I whined and cussed inward the entire time I was getting ready for my classes. I chose to wear a knee-length black dress with a V-neck and black wedges. I brushed my jet-black wavey hair into a lower bun. My hair wasn't long, but it was right under my shoulders this way it's easy enough for me to handle. Applying light foundation and heavy red eyeshadow to my face makes my skin look clean and my eyes look sharp, which I love.
I'm Rachel Wells, a 3rd year at Hostra University studying history, specifically medieval times history. Ever since I could read and write I've been *fascinated* by the wonders of the Royals and comners. They weren't just snobs with gold spoons that wore fancy expensive clothing- Well that's partially true. They still had a lot of rules and habits that I found either stupid or appealing.
Trampling down the stairs, I pulled on my Black Lace jacket and carried my leather cross shoulder bag. I have 1 older brother and younger twin siblings boy and girl. I can't really say I'm living the rich life, but my family has never struggled before, we always had food on the table, and our Dad mostly worked at home on books or articles. Plus, If I wanted something, in due time I'd get it.
As I entered the kitchen I heard a loud noise.
"Ow! What gives?!"
"Wash them properly young lady."
It was my little sister Geinger (Ginger) and my Dad. They were at the sink washing dishes together, Dad's dishes were shimmering clean but Geinger's on the other hand...Still needed a lot of work.
"How can you treat your child like this" Geinger hollered. "It's abuse, abuse I'm telling you!"
"Shut your trap and scrub harder!" Walter nagged at her. Walter was my younger brother, a nitwit since birth.
"Walter less talking more eating". Dad said waving the soapy spatula in his face while shooting him a glare. He groaned and Geinger snickered at him. I chuckled as I placed my hand on his shoulder and sat next to him by the kitchen island.
"Good morning guys, What's for breakfast?"
"Good morning," they said. "I made egg, waffles, bacon, and toast. Make yourself a plate." My dad said still scouring the dishes in a hurry. "Thanks, Dad. " I started to get up but then I saw Marcus sit next to me around the island with two plates, placing one in front of me and him. "Well thanks Marcus, didn't know you had goodwill in ya."
Marcus looked at me confused as he pulled over the second plate staring at me hesitantly. "I think you got the wrong idea, Sis, Both of them are mine." I felt a Bug-eyed look creep over my face as my unbelievable brother started to smack down his breakfast plates with a completely blank face. I got up again and started sharing my own plate, NOT TWO. "You bilious little bastard." I sent him a killer glare hoping it leaves a hot spot in his head. I sat down and started to eat trying to hurry out of the house.
After a while, Dad looked at me with a studied look in his eyes as he dried his hands with a small cloth. I finished eating and started to look up slowly as I felt his gaze. By the time I knew it everyone was already out of the house and on their way to school, I'm guessing Marcus drove them.
My Dad fixed the cloth on the side of the counter then he walked around the island and sat next to me. "Rachel," He said in a calm voice. "I hope you're not going back to That place today". At this point, he sounded concerned and demanding but I didn't bother. I leaned back as I slowly turned my gaze to him. My Dad had short curly hair with light hazel eyes, his skin was dark chocolate and his facial features made him look masculine but beautiful even with the eye bags.
"Dad..." I knew he was right but I didn't want to hear it for the 100th time. I'm sure you don't know so let's talk about what he means when he says "that place". Two weeks ago I was driving my friends home, after they were all home, it seems my dad caught me entering a Gentlemen's club. Every other night I'd sleep out and head to a special place with a gentleman from the club. But Dad wanted me to stop this habit since It wasn't, "healthy" and unbecoming of a young lady.
He took my left hand which was empty and held it tight. "Just tell me you won't, tell me you'll only stay by a girlfriend's house." he pleaded. "You know.. You know your mother wouldn't have wanted this for you.". I jumped up and snatched my hand from my fathers, "Are you serious right now?" I said with a hurt and crushed tone.
My mother was the kindest and had the most beautiful personality in the world. She never spoke over me, she always smitten me, never judged me, and always, always had time for me even though it was 4 of us. She was a God fearing women and often prayed over our home. Still, she died last year with stage 3 lung cancer that couldn't be treated.
"Raych.." My dad said in a sad tone. At this point, I picked up my bag and fixed my dress as I walked away from him. "No, No, NO.," I said as my voice cracked. "Don't you DARE, use her against me" I pointed at him as I tried to unlock the door. "Rachel stop your childish behavior! I'm your father and you will listen to me! What will your friends say, Hm?!" He stood at the stairs by the front door with his hands crossed. "I don't want to hear it!!" I tried to hide the tightening in my voice since I was starting to cry.
All of a sudden the door open and I bumped into Marcus's chest. He was staring down at me confused and then later looked up at dad. I pushed him out of my way and headed to the garage where my car was. I used my fingertips to clean my eyes not wanting to mess up my makeup. " How dare you.. asshole move Dad.." I said as I sniffed and swallowed hard.
Getting in the car I throw my bag in the passenger seat. I took a deep breath and stared out the window. Yes, my dad was right, No, I didn't want to admit it. I started driving to class and turned up the music, It made me feel hyper and pleasant. My favorite song came up and... Oh, how It warmed my heart...
Straightening my shoulders I turned the volume up to the max., "Her day starts with a coffee.. and ends with a wine. Takes forever getting ready, so she's never on time for,- anything...." My chest flutter as I imagined the times my mom and I sang this song. "Beautiful... crazy... she can't help but amaze me.. ~". Before I knew it the music started to.. To suck me in and time seemed to slow down around me..
HHHHHAAAANNKKKK!
I Shot my eyes open and it was like the world around me was going slower times 2. I looked to my right and found a bright light staring back at me, two large ones actually and they were getting closer and closer. My body stiffened and my eyes widened, this was it, I'm screwed. Shutting my eyes tight I couldn't help but apologize to my family, especially my dad... "I'm sorry guys. I'm sorry.. Mom.. Marcus. "
Just like that, I felt broken glass in my side and my left leg was so numb to the point were I couldn't feel it. I wasn't sure if I broke my neck or my throat was cut open, but every time I took a breath my lungs just kept filling up. "Uughh!" A sharp scream and grunt of pain left my lips and my eyes went blurry .
"Hello? Can you hear me sweetheart?? It's okay we're calling the ambulance, hold on okay." A lady who looks like she was in her mid 30s kneeled over me with a very worried and panicked look. "Is she okay honey??" A man with a strong country voice spoke behind her. "I don't know she won't respond!! I need my phone!" She ran to the truck and the man who seems to be her husband was the one kneeling over me now.
I tried to keep my eyes open, but I couldn't, it was.. too much.. so much pain.. "Ma'am stay with me open your eyes!" he said in a panic tone. Ma'am? What am I, 40? That little fucker. First, he hits me with his truck now he's calling me old. Before I could even give him a piece of my mind my breathing stopped. My whole body shut down.
