"Beautifly… it really did it..."
Beautifly won the Flying Type event, and this outcome left many people dumbfounded. Before the event began, no one could have imagined that the final winner would actually be a Beautifly.
"Amazing." Kikka shook Chisana vigorously, eyes sparkling. "To think a Beautifly could be trained to be this powerful. As expected of a Top Coordinator! Chisana, I really admire your Brother Terrance now."
Then, Kikka asked in a whisper, "How was this Beautifly raised…"
"Six years. Beautifly has been with Brother Terrance for six years already," Chisana said slowly. To be willing to spend six years raising a single Beautifly—there probably isn't any Trainer who would do such a thing.
"Around six years, I think."
Numerous Top Coordinators and outstanding Trainers were also observing this Beautifly that had stood out from among thousands of Flying Type Pokémon, expressions of amazement appearing on their faces.
That final burst of flying maneuver in the last moment left them in a position where they could only look up in awe.
"What a shame. If it weren't for the racial limitations of Beautifly's species, this Terrance might've been able to reach the threshold of a Top Trainer with just Beautifly alone."
"I remember one of the challenge modes of the Fallarbor Gym includes a segment where they give away Beautifly's training method, doesn't it?" Raoul Contesta murmured to himself.
"After this battle, Terrance's identity being exposed may bring significant benefits to the development of Fallarbor Gym. As for the relationship between Pokémon Contest and Fallarbor Gym... In any case, let's hope he can continue his dazzling performance from the first event."
As the first event concluded, scenes of various kinds of techniques from the flying obstacle event were clipped together and repeatedly replayed.
Among the Pokémon that stood out and their Trainers, many received praise from the audience—but in this event, the ones who garnered the most attention were Beautifly and Terrance.
A newly appointed Gym Leader, a newly crowned Top Coordinator—from the status perspective, Terrance was in no way inferior to famous figures like Fantina. It's just that Terrance was still young, hadn't built up enough exposure, and was currently only mildly well-known within Hoenn—not yet widely recognized.
Terrance had prepared top-tier potions for Beautifly. When Beautifly returned to Terrance's side, Terrance smiled and went with it to claim their victory commemorative ribbon.
A ribbon shaped like a feather—the mark of winning the Flying Type event. Barring any surprises, a festival like this probably wouldn't be held again, so the one in Terrance's hands could be considered an ultra-rare, soon-to-be-discontinued commemorative item—representing the shared glory of him and Beautifly.
"Mr. Terrance, three new events have just been announced."
Assistant Sharan rushed over to Terrance's side, urgently informing him that three events would be held simultaneously, and asked how many he wanted to register for.
"Three events at the same time?" Terrance asked.
"Yes, Water Type, Fire Type, and Ground Type, respectively."
After finishing the Flying Type event, the Contest Committee announced the rules for the next three events.
"Water-type Surfing, Fire-type Shooting, and Ground-type Cross-Country Running…" Assistant Sharan quickly relayed the information she had obtained to Terrance, then handed him three event manuals.
"Fire Type, Shooting?" Terrance's attention immediately locked onto the key part—Fire Type, Shooting?
Muttering to himself over and over, Terrance opened the Fire Type event manual. The event content was just like the name suggested...
Terrance read through it several times, and the more he read, the more his head hurt. The event mainly assessed "flame range," "endurance," "accuracy," and "power and temperature." One could say it was yet another event leaning toward coordination.
But Terrance fell silent. He glanced at the Poké Ball of Arcanine on his belt. This event happened to hit right at Arcanine's weak point.
In terms of coordination, Arcanine wasn't bad—but its coordination lies in controlling the eruption of flames, not in controlling the release of flames...
Although there was some overlap, from Terrance's perspective, there was still a clear difference.
"Shooting, this event—why not give it to Water Types?" Terrance grumbled with some resentment.
"Huh?" Sharan tilted her head, not understanding what Terrance was mumbling about.
"Register me for the Fire Type event." Letting out a frustrated sigh, Terrance shook his head. Either way, he had to give it a try—since he brought Arcanine, he couldn't back out of it.
"You're not signing up for the Water and Ground-type events?" Sharan asked again.
"No." Terrance shook his head.
...
...
Not as many people signed up for the Water, Fire, and Ground Type events compared to the Flying Type one.
Within the designated time, once the registration count was finalized, the festival organizers used an intelligent online system to assign each person their event time and location.
The Fire Type Shooting event that Terrance registered for was, in essence, a test of how well one could control the shooting of flames.
There's still some time left. Up next was preparation for the Surfing event.
Before watching the Surfing event, Terrance went to the Pokémon Center to check on Beautifly's condition. At the moment, the Pokémon Center was packed. Nurse Joys from various regions had come to help, but it was still hard to handle the current crowds in Sootopolis City.
Because of his status as a Gym Leader—essentially a semi-government official—Terrance enjoyed certain privileges. At the very least, for treatments or check-ups at the Pokémon Center, he didn't have to wait in the long lines anymore.
"Which of the upcoming events are you participating in?"
After Terrance had finished his errands and started conducting some special last-minute training with Arcanine, Albus came over to find him.
"Fire," Terrance replied casually, which made Albus pause in surprise. "Arcanine?"
"What about it?"
"That… Arcanine?" Albus showed a puzzled expression.
"That's right." Terrance confirmed once again.
"Hahaha, no problem. I'm participating in the upcoming Surfing event. My Gyarados couldn't join the previous Flying Type event, but this time it'll have the chance to show off a bit."
Terrance was speechless and said, "If it's a Surfing event, then Wallace will definitely be participating, right?"
With someone like Wallace, a Water Type master, taking part in the event, how could anyone else have a shot? Terrance knew making a conclusion like that might be a bit rash, but Wallace… he was a name brand all on his own—it was hard for anyone to doubt his strength.
Surfing events… were harder than Flying Type events. After all, every Flying Type Pokémon could fly, but Surfing? Not every Water Type Pokémon was guaranteed to be proficient at it.
"Good chance to learn something too." This time, Albus didn't boast. He knew there was still a gap between himself and a Contest Master like Wallace.
"Oh right, for the Fighting Type event—your Lucario's going to enter, right?" Terrance asked.
"Fishing for info for your Gallade?" Albus shot back.
Terrance nodded. "Something like that."
Lucario was, without a doubt, a formidable opponent for Gallade.
