Bernard seemed barely able to speak. He adjusted his breathing again.
"You consider yourself a perfect businessman, a person living in the 'capitalist world.' Your belief tells you that capitalism has destroyed many sacred things. You only need to establish company protocols... use the power of technology to uphold these protocols... you don't need to establish bonds with your subordinates beyond 'work relationships'..."
Bernard paused briefly, then continued, "You just need to pay them fairly, and that's enough."
Xiang Shan had his hands in his pockets, "That's right."
"So, you are indeed different from that emperor," Bernard said with a slight smile at the corner of his mouth.
Xiang Shan said nothing.
