Sheng Shi instinctively chased after her.
Gu Lanshan, however, ran like a madwoman. She stomped straight down the stairs from the overpass, leaping towards the ground. Sheng Shi watched in horror, fearing she would miss a step and tumble down, until Gu Lanshan almost reached the ground and stumbled slightly. Terrified, Sheng Shi reached out and grabbed her arm, pulling her back into his arms.
Gu Lanshan raised her hand, trying to push Sheng Shi away again, but this time Sheng Shi held her tightly, so tight she struggled to breathe. Gradually, she stopped struggling and calmed down.
Only then did Sheng Shi slowly let her go. She slid to the ground, inch by inch, in his arms, cupped her face in her hands, and buried it in her knees. Her shoulders shook as she began to cry, and soon her sobbing turned into audible cries.
She crouched by the roadside, crying like a child, leaving Sheng Shi at a loss.
He recalled that she rarely cried.
