Chapter 247 - Chapter 247 - Queen Daenerys of Arctic.

[Chapter Size: 3200 Words.]

---------------------------------------

Third Person POV

Arctic, 298 AC.

---------------------------------------

Daenerys was looking at her husband at the port as he was cheered for his arrival along with all those who had fought by his side.

Jon approached, stepping off the main ship, walking toward her and the other companions, with Seryna at his side. Meanwhile, Daenerys instinctively placed a hand on her belly, which was quite prominent at this point.

"Hm?" She couldn't help but feel her baby stirring.

"Something wrong?" Rhaenys, standing beside her, heard her murmur of surprise.

"Aegon seems restless..." Daenerys replied, running her hand over her belly above the dress.

"Perhaps it's the presence of his father..." The violet-eyed brunette suggested, and Daenerys nodded.

"Most likely..." Daenerys said, smiling as she turned her attention back to Jon, who was looking at them with a small yet serious smile.

'Are you happy to be near your father... Aegon?' Daenerys couldn't help but think as she smiled happily upon seeing Jon. After nearly five moons, he was back and would witness the birth of their first child, as he had promised.

"Papa! Mama!" The first to call out was Loki, who broke away from the formation that had been arranged, running toward Jon and Seryna.

Jon said nothing as he knelt to pick up the boy, who was now nearly three namedays old.

"How have you been?" Jon asked in a casual tone as the boy grinned.

"Good, but I missed you! So, Papa defeated the desert men of Essos! Uncle Aemon showed me the map of where you were fighting—it looks so amazing!" He exclaimed, and Jon nodded.

"We dealt with the enemy in Essos, and now we can focus on the enemy here from now on." Jon said, then paused. "Now, let me greet your other siblings and my other wives—stay with your mother." He said, handing the boy to Seryna, who grabbed him and covered his cheek with kisses.

Jon quickly picked up the little girl who had rushed to his legs before Ygritte could stop her, then briefly spoke with Lyanna, making the girl laugh.

Jon approached his wives, greeting each of them and their children—except for Hiyori and Daenerys, who were still carrying their firstborns. He greeted Rhaenys, touching her belly where Visenya was growing, and Jaehaerys, who was already able to speak and excitedly shouted, "Papa!"

Then, he looked at Daenerys, who smiled upon seeing her handsome and heroic husband clad in Valyrian steel armor with a green cape draped over his shoulders.

"My husband, I hope you had a smooth journey here." She said, smiling joyfully, welcoming back the man she loved to their new home.

"A few storms here and there, but the return was better than the first trip." Jon replied, gazing into her violet eyes.

"That's good, it's wonderful to have you home again." She said.

"How is Aegon? I hope he's growing into a strong boy." Jon said, placing a hand on her belly.

"Aemon says he will be as healthy as any of his siblings. After all, he has a very powerful father." She said, as Jon straightened up and nodded.

"We'll head to the castle soon." Jon said, then turned back to the rest of his wives, who were greeting Seryna.

He went to speak with the ministers to check on affairs while the queens moved toward their carriages, which were drawn by stags with gleaming antlers.

She sat beside Seryna and her son, watching Jon as he finished his conversations outside, then rode ahead on horseback while Rhaenys, Hiyori, and Rhaenys were in another carriage.

"You're pregnant..." Daenerys couldn't help but murmur as the carriage began to move, while Jon rode ahead, greeting everyone.

"Yes..." Seryna said, holding Loki in her arms as he looked at his mother's belly in surprise.

"It's true... I can feel my brother!" Loki exclaimed, his two-colored eyes widening in astonishment.

"You can feel him, can you?" Seryna looked at him with a smile, not seeming surprised. "And you already know it's a boy?"

"Yes!" He nodded enthusiastically.

"Seems like you take after your father more than I thought..." Seryna said.

Daenerys listened in silence, unable to stop herself from touching her belly, hoping that Aegon would resemble his father as much as Loki did.

"Any news from Arya in the south?" Seryna suddenly asked, turning to Daenerys.

