After spending the majority of his day and half of the night healing the injured Jonin, Kaida was finally ready to go home, when a Jonin caught his hand.
"Thank you, boy. You are Shisui's brother, right?" he asked.
"Yes, I am his younger brother. Also, there is no need for you to thank me. I am just doing my job as you guys have done yours," Kaida said with a smile.
"No. When my legs were crushed and then burned as well, I knew that my career as a ninja was over. I knew that I would lose the reward of all of the hard work I had done over the years to reach this stage, but you somehow saved me from that future.
I knew what you did was not normal. I have seen many of my comrades facing much worse results with lighter injuries than I had. Thank you for saving my life," the ninja said, bowing his head while sitting.
"There is no need. I know you guys have been on a mission with my brother, and since he is fine while you guys are injured, I think you guys saved him from injuries he may have suffered. This is my way to thank you for that," Kaida said with a genuine smile on his face.
"Though you are far from the truth, I appreciate the sentiment. But know this: I am indebted to you. If you ever need my help in the future, you can give me a call any time you want," the Jonin said.
"Then I will not shy away in the future," Kaida said.
"Hey, are you saying we are shameless fools who are not going to repay the favor? You can call me first, boy. I am also stronger than him," another Jonin said, ruffling Kaida's hair.
"Yeah, but you have the brain size of a walnut. Kaida, I think all of us are going to repeat the same thing, so I am saying it from everyone's side: We will all owe you one," the Jonin said.
All of the Jonin Kaida had healed were the ones who were most injured. Some had even lost any hope of continuing their ninja duty further, while others were sure they had to rest for months to get back to their previous health.
Now healed in a matter of days, they were beyond happy, but they also knew the treatment they got was above what specialist medical ninja could provide. It was borderline the best one they could get, meaning the one provided by a certain princess.
So they were naturally thankful to the boy who had been working the whole day for them.
"Well, having these many Jonin as future help is a boon, but don't think I will not use this favor. Since you guys are giving such a great offer, I will naturally utilize this in the future," Kaida said with a smile.
"Hahaha, okay. Now go and take some rest. You have been working for the whole day," another Jonin said.
Kaida nodded his head. Even though he was not showing it, he had been using his Sharingan for the whole day. The injuries these people suffered were more lethal than they had been thinking.
Not only were their legs and hands crushed and filled with sand and grime, but they were also burned. The medical ninja who had healed them there had made matters worse by healing the wounds before cleaning the area and taking other steps, most likely just using healing palm.
Many people think it is some miracle jutsu that will automatically heal any injuries, but they were very far from the truth.
Now Kaida had to pay for their misuse of the jutsu. First, he had to operate on the area, removing the non-uniformly healed flesh and then the grime and stone, aligning the bone properly while breaking the misaligned ones.
Then he had to micro-operate on the nerves to make sure they would have ample connection with the brain, and that needed the use of Sharingan. The process was so delicate that even a small mistake might be a huge factor in the movement of the ninja.
And considering the fights a Jonin-level ninja gets himself into, this would be doom for him in an actual fight.
Using healing techniques, multiple shadow clones to do the basic part of cleaning and aligning the bone, while he healed the ninja's nervous system had both physically and mentally drained him. But considering he had 25 strong ninja a call away from him was a reward much greater than the effort he had provided.
'I should take some rest now. I have a mission to complete tomorrow,' Kaida thought and went back to his home. He had already sent a shadow clone to his home to inform them about his extra work so that they would not worry about him.
But when he reached home, he found Yomi was sitting in the hall waiting for him. She was already half asleep and was awake through sheer willpower.
Due to the fuinjutsu practice in the day, she was not less tired either, but she was still awake for him.
"I think I said to not worry about me," Kaida said, sitting next to her. Since she was already half asleep, she only noticed him when he was sitting near her.
"What took you so long?" she asked, giving a big yawn.
"Work. Is this for me?" Kaida asked, pointing toward the food on the table.
"Yeah, I thought you would be hungry when you came back."
"You don't say. I am starving. Those demons didn't even give me a break for lunch," Kaida lied through his teeth. Even though it was true that he had not taken a lunch break or dinner break, it was by his own choice, and he was stuffed with nutrient bars he ate between the healing.
But considering the effort Yomi had put into the food, he couldn't just say that he was not hungry.
So he had a second dinner at 1 AM, while Yomi also ate a little to give Kaida company.
"So what was this work you were busy with?" she asked.
"Oh, there were some confidential patients that needed urgent healing, so I had to stay at the Hokage building for the whole day," Kaida said, slurping the noodles.
"Then you are going to take rest tomorrow, right?" Yomi asked, looking toward Kaida because she was the only one who knew how much of a training maniac Kaida was. There was a very high chance he might wake up early and go to some other work or training.
"I was planning, but..."
"But?"
"But Shikaku-san has assigned me with an A-rank mission, so I have to leave for a 2-week mission tomorrow," Kaida said.
"Two weeks? And an A-rank mission? But you have just..." Yomi stopped mid-speech, not wanting to bring up old wounds.
"I am fine now, Yomi. Also, I will not be alone. There are 8 other experienced Jonin with me on the mission as well," Kaida said.
"You really have to go?" she asked.
"Yeah, I am one of the few remaining in the village who could take this. Also, the pay is really nice," Kaida said, raising his thumb.
"Yeah, like we are short on money," she said, rolling her eyes. With the bathhouse and various other shops generating revenue like crazy, they had more than enough money for the rest of their lives. Even with the stadium construction acting as a black hole for their money, they still had more than enough.
And once the stadium started generating revenue, they would have more money each month than they could even spend. But who finds money worst? Also, considering the mission location, Kaida would have taken the mission even if the pay was not that good.
"Well, I will be back before you even know, so don't worry," Kaida said, patting her head.
"Not like I can stop you from going anyway. Just make sure you are safe," she said. Kaida nodded his head, and then they ate their dinner there with some idle chatter and then went to take some much-needed rest.
