Chapter 42 - vine, lightning

His brawny arm pulsed with a raw, untamed energy, a tempestuous force that crackled and hummed with electric discharge and static shock.

With a mighty flex, the wounded sky was torn asunder, the colossal lightning tribulation uprooted from the heavens like a gargantuan chain.

The mountain ranges quaked and trembled, as panic and horror gripped every heart, awed by the sheer magnitude of his monstrous strength.

The ice spirit man winced as the surge of electric power coursed through him, the lightning held tightly in his bare hands, like a colossal rope.

The air sizzled and sparked, his robes billowing and his face radiating a blinding white light.

With earth-shattering might, he swung the fibrous lightning at Xuan Yi, the chain-like lightning tearing through the air, bruising the very fabric of space.

Xuan Yi was forced to bend backwards, narrowly dodging the swing of the mighty tribulation lightning. The person wielding the lightning swung it with the same ferocity as his curved duo sabers, hacking through the air in massive, lightning-fast arcs.

In a short flurry of moves, Xuan Yi dodged, spun, and drifted around, while the ice spirit followed him with lethal frenzy. The world was left in a deafening rumble, their ears muted by the terrifying roar of the battle.

The lightning tribulation and the ice spirit man, a force of nature in their own right, clashed with a ferocity that left the very earth trembling beneath their feet.

The ice spirit's strength seemed to grow with his frustration, his attacks gaining more speed and destructive force with each passing moment.

He screamed again, and a new surge of power ran through his being. He swung the colossal lightning with newfound vigor, and space was torn asunder. Time appeared to slow down, and the colossal lightning traveled faster than the sound it left in its wake, a sound that echoed through the very fabric of the universe.

His chi burst outwards, a gravitation pressure filling the area. For the longsword disciples and Hai Du, a long distance away and under the gentle shield of a breeze, it felt as though the weight of a planet was crushing them, their frail strength unable to resist the pressure.

They were crushed into the deformed landscape with a force that nearly shattered every bone in their body.

Xuan Yi's face scrunched up, and he ground his teeth in an angry snarl. He then closed his eyes, calming himself as his chi poured out and flowed through his body. In the perfect Will of the Rattan Vines Light skill, he was one with nature, his very being in harmony with the universe.

How could the tribulation lightning hurt him? He raised his hands and held it too, the lightning crackling and sizzling as it met his unyielding force.

He tightened his grip on the lightning, and a jolt of energy surged through his body, causing the lightning to disintegrate and dissipate into the air.

He lunged forward and stretched out his hand, summoning a vine that materialized out of thin air.

The vine silently crackled with raw energy as he swung it.

But as the whip made contact with the ice spirit, a deafening explosion followed, and the man was sent hurtling through space, crashing into the escarpment left behind from the former mountain.

The impact was so great that the escarpment cracked, and a deep depression was formed. The ice spirit man struggled to remove himself from the rubble, his face glowing with an otherworldly light.

With a look of pure rage, he charged back at Xuan Yi, his duo daggers drawn and at the ready.

But Xuan Yi was ready for him. The tender vine whip seemed to defy space and time, arriving too soon for the ice spirit to react. With a mighty crack, the whip struck the ice spirit in the chest, causing the energy around him to explode in a shower of ice and snow.

The man crashed mightily to the ground, the glow in his face disappearing to reveal a grossly wounded and frail being beneath the mist and glow veneer.

The ice spirits were the wailing tribe people.

The ice spirit man realized he was no match for Xuan Yi, his heavily wounded body unable to keep up with the skilled fighter's lightning-fast movements. Xuan Yi turned his eyes towards his company, his gaze filled with a mix of concern and relief.

On the distant ground, his friends lay writhing in anguish and pain, broken and torn, but across their faces was written awe and gratitude.

He descended the lofty heights, and zoomed to their location. His eyes looked around, he couldn't find the sight he sought. He couldn't see Tian Wei.

Tian Wei lay beneath the rubble of the shattered mountain, he was mending himself under the weight of the mountain. Chi seeped through his skin as he tempered himself. It was only a matter of time, and he would advance in the next chapter of his cultivation.

But their victory had come at a steep price. They had formed many enemies, and they were no ordinary people. And to their collection of enemies, they had inadvertently added the wailing mountain people.

And if they thought they'd dealt with a monster, they couldn't be any more deluded.

Deep within the mountain ranges, the hidden tribe lived a life of seclusion, far removed from the chaos of the outside world. They cared little for the trivialities of the world beyond their borders, their focus solely on the secrets and mysteries of the mountain ranges.

They were slow people, rarely ever sending more than mere disciples to scare away those who dared to venture too close to their territory.

But make no mistake, if they ever chose to leave the shadows that hid them, they would rain down like a torrent of burning meteors, unleashing their legendary might on anyone foolish enough to cross their path.

As they sat in their council, observing the destruction wrought by the recent events, they realized that the world had forgotten their terror. The world had forgotten the power and might of their ancestry, and it was time to remind them of their place in the world. The world had forgotten their name and the fear that came with it. It was time to pay a visit to memory lane.
