Chapter 4 - Chapter 3: Do You Believe I'll Bite You to Death?

Just as her claws were about to touch his face, there was a muffled noise behind her, and a masked man in black suddenly broke through the window, holding a gleaming curved blade.

The man in black was visibly stunned upon seeing the disheveled Yun Ran in white, but quickly confirmed she was just a person.

Yun Ran also turned to look at the man in black, blinking her eyes:

[Is this guy here to take Nangong Mo's dog life?!]

[Heaven! Is she about to inherit all his fortune so soon?]

Nangong Mo's gaze slid from the woman's picturesque profile to her slender white neck, his eyes narrowing almost imperceptibly.

Yun Ran suddenly felt a little cold, instinctively shrinking her neck, and leaned slightly towards Nangong Mo's ear to whisper:

"Beauty, someone is here to kill you! Scared? Or would you like to sing me a little song, and I'll be the hero saving the beauty, how about that?"

Her answer was a cold laugh, arrogant and cocky.

"Song? To chant your soul to rest?"

Yun Ran: "…Do you believe I'll bite you to death?"

"Ha! You can try."

"..."

The man in black's eyes darted between Yun Ran and Nangong Mo, and given their suggestive position at the moment, he seemed to understand something, and couldn't help but laugh coldly:

"I never thought King Qin was so playful! Ha! What an unconventional wedding night! Since you enjoy this, I'll kindly send you both down to become a true ghost couple!"

"Brother, you're mistaken! I'm not familiar with him, just kill him, and be careful not to wrongly harm the innocent, or in the next life, you'll reincarnate as a pig, which is miserable."

"Here, kill him, please, I'll step aside and give you room."

Yun Ran swiftly got up, being considerate enough to take the wooden bucket by the bed, as if to prevent it from getting in the way of the man in black committing murder.

The man in black: "..."

The man in black raised his knife but didn't move, frowning as he stared intently at Yun Ran, his eyes glinting with malice, lost in thought.

"What are you waiting for? Hurry up, if his guards arrive, you won't be able to kill him."

Upon hearing this, the man in black's eyes shifted, and he immediately charged towards Nangong Mo with his knife.

"King Qin, this day next year will be your memorial day!"

Tonight, seven of them came, all fell, except for him making it to the inner hall, he couldn't miss this opportunity! Nangong Mo must die!

As for that peculiar woman, he would conveniently deal with her after killing Nangong Mo.

Confident, the man in black raised his curved blade high in both hands, the icy blade aimed directly at Nangong Mo.

Yet as he brushed past Yun Ran, he stumbled, his body pitched towards the ground.

The man in black's eyes flashed fiercely, damn! That woman ambushed him!

While striving to steady himself, he swung a backward strike, intending to resolve Yun Ran first.

However, Yun Ran's quick eye and deft hand beat him to it, and with a solid 'clunk,' the wooden bucket in her hand struck the back of the man in black's head, making his eyes roll back.

"Sneaky... villain!"

The man in black, furious, again lifted his knife to chop Yun Ran.

Two silver needles whizzed through the air, piercing into the webbing of his hands with ghostly speed.

The man in black felt a numbness in his hands, his curved blade falling to the ground. Simultaneously, his head echoed with two more 'clang' sounds as it was struck again by the wooden bucket.

The man in black fell unconscious, his eyes rolling back unwillingly, refusing to close.

So, Yun Ran hit his head with the bucket two more times for good measure.

Not far away, Nangong Mo leaned lazily against the bedhead, his eyes fixed playfully on the petite woman who struck the man unconscious with a lift and drop of the bucket.

The movements flowed fluidly, her strikes extraordinarily practiced, clearly indicating she often did this.

Yun Ran glanced at the unconscious man in black, discarded the wooden bucket, then kicked him a couple of times, making sure his face was firmly planted on the ground.

Only then did she leisurely turn to look at Nangong Mo, her lips curled into a smile, dazzling yet chilly.

"Beauty, it's your turn. Do you prefer it steamed? Braised? Boiled? Or deep-fried? Smoked? Poached?"

"Ha..."

The man's sexy thin lips curled into a cold, captivating arc.

"How about I dig a hole and bury you right here alive, my Princess?"

Yun Ran: "???"

Exposed?!

No way?!

Just then, the hall door was pushed open, a series of hurried footsteps approached, and in the blink of an eye, a team of guards poured into the hall,

Clad in black uniforms, swords at their waists, they stood tall, impressive and mighty. Clearly, they were well-trained practitioners.

At this moment, all the handsome guards turned their gazes towards Yun Ran, their expressions somewhat peculiar...

Yun Ran looked down at her white coat, then glanced at the man in black at her feet and the curved blade on the ground...

"Ahem! Uh, I'm not with him!"

The young, tall guards peered at her, saying nothing, seemingly contemplating the truth of her words.

Yun Ran: Do I look like a liar?!

"I'm really not an assassin, in fact, I saved your Prince over there!"

Yun Ran gestured to the discarded wooden bucket, then pointed at the man in black's prominently swollen nape.

See, I did that, I'm really not with him.

"Even if you are not an assassin's accomplice, sneaking into the Prince's room at night dressed like this, what is your intention?"

Finally, a guard voiced the question everyone's mind was grappling with.

[Of course, to scare him! Could it really be to pluck flowers?!]

Yun Ran silently rolled her eyes in her mind and pointed to the bright moon outside the window.

"I observed the celestial phenomena tonight and calculated that your Prince was in danger, so I specifically rushed here to save him. Do you believe me if I say that?"

Nangong Mo glanced at her sideways, smirking with a cold smile.

This damned woman is full of lies! Not a single word of truth!

The guards: Although she seemed to have indeed saved their Prince, deliberately coming to save him? That doesn't seem to be the case, does it?

"Since you came to save him, why dress like that?"

Yun Ran shook the sleeves that reached the ground, her smile as radiant as a spring breeze.

"Well, this is called fighting evil with evil, driving away demons."

The guards: "..."

Just then, the unconscious man in black on the ground suddenly opened his eyes, a fierce light flashing through them.

A sleeve arrow shot out from his sleeve, heading straight for Nangong Mo on the bed with the speed of the wind.

"My lord!"

Everyone exclaimed, leaping forward.

However, Yun Ran, being the closest to Nangong Mo, moved the fastest, rushing to the bed before the dark arrow could, hugging Nangong Mo and shielding him.

This scene unfolded in a mere blink of an eye, not only stunning the guards but causing even Nangong Mo to be slightly taken aback.

He looked down at the woman who had thrown herself into his arms, his eyes flickering with light, his expression subtly shifting.

However, the most shocked, bewildered, and puzzled person at this moment was Yun Ran herself.

"???"

"!!!"

What happened?!

Why did a flash of white light suddenly appear in her mind, causing her body to fly over and block the arrow on its own accord?!

Block an arrow??

What a joke! Is this something she could actually do?!
