Chapter 142 - At the Breakfast Table

Anaya was stepping down the polished marble stairs of the DSJWR wing, the soft clicking of her heels echoing with each graceful stride. Her mint green tweed outfit hugged her frame with quiet confidence, the sunlight catching the pearl chain of her purse like little stars. She took a small sip of her morning coffee, but it did little to calm the bubbling curiosity in her heart.

Wait… Janvi's in Ria's room, right?

She walked toward the door and pushed it slightly open—just enough to peek inside.

Ria stood by the window, holding up a white dress, twirling it under the light like a proud fashion curator."I swear Janvi, this one's perfect for the meeting!" she said, the excitement clear in her tone.

But Janvi frowned, shaking her head."Ria, this isn't just some regular meeting. It's a project presentation too! I can't wear this."

Before Ria could protest, Anaya stepped inside with a soft smile and a teasing lilt in her voice."You know, I think a professional suit would suit her better. She really pulls off that boss-girl look."

Ria turned at the voice and broke into a mischievous grin."Look who's here—our dearest friend has arrived!"

Janvi looked up at Anaya and immediately caught the faint pink rising on her friend's cheeks.

With a knowing smirk, Janvi cut Ria off."Oh ho… looks like someone had a really good 'Good Morning' today."

Ria blinked in confusion."What are you talking about?"

Janvi giggled, reaching out to gently cup Anaya's cheek with one hand."Didn't you see? The blush… those red cheeks. Hmm?"

Anaya instantly turned away, trying (and failing) to hide her deepening blush. But her two best friends weren't about to let her off the hook.

Of course, Anaya Malhotra wasn't someone to stay quiet for long.

With that signature soft-yet-commanding voice, she turned to them and said,"Excuse me? Who teases people like this, hmm?"

Ria and Janvi burst into synchronized laughter."We do!" they replied without missing a beat.

Anaya narrowed her eyes playfully."Ohhh, so neither of you are innocent. You like teasing, huh? Should I reveal what someone said last night?"

Ria's eyes widened in alarm."Girl! You're not escaping today!" she squealed, bolting across the room as Anaya gave chase, both of them laughing like schoolgirls on a sugar high.

Janvi threw her hands up dramatically."Girls! I'm getting late for the meeting! Can someone please help me out?"

She flopped onto the bed like a damsel in distress, making Anaya and Ria exchange amused glances.

Anaya composed herself and gave the command."Ria, go bring out some of your professional outfits."

"And yes," she added, turning toward the closet, "find some matching jewellery too!"

The two girls sprang into action like seasoned stylists on a mission. Ria pulled open drawers and doors, tossing aside everything that didn't scream "girl boss." Finally, she returned with a cream-white professional office suit in hand.

"Try this on, Jannu," Ria said, handing it over.

Janvi held it up skeptically."It's too short..."

Anaya raised an eyebrow and whispered to Ria,"What did you even give her?"

Ria smirked devilishly."That's the skirt. The actual dress is this one."She held up the real suit like a magician revealing her best trick.

Janvi disappeared behind the screen to change, and when she stepped out...

Both girls froze.

Wide eyes. Dropped jaws.

"You look gorgeous, girl!" they shouted in unison, clapping like excited stylists watching their star client slay a runway.

"Okay, now it's makeup and hair time!" Ria declared with authority, pulling Janvi toward the vanity table.

Janvi hesitated, biting her lip as she looked down at the suit."Seriously... is it not too short?"

Without missing a beat, both Ria and Anaya responded with grins on their faces—"No, Jannu!"

The nickname made Janvi break into a soft giggle, her nerves slowly melting under the comfort of their friendship. The room filled with laughter, half-tied ponytails, glittering blush brushes, and that unmistakable sense of sisterhood.

Three girls. One destiny. And a bond stronger than any fabric they picked that morning.

Ten minutes later, the transformation was complete.

Janvi stepped out of Ria's room with confidence tucked into every fold of her cream-white professional suit. Her sleek hair was parted to the side, subtle makeup enhancing her features, and a delicate pearl pin tucked behind her ear added the final touch. Ria clapped her hands, unable to hide her pride.

