The girl was sitting down on the porch of her house. She was there for God knows how long, just staring blankly into space. She felt the heat of the morning sun fade into the coolness of the night. She spent a few weeks like this, no one knew the reason why she was so despondent. "What's wrong with her?" her mom asked her husband. Her father just shrugged, "she's been like this for too long, I'm worried" But the girl wouldn't react, she just stared blankly at the same spot, sitting on the rocking chair on the wooden porch of her house. One night while her mom was draping a blanket over her, the girl blinked. Shocked, her mom stumbled backwards and fell. The girl took a gulp of air, like she hadn't done in a long time and looked around. Her mom saw that her daughter came to; got up and cradled the daughter in a tight but loving hold. So afraid that she might be dreaming, she had to pinch her daughter's cheek. "Oh thank heaven, you're back" she said, full of tears and holding back a choke. The girl's father came outside after hearing the commotion and when he saw what was happening he held both the women that he loved in a strong embrace.
The daughter looked around, "where am I?" she asked her parents. "You're home" answered her father with a smile. "Home?" she asked, not really understanding the meaning. "Yes, honey, you're safe". Her mother got up and wiped the tears off her face, and held her hand for her daughter to take. The daughter, unsure looked at the man standing next to the woman, he reassured her with a Nod "go ahead" he said, so she did. For some reason she trusted them. So she stood up for the first time in a long time. Her legs were frail, and hurt at first. The tingling sensation that she was getting due to the new circulation on her lower extremities felt uncomfortable. "Why am I able to walk?" the girl asked. Both parents looked at each other and smiled. "Because you're finally Home" the mother said. Confused but at the same time satisfied with that answer the girl walked towards the inside of the house. Like her mother said, she felt safe, but at the same time something was missing. A memory of something important, sadly, every time she tried to remember her head would hurt.
Life continued as normal, she would get up, have breakfast and help around the house. Everything seemed so familiar, like a distant memory coming back to her. Her mother's smile, her dad's rough hands holding hers while praying at the table before a meal. The song that the birds would sing, and the creaking of the floor boards. This is her life and everything was perfect. Until she would try and remember something important, then bright flashes would start to make her head fuzzy, and uncomfortable. The girl knew that there was something missing in her life, but she didn't know what or who it was. What was that important detail? she kept asking herself, but one look at her mother, and every worry went away. Where was everyone else? It was only her and her parents. But those details really didn't matter.
One day, she walked to the pond to get some water, and she saw her reflection on the water. She looked like herself but instead of a young girl an old woman stared back, smiling. Then suddenly everything came back flooding and finally it made sense. With a content smile she went back to her parents house, and lived her eternity how it was meant to be. Elysium.
