Y/n
I woke up feeling much better and noticed it was already afternoon. After freshening up, I went to look for Emma. I found her sitting on the couch, smiling at her phone. I walked over and sat beside her.
"So, ready for the engagement?" I asked with a soft smile.
She looked at me and instantly hugged me tightly, her warmth comforting.
Emma: "Are you okay now?"
I nodded. "Yeah, I'm good."
Emma: "Good! I'm ready too. Oh, and my parents are coming tonight! We get to meet them!"
"Really?" I said, a bit surprised but excited.
Emma: "Yes! And guess what—they've already made all the engagement arrangements... on a yacht!"
My eyes widened. "Oh wow, that's amazing!"
Emma: "Right? And another thing—I told them about my pregnancy... Y/N, they were so happy. My mom even cried happy tears!"
I smiled, feeling my heart full. "I'm happy too. Everything feels so perfect right now."
We sat there for a while, chatting and laughing, feeling the joy of everything that was happening around us. Just then, the doorbell rang.
Emma: "It must be the pizza delivery guy."
I nodded as she got up and went to open the door.
Emma (calling out): "Oh well, Y/N, I think it's your visitor."
"What—?"
I stood up and saw Kayden standing there, a slight smile on his face.
Kayden: "Hey. What are you doing here instead of resting?"
I smiled softly. "I'm okay now."
He nodded, relieved.
Emma: "So, how's your Cassie doing?"
My heart skipped—oh no, I forgot to tell Emma.
Kayden: "Sorry…?"
I turned to Emma quickly. "Emma, it was all a misunderstanding."
Kayden: "Ah, about that… Yeah, she was scamming me. Playing me the whole time."
Emma raised her eyebrows, then nodded slowly.
Emma: "But still… you slept with her."
I glanced at Kayden. He looked down, clearly guilty.
"Emma, it's okay. It's his life, he c—"
Kayden (cutting in): "No. She's right. I made a big mistake. I'm really sorry."
Emma crossed her arms, but then pointed toward me.
Emma: "You know what? You don't deserve her."
Kayden looked genuinely shocked, hurt even.
But there was a strange warmth in the air—not of anger, but of protection. Emma wasn't mad just to be mad. She was standing up for me. And somehow, that made me smile a little.
Kayden: "Don't say that, please."
Emma: "Why? Because she was so innocent and you were just playing with her?"
I stepped toward Emma, trying to calm her down.
"What are you saying, Emma?"
Emma: "Y/N, he's playing with your feelings! And you... you're just standing there!"
She turned to Kayden, eyes fierce with protective fire.
Emma: "I'm not going to let her fall for you."
Kayden: "I don't even know what you're talking about."
Emma: "Cassie told me everything. And you know what? Y/N is my best friend. If you think you can hurt her and walk away, think again. You have to face the consequences."
Kayden: sighing deeply "Fine. Y/N, we'll talk later," he said, then turned and left, closing the door behind him.
There was a moment of silence.
I turned to Emma. "What was that, Emma?"
She looked at me, still breathing a little hard, but her expression softened.
Emma: "I just don't want you to get hurt again. Not by someone who doesn't value your heart."
I smiled slightly, touched by her concern despite the tension. "I know you're just trying to protect me. But let me handle it my way, okay?"
She hesitated, then nodded. "Okay. Just… promise me you'll be careful."
"I will. I promise."
We hugged tightly, and for a moment, the world outside didn't matter.
After that, we started discussing the engagement, and finally, our pizza arrived. We ate together, and in the evening, we began getting ready to meet her parents.
Emma smiled excitedly. "Ooh Y/N, I'm so happy you're going to meet them!"
I nodded and picked out a casual outfit—a long purple skirt and a white crop top. I wore my white sneakers and noticed how beautiful Emma looked in her pink dress.
"Let's go, Max is waiting for us," Emma said. I nodded again.
"Why are your parents meeting us at a restaurant?" I asked.
"Because they said we should spend some time together before the wedding," she explained.
We got into Max's car, and I took a seat in the back.
Max glanced at me from the front seat. "Sis, you'll have to stay alone for a week, I guess! And yeah let's find some roommate for you"
I gulped but gave a small nod. "I'm okay."
Emma turned to me, concern in her eyes.
"You can call James. He can stay in my room if you're uncomfortable alone. I mean until we find someone"
I sighed. "I'll ask him."
Max smirked. "Or should I ask Lucas—"
"No, no! James will be fine," I quickly interrupted.
Max raised an eyebrow. "You're still avoiding him. Did he trouble you, Y/N?"
I shook my head. "No, it's not that. Actually, if James agrees, it would be better. He's my best friend."
Max nodded slowly, accepting my answer.
A few moments later, we entered the restaurant and immediately spotted Emma's parents waiting at a table near the window. Emma beamed and ran to hug them tightly. Max followed, wrapping them both in a warm embrace.
Then, their eyes landed on me.
Emma beamed. "Mom, Dad! I missed you so much." She pulled them both into a tight hug, then turned to me with a big smile. "This is Y/N! Remember when you first met me and took me with you? She cried a lot that day."
They both laughed at the memory.
Emma's dad chuckled, "Oh, we remember. I even thought we should adopt her too."
Emma's mom nodded. "Yeah, but the lady at the orphanage said we could only choose one child."
I smiled softly at the memory.
They both stepped forward and hugged me warmly.
Emma's mom said, "But don't worry, you can still be our daughter."
I smiled again, touched by her words.
Max grinned. "No way, mother-in-law, she's already adopted as my sister."
Emma gasped dramatically. "Excuse me? She's my sister!"
We all laughed together, the atmosphere light and joyful.
Emma's dad raised his hands. "Okay, okay, enough now. Let's eat!"
We enjoyed the meal happily, the table filled with laughter and stories. Then, out of the corner of my eye, I spotted someone near the entrance.
"James…" I whispered softly.
He was talking to another man, wearing a sharp suit, looking serious but calm.
Emma followed my gaze. "Ooh, is that James? Let me call him!"
She stood up and made her way over. A moment later, James noticed me. His expression softened, and he smiled gently.
