Chapter 268 - Chapter 264:- Exploring the Countryside

After a little while, Maki clapped her hands. "Alright! Let's split up and explore!"

Kaina nodded. "We've got a week to relax. Let's enjoy it."

Rei turned to Izuku. "What about you?"

Fuyumi came up behind her and smiled gently. "You'll be with him, Mom. We all would be exploring it on our own."

Rei blinked. "What do you mean?"

Momo smiled, stepping forward. "The rest of us will wander around, settle in. But Izuku planned something just for you."

Kaina leaned down to Eri. "Hey, sweetheart. Why don't you come with me and Maki for a while?"

Eri looked torn, glancing at Rei.

Rei leaned down, brushing her fingers through Eri's hair. "It's okay, baby. I'll see you soon."

Eri pouted, but nodded. "Okay. But I want to braid your hair later."

"You can," Rei promised with a soft kiss to her forehead.

As Eri skipped away with the others, Rei turned to Izuku, a little unsure. "Just us?"

Izuku offered his arm. "Just us. Come on, there's something I want to show you."

Rei hesitated only a second before slipping her hand into his.

They walked slowly together through the garden path, past the tall trees and down a quiet lane that led toward a little hidden corner of the property.

It opened up to a small wooden bench facing the lake. A picnic blanket was laid out nearby, with a basket beside it. The sun cast a gentle gold over the water. It was quiet—just the wind, the birds, and the soft lapping of the lake.

Rei gasped softly. "This is… beautiful…"

Izuku smiled, sitting down on the blanket and patting the space beside him. "Thought you might like it."

She sat slowly, curling her legs beneath her. "I do… I really do."

Izuku opened the basket. Inside were her favorites—warm sandwiches, sweet tea, a few treats. He poured her a cup and handed it over.

She held it in both hands, feeling the warmth. "You remembered everything I liked."

"I remembered everything about you," Izuku said softly. "You have been wanting to have the same love and care that others get, but didn't ask for it.

It's partly my mistake as well, given I should have noticed it sooner, well better late than never, so I wanted this to be yours. Not just the place. The peace. The love and care you want."

Rei looked at him, her eyes soft and full, tears welling up in her eyes. "You're always doing so much for everyone. I didn't want to be a nuisance to you."

He shrugged. "If you were a nuisance to me, do you think we would be here? I do it for all of you guys because you matter to me. All of you."

Rei looked down into her tea, voice barely a whisper. "I've never felt like I mattered before. Let alone like this."

Izuku reached over and gently touched her hand. "You matter. More than you know. And not just because you're Eri's mom. Or Fuyumi's. But because you're you. Kind. Gentle. Brave. And finally… free."

Rei's eyes filled again, but her smile didn't fade. "Thank you… Izuku. For everything."

They sat together, sipping tea, watching the lake ripple under the golden sun.

No noise. No chaos. Just warmth. Just them.

And for the first time in a very, very long time—

Rei felt truly safe.

Like she could finally start living again.

They sat together for a while longer, just watching the lake. Rei leaned her head on Izuku's shoulder, feeling the soft wind move through her hair. The sun touched her skin gently, and for the first time in years, she felt like she could breathe freely.

After finishing their tea and sandwiches, Izuku stood up and offered his hand. "There's more. Come on."

Rei looked up at him, surprised. "More?"

He smiled. "A whole day just for you. You deserve more than just a picnic."

She took his hand and stood, still holding onto him. "Okay… Lead the way."

They walked through the quiet path, the trees parting to reveal a small car parked nearby. Izuku opened the door for her like a gentleman, helping her inside.

"Where are we going?" Rei asked softly.

"You'll see," he replied, with a small smile as he started driving.

They drove for a while through peaceful countryside roads, passing by small hills, wide meadows, and rows of trees with flowers in full bloom. The windows were down, and the air smelled fresh. Rei reached her hand out of the window, letting the wind flow through her fingers.

"It's beautiful out here…" she whispered.

"I wanted you to enjoy all this outside pain, totally free." Izuku said gently. "And today is just the beginning."

Eventually, they reached a quiet little town near the lake. It had cobbled streets, flower baskets hanging from the lampposts, and a soft calmness to it that made it feel like a dream.

Izuku parked near a small open-air market. "Let's walk around."

They strolled through the town, hand in hand. Rei stopped to look at handmade jewelry, little books with hand-painted covers, and fresh soap bars that smelled like lavender and honey. She smiled so much that her cheeks hurt.

Rei stood in front of the shop window, her eyes drawn to the soft white dress with little blue flowers scattered across it. The fabric looked light and flowy, like it would dance in the wind. It had short, puffed sleeves, a gentle neckline, and a ribbon around the waist that tied at the back.

"You like it?" Izuku asked

She turned to him quickly, shaking her head. "It's beautiful, but it's okay…"

Izuku gently took her hand. "Try it on. Just once."

Rei opened her mouth to protest, but something about his voice made her feel safe. She nodded slowly.

Inside the shop, a kind old lady led them to the back where the changing rooms were. Rei stepped inside one of them, holding the dress carefully in her arms. The light inside the small room was warm and soft. There was a large mirror and a small wooden bench to the side.

Izuku waited just outside, leaning against the wall.

After a moment, Rei called out softly, "Izuku…?"

He stepped closer to the curtain. "Yeah?"

"…Can you… come inside? I… I just don't want to be alone."

