Sicong blinked hard, the tears still clinging to his lashes. He felt his eyes were playing a trick on him.
Then, all at once, he rushed forward and pulled Fu Jian into a tight, desperate hug.
"You idiot," Sicong choked out, his voice thick. "You're supposed to stay safe."
Fu Jian's arms slowly came up to wrap around him.
"I tried." His voice was small. "I really did."
They stood there in the rain, holding on to each other as if letting go would tear the world apart.
After a while, Fu Jian pulled away from Yu Sicong and said,
"Let go. Are you planning to stay in the rain for the next 24 hours? I am tired af."
Yu Sicong chuckled as he picked up Fu Jian, who yelped in surprise and patted Yu Sicong's chest,
