~Selena's POV~
The plane ride was quiet but not peaceful.
Jennifer sat across from me in the private jet, cleaning her silencer. Her eyes were sharp and unfazed, as if she were getting ready for a spa day instead of a kill. That's who she'd become. That's what this life does; it strips away the softness. Leaves only the core: loyalty or betrayal.
And betrayal never lives long in my world.
"We'll be landing in fifteen," my pilot's voice crackled over the intercom.
I turned to Jennifer. "You sure you want to do this personally?"
She glanced up, cool and unbothered. "They snitched. That's enough for me."
I smiled faintly. "You've changed."
She raised a brow, lips tugging into a grin. "No. I've just adapted."
We landed outside an abandoned motel in the outskirts of Eldridge, a border town crawling with low-level gang activity. The two men, Cruz and Marino, had been my father's runners back in the day. I'd kept them on for loyalty. Now I realized loyalty was only skin-deep.
