The sun shines brightly and warmly onto a boat floating in the middle of an extremely large lake.
Bzz! Bzz! Bzz!
Croak.. Croak..
Chirp! Chirp! Chirp!
Small animals and critters make sounds as a man in his early thirties swings around a fishing rod before casting it.
He then sits in a small wooden fishing boat, wearing a long sleeve white shirt, shorts, and a sleeveless fishing jacket.
He smiles, staring at his 7-year-old son wearing shorts, a white t-shirt, and a life jacket. He sat across from the man, holding a small fishing rod.
The boy smiled joyfully at his father, before making a curious expression as he gazes into the distance. " Father, how big is this lake? I've always heard people say it's big, but how big is it really?"
The man's eyes widen slightly. He responds with a gentle smile. " Well I'm not too sure. The lake has a weird heart shape that's leaned to the left. But the ones who sold it to me said that it is around 360 meters wide."
" Meters? What are meters?" Asks the boy, tilting his head slightly to the right.
His father momentarily makes a confused expression. " Uhh– don't worry about it. –It's a really big lake~" he chuckles while making an expanding circle with his arms.
The boy smiles and giggles. " I see... But.. what are we doing here, Father? Are you distracting me while Mother prepares my birthday party?~"
His father chuckles. " Why are you so perceptive, my child?~ Well, you're wrong. You're birthday is tomorrow, Jinsoo. You'll just have to wait~"
The young boy lets out prepubescent groan. " But I wanna celebrate it today! Can't we just have the party today? I wanna have my party! I wanna have my party!" He yelled, swinging his small fishing rod around.
The man gently pets his son's head. " Settle down, boy.. Patience is crusial. In life and in skill."
The boy froze after hearing his father's words.
Skill? Does that mean...
The young boy speaks hesitantly. " Father... Does that mean..?"
His father smiles and nods.
The boy's expression immediately turns joyful. With a grin, he exclaims. " ..you're finally going to teach me the...!"

Flash!
Bang!
Flash!
A woman's muffled sobbing can be heard.
Flash!
Jab! Jab! Jab!
Muffled screams of pain can also be heard.
Flash!
[ –have to kill one living creature~]
Flash!
" Aaaaahhh!!"
.
.
.
Gasp!
Jinsoo wakes up in a cold sweat, breathing heavily as he looks around his room. The golden light of the sunrise shines through his window.
He looks around his room, breathing heavily. " What.. was that?.."
Jinsoo turns to his left and looks at his alarm clock, which shows that the time is 6:30AM.
" It's still pretty early.." he winces in pain, touching his forehead as he vaguely remembers his usual dream. " What was that dream? I've never had one like that.."
He looks at his palm, feeling the gentle warmth of the sun as it rises. He follows the light spread onto his tanned arm.
Jinsoo slowly turns around to look out the window. He smiles as he notices the silhouette of a woman sitting on the edge of the pier with a Class 1 fishing boat next to her.
.
.
.
Waves gently splash against the boat as the the woman takes in the view of the sunrise reflecting off the lake. She closes her eyes, bathing in the sun's gentle warmth.
Creeak..
The woman gasps and looks behind her, slightly panicked. But her expression quickly softens, the corners of her mouth curve upwards. " Why are you up so early, my dear son?~"
Jinsoo stands up straight after trying to sneak up behind her by ducking. " This damn wood got me caught!.."
Jinsoo's mother laughs as he walks closer. She speaks playfully. " The wood didn't get you caught. It was the view! If you weren't distracted by the view, then you would've definitely scared me~"
Jinsoo sits next to her and leans back, holding himself up with his arms. " Well, I haven't practiced in a while, so maybe I got a bit rusty~"
She chuckles, playing with his eye-level long hair. " Those techniques aren't really something that you can get rusty with.." Now tell me, why are you up so early?"
He leads on her shoulder, frowning slightly.
" I had a dream about him again..."
Her eyes widen momentarily before she begins gently stroking his hair. She smiles with a slightly saddened expression. " Are you alright?..."
He smiles, slightly aggrieved. " Yeah.. It wasn't a bad one. Dreaming that made me feel even more thankful.. For the short time that we spent together when he was still here..."
She smiles and kisses his head once, then she leans against his head.
They both take in the view in front of them. Thankfully for the time they're spending together.
She doesn't need to know about the other part of my dream.. It's probably not even that important...
.
.
.
Vapor fills the restroom as Jinsoo steps out of the shower, drying his hair. He wraps the towel around his waist before checking the time on his phone.
Wow, it's 7:45 already.. time flies when you're casting a net in your own private lake.
Jinsoo walks out of the restroom, the smell of eggs and carp lingering in the air. He glances to his left, in the direction of the kitchen.