"Yes... she sent a few letters." Daenerys responded, pausing for a moment before continuing. "She has been traveling throughout the North, as she said she would, and is now in the final part of her journey with her family."

"And about her father... Jon's uncle?" Seryna asked cautiously.

"About that... Arya has asked for our help." Daenerys said.

"I see... Jon seems to have some resentment... we should talk to him. He might regret it if he doesn't get the chance to speak with Lord Stark." Seryna said in a serious tone.

"I know..." Daenerys nodded.

They continued talking as they finally arrived at the castle, with Eragon soaring above just as Jon arrived. The dragon, as always, had circled Jon's ship in the canal upon his return and followed the king to the castle, landing for the first time since the port was too crowded with soldiers disembarking.

Daenerys stepped out of her carriage and saw Jon touching Eragon's snout. The dragon was so massive that Jon looked like an ant in comparison, but this did not seem to intimidate his children—Loki and Lyanna ran toward him while Jaehaerys tried to follow but was still too young to keep up.

Jon returned to them a while later as they headed to the castle. It was lunchtime, and everyone had refrained from eating earlier after the announcement that Jon had arrived in the kingdom.

They ate together while their children eagerly asked about the war, and Jon spoke of his experiences.

"I'll come to your chambers tonight." Jon said to Daenerys, who nodded in acknowledgment.

Each queen had her own chambers, and whenever the king wanted a more private night with one of them, he would visit her. It was not an ideal arrangement, but it worked. After all, Jon had more than one wife, and they all had to accept that he could choose to have private time with any one of them.

The harem was an unusual concept for those who had not been raised in the North. The old wildlings had taken multiple wives if they were strong enough, but Jon had created a system that functioned—he had to treat them all equally, offering gifts and attention fairly.

Daenerys gazed out of the window, watching as Jon made his way to the senate—his duties as king called him.

"So... I heard that the king has chosen you for his first night after the war in Essos..." A voice entered Daenerys' chambers just as she saw her lady-in-waiting approaching, closing the door behind her.

"Missandei..." Daenerys greeted her. "I think Jon has something to tell me..." She said.

"But you seem happy..." Missandei observed.

"I can't deny that feeling my husband's warmth tonight might please me after moons without seeing him." Daenerys admitted.

"That's good. Would you like me to prepare a bath for you?" Missandei asked the queen.

"That would be nice. Aegon has never been this restless in my belly—I would like to relax." She did not refuse.

Daenerys stayed in her chambers all day, reading and talking with Missandei, until Jon returned in the early evening when everyone gathered for dinner.

Jon then went to his chambers to take care of some matters, while Daenerys returned to her own, preparing to spend the night with her husband.

Jon arrived an hour later, closing the door behind him as Daenerys smiled at him. She stood by the window, dressed in a nightgown, gazing at the night in Arctic, which shimmered with the crystals Jon had implemented throughout the kingdom.

Even her chambers had their own crystals, glowing white—the color that defined all others better than any.

"You look as handsome as always, my husband," Daenerys remarked, watching Jon approach, dressed in casual attire, carrying a box in his hands.

"You are as stunning as ever, Dany," Jon replied, opening the box for her. "Here, a gift I brought from this journey."

Daenerys watched as Jon revealed a necklace inside.

He had crafted this gift after discovering some precious stones—spoils from the defeated Khalasar of Drogo. Jon had commissioned the dwarves to forge a Valyrian steel necklace, embedding it with Dracopurple gemstones.

Dracopurple was a gemstone similar to amethyst but far more valuable, equivalent to a diamond. Mined directly from Valyria, it was exceedingly rare. After all, the deposits of this gem had been destroyed following the Doom of Valyria, and the only ones that remained in the world were those extracted before the fall of the dragon empire.

Jon had found a great number of these stones in the vault of the city he ventured into in Valyria. However, the ones in this necklace had been discovered among Khal Drogo's belongings, and he had adapted them for Daenerys. He wanted to gift each of his wives something he had acquired during this journey.

