ELIJAH'S POV
The phone call came at 6:47 PM. I was in my office, reviewing contracts for the Seattle expansion, when Detective Martinez's name flashed on my screen.
"Mr. Rossi, we have David Matthews Kent in custody. He attempted to take a child from Union Station. Thought you'd want to know."
My pen stopped moving across the page. "What child?"
"Joseph Stone. Age seven. The suspect claims to be married to the mother. I was told my the higher ups to keep you in loop."
Joseph. My blood went cold, then hot. I set the pen down carefully, my hand steady despite the rage building in my chest.
"Where is he now?"
"County lockup. Holding cell three. He's asking for a lawyer, but..." She paused, waiting.
I checked my watch. Twenty minutes to the county jail if I drove fast. "I want to see him."
"I figured you might. I'll make the arrangements."