There was a pause. Then, gently, he pulled the curtain back and stepped in, making sure no one else could see.

Rei stood with her back to him. She had already taken off her top and was holding the dress close to her chest. Her back was bare, the smooth skin marked only by faint scars from a past she tried to forget. She felt a little nervous, but not afraid. Not with him.

"I'm sorry," she whispered. "I know it's a bit weird. It's just…I somehow feel safe when you're here."

"You don't have to be sorry," he said softly. "I'm here. Always."

She slowly slipped out of the rest of her clothes, giving it to Izuku who folded them neatly and placed them on the bench. While, she picked up the dress and carefully stepped into it, pulling it up over her body.

The fabric slid over her skin like water—soft, light, and comforting. She reached behind to tie the ribbon, but her fingers shook a little.

Izuku stepped forward. "Here, let me."

She held still as he gently tied the ribbon into a neat bow. His fingers brushed against her back, but his touch was calm and kind. When he finished, she turned to face the mirror.

She gasped softly.

The dress hugged her just right—not tight, just enough to show her figure in a gentle way. The white color made her skin glow, and the tiny blue flowers looked like they were floating around her. The skirt ended just below her knees and moved with the slightest turn of her body.

Her hands touched the fabric slowly. "I look…"

"Beautiful," Izuku said quietly.

Rei looked at herself again. Her hair was slightly messy, her face calm and soft. But in her eyes… she saw something she hadn't seen in years.

Light.

"I don't remember the last time I wore something this pretty," she whispered.

Izuku smiled at her through the mirror. "You deserve to feel pretty. Every day."

She turned to face him fully, her eyes glassy but full of warmth.

"I love this dress," she said softly. "Not just because it looks nice… but because I feel… new in it. Like I'm not carrying all the weight anymore."

Izuku nodded. "That's how it should be. You're free now, Rei. You can wear whatever makes you feel happy."

She stepped forward and rested her head against his chest.

"Thank you," she whispered. "For making me feel like a woman again. Not just a mother… or someone broken."

He wrapped his arms around her gently, holding her close. "You've always been a woman. Strong. Soft. Beautiful. I'm just glad you can finally feel it again."

They stayed like that for a little while in the quiet room—no rush, no fear. Just warmth.

Then, Rei pulled back, her smile glowing. "Let's buy it."

Izuku grinned. "Of course. But you're wearing it out of the store."

She nodded. "Gladly."

And when they stepped out together—her in that white and blue dress, walking beside him—she didn't feel like a shadow of her past anymore.

She twirled once in front of him outside the shop, laughing softly. Her laugh was warm, shy, and full of life. Izuku couldn't stop smiling.

Later, they walked toward a small café that sat on a wooden deck over the water. The owner smiled and welcomed them like old friends. Izuku had called ahead. The best table was waiting—right on the edge, with a perfect view of the lake.

They sat down, the breeze gently moving her hair.

Rei placed her hands on the table. "This feels like a dream."

Izuku shook his head. "Nope. This is your life now. No pain. No sadness. Just you. Just joy."

They ordered food—simple and warm. Grilled vegetables, soft cheese, handmade pasta, and cold fruit juice. Rei loved every bite, closing her eyes and humming softly after each spoonful.

She looked at him, heart full. "You know you're spoiling me aren't you."

He smiled. "Well, for someone who spoils everyone, you deserve to be spoiled as well."

After lunch, they walked again. Izuku took her to a small art gallery. Inside were paintings of peaceful landscapes, families smiling, sunrises, and quiet lakes. One painting showed a mother holding her child, standing in the sunlight.

Rei stood in front of it for a long time.

Izuku came up behind her. "Reminds you of Fuyumi?"

She nodded slowly. "Yes. Although it reminds me of eri as well. But Fuyumi as well, who always did her best to cheer me up. That time I couldn't smile properly. But…. This time, I see myself smiling too. A genuine smile."

Izuku said nothing, just stood beside her, his hand holding hers.

Later, as the sun started to go down, Izuku drove them back to the house. But he didn't go inside. Instead, he led her up a short hill behind the garden.

At the top was a wide wooden swing bench, big enough for two. It faced the lake and the setting sun. Fireflies began to blink gently around them.

Rei sat down, and Izuku joined her. The swing moved slowly.

She rested her head on his shoulder. "Today… was the happiest day of my life."

Izuku turned his head slightly, resting it gently against hers. "Then it's only the first of many."

They sat in silence for a while. The lake shimmered. The stars began to peek out one by one.

Rei finally whispered, "For the first time… I'm completely free. I'm not waiting for something bad to happen. I feel… safe."

Izuku held her hand. "You are safe. Forever."

A soft tear slipped down her cheek, but it wasn't from sadness. She wiped it away and smiled.

"I want to live now," she whispered. "Not just survive. Not hide. I want to live… and smile… and be loved."

Izuku looked at her. "You already are."

Of course. Here's the revised line with a gentle, meaningful kiss on the lips instead of a cheek kiss, keeping the tone soft and emotional:

She turned to him, eyes searching his face. Slowly, shyly, she leaned in and pressed her lips to his in a tender, lingering kiss. It was soft—filled with quiet warmth and gratitude. When she pulled back just a little, her eyes still closed, she rested her head on his shoulder with a peaceful sigh.

And as the stars lit up the sky above them…

Rei felt something bloom quietly in her heart.

Like peace. Like joy.

Like she could finally start living again.