Daenerys was the second to receive a gift—Jon had already given Seryna a sapphire necklace on their return. Now, he had to ensure all his wives were treated equally. The next day, he would present another Dracopurple necklace to Rhaenys, a ruby one to Ygritte, and an emerald one to Hiyori, who had been trying to replace her jade stones. All of them were crafted in Valyrian steel, which Jon had forged himself in a small smithy he had brought along.

"So beautiful..." Daenerys murmured, taking the necklace in her hands and examining it closely... Then, moving her hair aside, she turned to Jon with a challenging look.

"Why don't you put it on your wife?" She handed him the necklace.

Jon sensed the challenge and stepped closer, fastening the necklace around her neck as she turned to face him, placing her hands on his chest.

"It matches your eyes," Jon observed, gazing at the gemstone reflecting in her violet irises.

"Thank you, my husband... Thank you for everything. You truly ventured into the desert, faced Khal Drogo and the Dothraki to protect the kingdom and its interests... But can I pretend you did it for me too?" She teased with a smile.

Jon nodded. "You're not mistaken. After all, you are my family and the mother of my child. I must protect you, just as I protect this kingdom," he answered with a calm smile.

Daenerys merely smiled and slid her hands over his clothes. That night, the King of Arctic would belong to her alone. She led him to the bed, where they shared their night of passion.

The night continued as Daenerys lay naked on Jon's chest, wearing only the necklace he had given her hours earlier. She was satisfied, yet she sensed something weighing on his mind.

"Do you have something to tell me?" She finally asked, gazing into his eyes from that angle.

Jon sighed before speaking.

"Your brother was in the fight against Khal Drogo."

Daenerys' eyes widened in shock.

"He?" she murmured before pulling away from his chest and looking at him seriously. "He's dead, isn't he?"

Jon nodded. "Yes. He became a slave to Khal Drogo and was thrown into battle, but it changed nothing. His arrogance led him to his own death." Jon paused before adding, "Not that I feel any pity for him. I hope that doesn't offend you."

"No... It's fine," Daenerys replied, sighing. "I can understand things much better now. I'm not as naive as I was years ago. Viserys was a bad person... His behavior wouldn't have taken him far, whether in Westeros or anywhere else."

"Either way, I'm glad you've returned safely... Aegon will soon be with us, and I want our son to be as strong as his father," Daenerys said, while Jon simply gave her a smile.

"Thank you for everything. Have a good night, my husband," she said in closing.

In the end, they both fell asleep, resting side by side.

The next morning, Daenerys had her first meal with her companions, while Jon had already left to fulfill his duties as king. Soon after, Daenerys was summoned by Rhaenys to see the dragons.

They walked to a section of the courtyard where the dragons, bonded to their children and themselves, were kept. These dragons were still housed within the castle, and Daenerys greeted her dragon, Shadowfyre, her black-scaled beast, who immediately recognized his mistress, just as he did every day when she came to visit him.

He was already as large as a carriage but still unable to fly with her. However, Jon had told her that within a year, she would be able to soar over the city, and Daenerys eagerly awaited that moment. Jon had already taken her on a few rides, just as he had with Rhaenys.

She stayed there for a while, watching Shadowfyre and Merexes, Rhaenys' dragon. Even Jaehaerys, her niece's son, already had two dragons of his own—one blue and the other yellow—both larger than Daenerys' dragon. This was because the dragons bonded to Jon's children grew faster than those of their mothers.

Daenerys remained for some time with Rhaenys and the children while the queens also brought the other children to see the dragons. Then, Missandei approached.

"My queen, the carriage is ready," she informed Daenerys.

Daenerys nodded and looked at Rhaenys, but her niece gave her an apologetic look and a small smile.

"I won't be able to go today. Jaehaerys wants to visit the sacred grove with Hiyori, and I promised I would go with them," she explained.

"I understand. That's fine then," Missandei replied.

Daenerys bid farewell to Shadowfyre, who returned to his resting place, a special stable designed for dragons. Then, she headed to the carriage, where the royal guards were already waiting.