"Chalo chalo!" Ria urged with playful urgency. "We're getting late for breakfast! Aur haan—" she twirled, giving them both a once-over, "Girls, you're both looking like fire! Total slay mode on!"

Anaya laughed, swinging her purse over her shoulder."Same to you, Miss Model of the Year."

The three girls giggled, stepping out of the room together, their laughter echoing through the grand corridor of the Singhaniya Mansion. With every step they took down the stairs, there was a harmony in their presence—grace, youth, and a kind of sisterhood that was rare and radiant.

Downstairs, in the dining area, the men of the house were already gathered—engaged in a serious morning discussion with Dev Singhaniya about a merger.

Aarav sat with a newspaper folded on one side, Ravi typed away on his tablet, and Rudra—calm, composed, and in his usual black shirt—was listening to his father while sipping coffee. The air was thick with ambition and strategies until…

The sound of giggles floated down from the stairway.

Rakhi, seated beside Komal and setting bowls of chutney and pickle on the table, paused and looked up toward the sound. Her eyes softened the moment she saw the trio descending.

Ria in an ivory jumpsuit, Anaya in a mint green tweed co-ord, and Janvi glowing in her cream office suit—their aura sparkled like morning sunlight on dewdrops.

Rakhi smiled quietly and murmured under her breath,"Teen deviyaan..."

Komal caught it and gave a warm nod.

Dev, who noticed his wife's dreamy gaze, asked with a teasing smile,"Kya dekh rahi ho, Rakhi?"

Before she could respond, even Dev turned his head—and the moment he did, the soft sound of their laughter reached the table. The sight in front of them had the power to pause everything.

Each man's gaze shifted to his woman.

Aarav, already turning the page of his newspaper, looked up and caught sight of Janvi. His lips parted slightly, and just as he whispered,"Is she..."Ravi leaned closer, smirking,"Goddess of your sass?"He was trying to tease, but as his eyes found Ria—looking divine in her minimal makeup and effortless walk—he went quiet too.

Rudra, the only man at the table with a wife, didn't speak. He just watched. His gaze was fixed on Anaya—his Anaya. She looked breathtaking. And even though their marriage was hidden from the world, in this moment, his eyes said everything he couldn't voice aloud.

The three women reached the table and greeted them with graceful smiles.

"Good morning, Grandmom, Dad, Mumma," they chorused respectfully, bowing their heads slightly in front of the elders.

"Good morning, beta," Komal replied, eyes twinkling.

They moved toward the dining chairs and sat opposite the men. As they adjusted their napkins and accepted their plates, Komal turned to Janvi with affection.

"Janvi beta."

Janvi looked up, surprised at being addressed so warmly."Yes, Dadi?"

"Sab theek raha? Did you sleep well last night in the new room?"

Janvi smiled gently, her eyes kind."Yes, Dadi. Thank you so much. I felt really comfortable."

Rakhi smiled and placed a plate in front of Janvi."Aaj ka breakfast meetha aur namkeen dono hai. Taste everything, hmm?"

The table was filled with the aroma of poha, aloo paratha, fruit salad, and kesar chai. Janvi glanced around—watching the family laugh, talk, and smile—and for a moment, she felt as if she had belonged here all her life.

Then Anaya leaned closer and whispered to Janvi with a reassuring smile,"Don't stress, I have all the code and details saved. Presentation toh tu mast karegi, okay?"

Janvi's shoulders relaxed instantly."Thank you, Anaya."

But someone else had overheard.

Dev Singhaniya raised his brow slightly, sipping his tea, and asked,"Anaya beta, did you just say 'presentation'?"

Ria, ever the enthusiastic sister, jumped in."Haan Dad! Janvi ka new project hai. She's presenting it in front of the full board today. Big day!"

Dev smiled, proud and encouraging."Achha... toh humari betiyon ke sapne ab boardrooms tak jaa rahe hain. I like that."

His words were met with soft giggles and nods, and for the next few moments, the air at the breakfast table wasn't filled with strategies or stress—but with pride, love, and the feeling that something beautiful was beginning.

Would you like me to write the presentation scene next, or continue with a moment between Janvi and Aarav before they leave?
