Chapter 547 - My fault

Mero coughed, he weakly opened his eyes to see Nora carrying him with all her strength and might.

But at the same time, he could see the hurt, the pain, the anger in her eyes. Mero mustered up the remainder of his strength and turned around. It was Liam's silhouette followed by the faint blurry vision of Wura that was the last image in his eyes.

Nora noticed Mero going limp, suddenly, he became heavier than ever. She fell to the ground and groaned. She tried to wake him up, she called his name, tapped his cheeks, but he seemed to have fainted.

She could not carry him any longer, no, she could not. She screamed and cried for help, she needed help or else Mero would die here.

She screamed for help as loud as she could, and to her favour the physician and his helpers came rushing out of the tent they had been hiding in.

Quickly they hurried and carried Mero into the tent. Nora just remained there, her knees on the ground. She felt so stupid, so terrible, so heartbroken. It felt like the day Mero ended their relationship all over again.

However, this time was worse, too worse, she felt betrayed by the one person in the world she thought could never betray her. The woman she trusted so much with her life. The one person she considered her sister and yet that same woman stabbed her in the bad.

Nora cried bitterly. She held her chest and clutched her heart. This was just too much for her to bear, too much for her to bear. She felt as if her heart had been ripped out of her chest and it felt so terrible, so unbearable. She did not wish to live anymore, that was how she felt.

...

Wura had finally hugged Liam after so long. She was finally in his arms after such a long time and she had even forgotten that they were in the middle of a battle right now, she did not care, having him here was more than enough for her right now.

But seeing how things always went in her life. She should have known that this happy moment would be short-lived and short-lived it was. She could not even have a moment of peace or a moment of true happiness when she made a mistake, a grave mistake that cost her a moment that was supposed to be the epitome of happiness in her entire life.

Wura rushed after Liam, she had to explain everything to him, she needed him to calm down and listen to her, although she knew that was not possible considering the circumstances of war that surrounded them.

"Liam, Liam." Wura rushed after him, she ran after him, she knew he was avoiding her, he did not even stop, he just continued walking on with swift steps.

"I missed you Wura, and I am so sorry, so very sorry." Those were the words Liam wished to say to her. Those were the words he wanted to use to apologize to her. He wanted to hold her in his arms as she cried.

He wanted to hold her as her mind was filled with a host of questions, questions that she wished to ask but would not because of the overwhelmed emotions of joy, happiness and laughter.

Those were all the things he wished to do with her, but no, he would not allow himself be ridiculed, he would not allow himself to be subjected to such humiliation. This was too much, too much for him.

He wanted to scream, he wanted to shout, he wanted to cry, but he needed to keep his calm. There were much more important things to focus on other than this personal problem. But Wura's continuing chasing of him was make it harder for him to think and keep himself calm.

Wura knew that Liam was hurting, he was hurting so much right now and she could not blame him. She was hurting as well, but he was hurting more. She knew that if she spoke to him and calmed him down, they would be able to speak properly.

"This is my fault, my fault." Wura said to herself, she felt out of breath running after him and Liam did not show any signs of stopping for her. She cried, tears fell down her eyes. If only she had not kissed Mero, if only she had known that he was on his way, she would have waited, she would have been stronger.

She had missed him so much. Feeling him hold her, hug her, squeeze her, and kiss her. And now all her hopes and dreams had come crashing down in a moment, in an instant. It had all come crashing down.

She wanted to scream on the top of her lungs that she missed him, that she loved him that she wanted him to forgive her for everything that she wanted him to forget everything except the both of them.

Wura and Liam heard the sound of another explosion that startled Wura causing Liam to rush off even quicker, he had to end all of this before more destruction ensued.

"The East are setting up more fires." Liam said to himself, she ran, he needed to get all the fires under control. They were in a middle of a huge mess right now.

Wura gasped and looked around, the smell of smoke and the sight of bright, burning fires caused her to fear. This was too much, just too much, the East were setting off more fires. How they did it, she did not know.

"Elihu, Zuph and Luc went to the mainland to stop the East's attack's over there, they are clearly outnumbered, what if something bad happened to them?" asked Wura to herself. They had not returned yet, she was worried, so worried.

Liam was certain that Elihu, Zuph and Luc would be here soon. He had commanded the troops he had brought with him to aid them in making sure they did not reach the capital. He was sure that they were successful and were on their way. They needed more troops here.

Liam could not help himself, his mind went straight to Mero. His most trusted friend, the most loyal man he thought him to be, and yet, that same man whom he trusted with his own life had been with his wife.

The mere thought just made him so upset, he wished to scream, to shout and punch him.

Liam could hear the sound of horses nearby and something told him that they were not horses from their troops.

Liam saw some of his knights coming towards him with their horses and he raised his hand to signal them to stop as they did. He sighed in relief seeing them. He had been worried that the horses were rode by Eastern soldiers.

"Liam! Liam!" Wura called out to him as Liam finally stopped running, he stood in front of the troops that had just arrived giving Wura a glimmer of hope to catch up to him.

She was out of breath as soon as she stopped in front of him.

"Liam, Liam, please, we need to talk." She said breathlessly. Liam turned to look at her and words could not explain what he felt towards her in that moment.

"Not now Wura, not now." He simply said as he focused on the troops, he gave them orders.

Wura felt her heart sink, hearing him be so cold, speaking to strangely to her, it hurt her so much, so very much.

Finally, he turned to her and asked, "Where is Mero's tent?"

Wura who had thought he wished to speak to her felt her hope squashed when he had asked her that. She understood him, she knew he needed to lead his troops and make sure there were no more deaths and no more pain or war. She knew she needed to support him even though they were not on the best terms right now.

"Over there" pointed Wura in the distance as Liam walked there and she followed after him.

"What do you know about the East?" asked Liam as he entered into Mero's tent. Instantly he turned to her and made his intention clear. He was not here to discuss their matters, he was here to do what mattered most which was ending this war.

"The East's leader is a young man name Olamide, he claims he started this war because Wyverdale stole their land, which is not true" said Wura went straight to the point, she knew he needed to know everything and she would tell him everything.

"I tried to make peace by offering him some land by the border, only for him to show his true colours, he is greedy and wants everything, I tried my best but… it did not work…" Wura sighed, she was disappointed in herself.