Upon entering, Missandei accompanied her, and soon, the carriage departed from the castle.

Traveling through Arctic always felt like a new experience for Daenerys. She saw all kinds of people walking through the streets or selling goods, following the monetary system that had been introduced to the Arctican people. Giants often had to stop in the streets as they moved in groups, with everyone waiting for the roads to clear. Most of them were armed guards heading somewhere in Arctic, but a few common giants simply wandered through the city to visit or shop, moving carefully to avoid stepping on anyone—not that people had to wait for them to pass.

Children ran excitedly toward the university, carrying books, some accompanied by animals, marking them as skinchangers. Dwarves lived among the citizens, speaking loudly to one another. Boats passed through the rivers that crossed the city, with their crews drinking and laughing, likely on their day off, singing merrily.

As they traveled through Arctic toward their destination, the guards continued clearing a path through the city. Some people pointed at the carriage, recognizing it as one belonging to the royal family.

At last, the carriage stopped in front of a newly constructed building.

In the courtyard, several children played while a group of women tended to them. As soon as they noticed the royal family's carriage, they immediately paused and urged the children to behave.

The carriage door opened, and Daenerys stepped down, dressed in a white gown, her hair loose, the Dracopurple necklace resting on her neck, while she carefully cradled her swollen belly.

"My queen, you came!" said a woman from the orphanage as she saw Daenerys and Missandei approaching.

The royal guards remained vigilant, ensuring her safety. Though the royal family had never been attacked within Arctic, security remained constant to prevent any unforeseen events.

"Of course, I came," Daenerys replied with a smile to the woman, with whom she had spoken several times before.

Daenerys had taken it upon herself to oversee the orphanages in Arctic. Many children had lost their parents in battles, and if they had no relatives, they were brought to the orphanages. Others, abandoned or found wandering alone outside the city walls—many from different tribes—were also taken in.

Jon had never denied entry to children in the kingdom, allowing them to be placed in the orphanages. Seeing this need, Daenerys decided to manage them, recognizing it as a way to contribute to Arctic as its queen. She wanted to prevent these children from suffering the way she and her brother had when they lived as street beggars in Braavos.

Moreover, she drew great inspiration from Queen Alysanne, wife of King Jaehaerys I, who had become known as The Good Queen for founding orphanages in King's Landing and aiding those in need.

"So beautiful..." murmured a little girl, staring at Daenerys in admiration as she approached the orphanage. "She has snow-colored hair!"

The comment brought a genuine smile to the queen's face.

Daenerys knelt in front of the girl, lowering herself to meet her gaze.

"What's your name, little one?"

"I'm Wicca," the girl replied.

It was a Northern name. Daenerys supposed she had come from a tribe, likely found by Arctican scouts patrolling the region.

"It's a pleasure to meet you," Daenerys said, smiling gently. "I am Daenerys of House Targaryen... But now, I am Daenerys of Arctic, wife of the king."

The girl's eyes widened in surprise, but Daenerys simply continued:

"You may call me just Daenerys. I hope you are living well here."

Little Wicca nodded, still a bit overwhelmed. "Here, I don't go hungry, and the food is very good," she said, though there was still a trace of sadness in her voice—likely from the loss of her parents.

"I'm glad to hear that. In any case, I will be visiting the orphanage regularly, and I hope to always see you happy," Daenerys said before returning to where the other children and the orphanage's caretaker stood.

She spent some time checking on their conditions, interacting with the little ones, and telling stories about dragons—something she loved to do.

Author's note: Dracopurple is a gemstone I created, as amethyst isn't very valuable, so I designed it much like I did with platinum coins.

I couldn't find the names of Daenerys' and Rhaenys' dragons, so please name them. If anyone knows their names, let me know and where to find them if possible.

This chapter was dedicated to Daenerys because I felt she was missing a dedicated section. So far, I've only written about when Jon rescued her. I also plan to write one focused on Rhaenys and Hiyori together in a chapter, but that will come later. After all, we are about to start the arc of Mance and the Free Folk army outside Arctic.
