"What did you just say?" Emma River's face grew increasingly grim.
To her, the man standing before her didn't even seem capable of helping, yet here he was spewing bold nonsense, putting on an act just to humiliate her!
"Shut up!" Derek Leaf barked angrily.
"Hmph, Brother Leaf, it seems my goodwill isn't appreciated. In that case, I'll be on my way." When the words fell, Section Chief King stood up again, preparing to leave.
Derek Leaf immediately tried to persuade him to stay, but this time, the man seemed determined and responded coldly, "The matter you entrusted me with, Brother Leaf—I will do my utmost. However, as for the outcome, that's beyond my control."
Just as Derek Leaf was about to say something more, the man had already opened the room door: "Farewell. Don't bother seeing me out."
With a loud bang, the door slammed shut, leaving only Emma River and Derek Leaf in the room. In an instant, the room fell into silence.
