'It was a good thing that he had listened to the instructors.'
Slowly moving backwards with the limited leg space that he had, his shield was held in front of him while it periodically shot out larger forms of a shield at the slow moving horde of undead.
Since the passing hour, Slade had been anything but lazy.
Creating small pieces of obstruction such as tiny little craters, wooden trips among other things.
It usually wouldn't be useful against smaller groups.
But against the large group of undead summoned by the Wretched mother and the fact that Undead were generally stupid in the mind, it was an incredibly useful tool.
'Like right now!' Eyes lighting up Slade stabbed forwards with a dull flame lighting the blade.
Piercing the head of the Risen that had just fallen, his shield sifted through the undead horde and sent a few more of them tumbling backwards.
Not much good it did since there was a lot more behind the three toppled undead.
But nevertheless, it was only a matter of time until Slade got rid of the horde of undead.
And if anything, Slade had a LOT of patience from stake outs when trying to out criminal cartels.
The fact that the undead's corpses could be used to trip over more didn't escape his knowledge either as he moved around.
Stabbing several times in a single moment, the Lumbering Walking corpse fell to its knees before its upper half separated from the lower half.
Grimacing in disgust at the sight of a man's upper torso separating from the lower, Slade lifted his foot and stomped downwards.
By now, it was obvious that he was positively caked in blood and it wasn't doing anything to his mental state.
Slightly tightening his grip on his blade in disgust, the flames slowly licked off the blood on the sword before it decapitated the final undead being.
Leveling up at the last fell enemy Slade smiled at the thought.
It was a fine choice to attack all of the undead in the nearby vicinity and train them around while killing them.
And at some point as well he had killed the wretched mother!
It was hard to pinpoint exactly when since he was more or less preoccupied with not tripping over his own traps and tumbling into the horde of undead, but it still was cause for celebration.
And since he leveled up as well, alongside his higher experience going about generating an off copy slash with less Wrath points, he had gained a new active skill to be used in conjunction to his shield bash!
But depending on the skill it was debatable whether or not he would like to use them.
Opening the system interface and noting that the objective on the right stating the bonus objective was completed and all three wretched mothers have been killed.
He opened the skills tab and looked at the new active skill he could use in the defensive skill slot.
[Shield Glare]
[Cooldown: 12 Seconds]
[Light Erupts from your shield, blinding all your enemies in front of you.]
[Requires Shield]
It was as it said, a defensive skill.
And funnily enough, it wasn't one that needed Wrath at all unlike the shield bash skill.
But that wasn't a problem since he basically got how it worked albeit if he wanted to use the shield glare skill in real life he would need to solve several other stringent requirements.
All of them requiring a modicum of light that just couldn't be found when in the foggy forest of Old Tristam.
So he was slightly curious on how the Shield Glare skill would work in the dark surroundings.
Mentally selecting the skill slot, he held the shield in his hands and used it while wondering how it would work.
It worked well when he used it.
The problem was that he was looking directly at it.
"AGH! FUCK!" Dropping the shield to clutch his eyes in a semi exaggerated pain episode, Slade felt the sight of the shield be burned into his retinas.
"WHY THE FUCK DID I DO THAT!?"
Kneeling on the ground while clutching his eyes, Slade screamed the injustice of it all while his retina's burnt.
In hindsight it was something stupid to do since it was supposed to blind enemies and he was directly facing the source of the glare.
But normal logic yelled within his head that in this place without light it was impossible to create a glare bright enough to blind foes.
Something he should remember from now that although the world was now reality and conventional logic applied here, so did unconventional logic as well.
At least he now realized that fact instead of in the middle of a battle that could threaten to take his life, and now he new better than to test game logic against reality.
Or was it the other way around?
But nevertheless, he now at least knew that the Wrath seemed to move through the air and just create a blinding light through whatever eighth sense he had developed over time.
Of course that eighth sense wasn't exactly developed enough for him to completely understand what it was he was sensing, but it was at least enough for him to sense that it was moving.
Blinking blearily at the bright lights that seemed to want to kill his vision, his vision slowly returned.
And with it.
A blue spined monster.
"Holy!"
Reacting purely on instinct, his fist flew upwards and uppercutted the blue skinned monster in the jaw and sent it flying.
Of course, that brief surprise ended as he quickly took up arms, but he couldn't help but be confused at how these events occurred.
Following the jaw shot monster, the comrade of it slammed into his shield with a strange gleam in its beady black eyes.
Staring at the shining eyes which seemed to reflect himself, Slade belatedly realized that although it could blind.
The Shield Glare could also attract.
Belatedly realizing that fact, more monters emerged from the fog, their back covered in a series of spiked porcupine like quills as their bestial bodies moved.
[Quill Fiends]
Thats what they were.
Hunched over to allow the growth of the spiked quills on their mossy green back, they had large horns on the top of their head as they charged at Slade.
Seeing those monsters charge at him much like a bull, Slade did the incredibly smart thing and just stopped in place.
Spreading his legs to disperse the force to the ground, he held the shield up against his shoulders and plunged his shield into the ground.
Following that the Quill Fiend crashed into the shield but seemed to have done no damage to Slade and instead received all the damage itself.
Dizzyingly getting up, Slade followed it up with a shield bash straight to the face followed by Punish launching the Quill Fiend away with a blast of white light.
Staring at their comrades limp fall to the ground, it took a moment for the monsters to realize what they thought was tasty prey was in fact a dangerous predator.
A moment that allowed Slade to wield his sword and decapitate the head off the Quill Fiends blue shoulders.
Grinning slightly at the feeling of flesh separating underneath the force of the blade, green blood spilled out of the wound and forced the Quill Fiend to die while clutching its profusely bleeding throat.
Quickly spinning around, the Quill Fiends suddenly reacted and screeched in anger before their spines bristled up.
Preparing his shield for a charge, Slade was caught off guard when the two other Quill Fiends ripped off one of their quills on their back and threw them like javelins.
Caught off guard, Slade quickly reacted and adapted to the situation by not guarding against the thrown spines at all and let them uselessly whizz past his shoulders.
Say what you want about the aim of the creatures, but Slade instead of blocking them, instead crouch ran straight underneath the predicted trajectory of the spines.
And the spines themselves weren't really falling in a steep arc either.
Grinning, Slade smirked at the sight of the bewildered Quill Fiends that tried to attack Slade while he was low.
Frozen in place, Slade's smirk was the last thing that the blue skinned bipedal creatures could see before a bright white light stole their eyesight.
