Everyone was seated around the table, with Kelan sitting at the shorter end of the rectangular dining table, his chair slightly larger than the others.
"What is it with this chair?" Kelan asked, shifting slightly, feeling the strange discomfort.
"It was mom's idea," Jayden replied.
"Enough talk, let's eat," Jojo said, standing up from her seat. She walked toward Jake, and among the stacked plates, she pulled out one and began to serve him.
First, she scooped some rice onto the plate, then opened a fancy pot and added a serving of what appeared to be strange purple vegetables laced with tiny, juicy bugs.
"What's that?" Kelan asked curiously.
"That's an elven dish. Try it, honey. It tastes quite great," Jojo said with a giggle, taking another plate—this time, a round ceramic bowl. She opened yet another of the ornate pots and ladled out hot broth packed with chunks of meat. Then, she carefully placed the dishes in front of Kelan.
