Chapter 23 - CHAPTER 23

Being at work distracted me a bit, but there's this heavy weight on my chest. The curiosity pushing at my conscience, the anxiety feeding off my curiosity, deep down within, I want to know who they are and why they left me, but I'm convinced I'm satisfied with my life now, so I don't need to dig deep.

"A penny for your thoughts" a familiar voice said making me look at the door to my small office.

"Leo" I said and looked at him apologetically.

"What's wrong?" he asked.

"Can we go on our date now?" I asked instead of replying and he raised an eyebrow.

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, I am" I said, standing up from my seat and crossing the space between us to put my arms around him, he seems surprised but hugged me back. I breathe out relishing in the peace this moment is bringing me. It's been so loud in my head since my parents broke the news to me but right now, everything is silent, as silent as a graveyard will be at night.

"Are you fine?" he asked.

"'You know, sometimes you have to unplug yourself from the world for a moment, so you can reset yourself" I said, and he looked at me confused.

"What?" he asked confused.

"I meant, I want to go on this date so I can distract myself from the war raging in my head right now, I don't want to deal with it right now" I explained, and he nodded.

"Do you have a place in mind?"

"Nah, I'm all yours for the day" I said, and he smirked.

OH, he smirked

Is it weird that I got goosebumps from that?

I picked up my bag and we headed straight out of the diner, as I waved at Ray and signaled to him, I'll be out for a while.

"So where are we going?" I asked as he opened the passenger's door for me.

"Trust the process my lady" he said and went round the car to get into his side of the car. He entered the car, and his hand went straight for mine as soon as we were on the road, I watched him in fascination as if this is the first time I'm watching him drive. Well, as his woman, this is my first time watching him drive. I love the giddy feeling in my heart right now. I don't want it to stop, I ignored the traitorous thought telling me that nothing lasts forever, I don't need that now.

"Leo" I called, and he hummed.

"Are you sure, you're ready to do this with me?"

"I don't go for what I am not sure about, I like you very much and at this moment, I want nothing more than spending every moment with you" he answered, and I smiled biting my upper lips to stop my eyes from getting teary. It's almost like he knew I wanted assurance, and he gave me that rather than just simply saying yes.

"Thank you" I said, and he just pecked the back of my hands with his soft lips.

He parked in front of a boutique, and I looked at him confused.

"First on the list is a shopping date" he said, getting down to open the door for me.

"Is that even a thing, or you're just looking for an excuse to see me play dress up" I joked.

"Is that a crime?"

"Not at all" I said.

"Good! Because if it is, I'll spend a very long time in jail" he said, and I laughed.

We walked in and from the ambience of the dress store, I knew we walked into money.

"You know when I mentioned date, I meant something fun not dress up" I said.

"Dress up is fun" he said as one of the store attendants approached us.

"Since when do men like dress up?" I asked and he smirked, again.

"Welcome to Del' Rosa, please come this way" the attendant said and led us to another part of the store where different attendees were standing beside rows of dresses and then a single lounge chair was there with a bottle of champagne and two glasses.

We sat down and I was just looking around amazed. It's not like I've not been to fancy stores, but this is a whole different type of fancy.

"So where do you want to start?" Leo's voice jolted me out of the beauty of the dress filled room.

"I've got no idea on where you are taking me, so I have no idea" I replied, and he hummed.

Then he was looking round until he stopped on a midlength Navy-blue dress which would reach just a bit above my thighs.

"Why don't we try this?" he asked picking it out and placed it on my shoulder while helping me to the dressing room and he closed the door as soon as I was inside.

I took a deep breath as I stared at myself in the full-length mirror, I look tired, well, I am tired.

I carefully laid the dress out on the chair as I stepped out of my brown short dress, there isn't a price tag on the dress, but I am sure I don't want to know what the price is.

I put the dress on, but it isn't easy drawing up the zip from the waist upward. I opened the door slightly so I can call for help but all I saw was Leo's back towards me and a lady facing him. I don't know her from work, so she must be in his personal life. Come to think of it, I don't know much about him outside work and some few personal stuffs I did for him when I was his personal assistant.

It felt like they were talking about something heated, I can't see Leo's facial expression but from hers I can tell.

She's very pretty, caramel skin, her makeup was light and proper, and hair packed to perfection, looking at her made me feel insecure with my tired face. I know I don't look bad, but she is soft and ooze feminine energy. She has an engagement ring on her ring finger though, so I guess I have nothing to be worried about.

While I was assessing her, I missed her eyes on me, and by the time I brought my eyes back up, she was looking at me with a narrowed eye, a very calculating and judgy narrowed eye.

"Are you cheating on me King?" she asked without taking her eyes off me.