Carp for breakfast again? I'm starting to get sick of eating carp every day.. It's been a week!
Jinsoo sighs and enters his room, slicking back his hair.
He clicked his tongue as he realizes that the smell had already spread into his room.
" The one thing I regret doing is catching those five carp with her..."
He opens his drawer and begins looking for clothes to wear. He glances at a green book with golden outlines that he had tossed on top of the drawer after reading a few pages a month ago.
' Survival of The Fittest'
This is the book my father instructed mom to give me for my 15th birthday... Mom said that it was his favorite book, but it's pretty graphic.
I guess that's a part that I didn't know about dad...
Jinsoo puts on a long sleeve black shirt that outlines his fit build and dark green pants that contain extra pockets on his thighs and calves. " This is pretty good for today."
He glances out towards the hallway, seeing that his mom is still in the kitchen, he packs an extra pair of the clothes he's currently wearing into his backpack.
I'm gonna need this to change into before coming home today.. That way, mom won't suspect anything.
He then walks out of his room, down the hallway, and enters the open doorway at the end of the hallway that leads into the dining room.
Jinsoo then walks around the table containing a full rice cooker and a large plate containing various slices of cooked carp, shuddering at the smell of it.
Yuck! It doesn't even taste bad. I'm just starting to get sick of it..
He enters the open doorway to the right of the dining room, entering the kitchen. He then opens the fridge, taking out a gallon of orange juice.
Jinsoo's mom fans the vapor coming out of the eggs. She turns around with a smile as she hears the sound Jinsoo opening the fridge. " I'm almost done with the eggs~ Also, the table is set with some rice and carp, so go ahead and start eating."
She then turns around again to focus on the eggs.
Oh no... Well, what if I try to convince her to let me eat something else? Maybe she'll notice that I don't want to eat carp!
Then she'll let me eat some kimchi fried rice or some seaweed soup this time!
He smiles nervously, glancing at the prepared table to his right. " Um.. Isn't there anything else to eat?" He asks, continuing carefully. " I mean, we've been eating carp for a week now.. Don't you want to try something else?.."
Hey... I think it's working! She's smili...
Oh.. she isn't...
Silence momentarily fills the room before Jinsoo's mother turns around with a malicious smile. " Are you being ungrateful, Jinsoo?... It's not very kind to reject a meal that your kind mother worked on~ So why are you rejecting mine?~"
Oh crap! Now I've done it! I gotta calm her down! Damn it!
Jinsoo smiles nervously, waving his hands in front of him in denial. "No~ I wasn't rejecting your food~ I was just.. wondering if there was something else to eat, that's all.."
He chuckles nervously as his mother's malicious aura disappears. " Well I'm glad you're accepting my food~ And we have some eggs and rice to eat~ Not just the carp~"
She smiles joyfully as she takes out the 4 sunny side up eggs. " Now, let's go eat our breakfast~"
Jinsoo sighs.
I did it... Now she won't kill me..
Jinsoo chuckles, then he joins his mom, sitting and eating at the dinner table, each plate contains a slice of carp, rice, and an egg.
They eat what they have on their plates before grabbing more and eating that as well.
Jinsoo's mother joyfully watches him eat as she drinks her morning coffee.
.
.
.
Jinsoo puts his shoes on at the front door. He stands up and looks back at his mother, who is cleaning up the dinner table. " See you later, Mom!"
She smiles as he opens the door. " Alright, see you later!~"
Jinsoo closes the door and locks it. He steps out of the front gate, closing it behind as he notices a clean black car parked in front of their neighbors house.
I've never seen that car around here.. Did Ms. Lee get scammed by loan sharks? I thought the store was doing well...
He continues walking, noticing two fit and well dressed men, one slightly taller than the other. They both held serious expressions while smoking. Both of them watch him as he walks by them.
Creepy...
He passes by the car, but he notices a third man crouched down, smiling as he plays with something on the ground. Jinsoo's eyes widen as he realizes that the third man is actually dissecting a live frog.
What the hell is he doing?! That piece of shit.
Jinsoo grips his backpack as he thinks about confronting the man torturing the small creature, but he stops himself after thinking about the problems he could cause.
The other two men notice his stares, so they take to two steps towards Jinsoo, trying to scare him off.
Damn! I wish I could just– But I can't. It'll cause problems for mom.
Jinsoo takes two steps back and continues walking away.
The taller man slaps the one crouched down. " Hey! Stop playing around, you crazy bastard."
He then steps back, leaning on the black car. He takes a huff of his cigarette as he directs his gaze towards Jinsoo's house. " Get ready to intercept our target."
