She knew that Nalan Ko might be a kind woman but even she has her own thoughts. Actually, Mikey didn't mind. She can have a kind supporter in this world and help their family survive in rough times. After all, having a healer as a family member is not as bad. And surviving is most important. She id that with such a mean mother in past, it should not be so bad with someone as kind as miss Nalan Ko. Right?
Nalan Ko could feel her complicated feelings but she didn't say anything. She just let them all become friendly. Later, much later Mikey will understand that Nalan Ko really meant what she said.
''Na'an, take big sister to the city and let her check the powers. If she has tracking powers she can go to quest guild and sign in. Mom needs to go with your sisters and gather more braches. Our house needs one more bed for our new family member.'' She smiled and pushed Na'an towards Mikey.
Na'an stood in front Mikey and smiled brightly. ''Big sister. Let's go to town. There must be a long line of people checking their powers.''
Mikey nodded and turned her head towards Nalan Ko. ''Can I leave my bag here and can I maybe get one of your attires. I do not think it would be normal for me to walk in my suit here.''
Nalan Ko nodded but was stunned to see that she didn't take the suit off. ''Why are you leaving it on?''
Mikey smiled and got closer. ''This suit is specially made. It is waterproof, it keeps the body warm in cold and cool in the heat. And normal weapons can't penetrate it.''
Nalan Ko touched the fabric and thought about it. ''This is a low-level protection suit. If you are tracker, later by yourself better on making this one better quality.''
Mikey was stunned by her calmness. Such a suit on Earth was worth quite a lot of money, here was the lowest protection. How is this even possible. But if she can make it even better, why not. ''How much would it cost me?''
Nalan Ko looked at her and smiled. ''Don't worry. As you are a beginner they won't give you hard tasks. So you do not need better gear. Later on, when you earn enough money you can look for something suitable. Go now, or you will be late to sign in for testing. Only once in moth they do testing so you are quite lucky. Go, go...''
She pushed them out with a smile and watched as they went away. The daughters stood and held her hand. ''Mother, will she able to handle the old man's irony?''
Nalan Ko chuckled. ''Wait and see, your sister is not easily scared as other people.''
The younger daughter nodded. ''Of course. she appeared out nowhere, climbed on the rainbow tree, walked through the hallowed forest as nothing and now going to the city as it was her backyard. The old man should not be a very big problem for her.''
The old man was suddenly feeling itchy around the nose and sneezed loudly making everyone stunned. Such a strong cultivator to sneeze? Is there even sickness that can befall cultivator. One of his helpers became pale and jumped to look closer but was pushed back with a wave of power. ''Idiot. I think someone is talking about me, a lot. Those old geezers probably are having their fun alone, without me. And I have to stand there and see all these people. Sigh.''
Actually, his job was not really tiring. His disciples did most of the work. The Stone of Trials did the biggest part. To check people's ability, the stone even spoke itself. His job was literally to just stand there and care that there is no trouble in the long line of people. From time to time there will be always bothersome people. Too bad, there is only one Stone of Trials in the world. On this continent this is one of three towns that is given Chance of Trial, So not everyone knew do they have powers or not. If they do they have to get officially their powers open by one of the cultivators.
But all his disciples are cultivators so he didn't have to even move one little finger. Just sit there and look imposing. But that would be too boring. So he found it quite entertaining to make fun of those that came. No matter do they have powers or not.
Looking at a long line of people he smiled. Today he will try to enjoy it as well. The first in line was the whole family of people that look rather... well fed. His eyes narrowed as they approached the Stone of Trials. ''If you people have powers, what will you use it for? You can't eat it. If you become cultivators you won't need to eat ever again. can you give up all that nice food for cultivation?''
His words stunned the family. On their face could be seen as a clear unwillingness. Looking now at the stone they were not sure should they start or not, but hearing loud clamor they had to.
Father came close and touched the stone that just shone for a moment and announced. ''Not able!'' His face became instantly happy making the old man shake his head in disbelief. One after another his whole family came to and got the same result. In the end, they happily left after they knew that they are free of such a worrisome thing. Not eat, no need to be cultivators, food is more important!
Next was an elegant young man with two daughters. None of them passed as well and with a sigh, he left as well. After that as well family with seven children and a baby. After the whole family checked their ability the only baby was found to be a fire element. They cheered and started kissing while the old man shook his head. I can't even bother with them. They seem truly happy. Somewhere in mid of line between all those people stood young woman with piercing blue eyes, shiny blond hair and pretty smile while holding a young boy with her hand. They seem to be quite a happy chatting but as they were far he couldn't hear what they said so he was very intrigued.
People like her do exist on their continent quite a lot but her won presence was strange. Somehow she was indeed different. But why? Looking at all those people before he got annoyed so his face back gloomy making everyone in line becoming silent. But only those two were talking to each other and his eyes eagerly looked at slowly approaching pair. Suddenly he got confused... what, why is that boy calling that girl sister? They do not even look alike? What is actually going on?
