Her red eyes gleamed again, and he stood rooted to the ground, unable to run, speak, or even blink. A cold breeze whispered through his ears as her shadow slithered into his mind, roaring through his memories like a storm. She sifted through them until she located the box she was searching for, and her smile widened.
"Sorry, doc. But this is going to be just a little bit painful," she said gently.
But there was nothing gentle about what came next. He couldn't scream or move. He just stared at her, helpless, frozen. Her shadow plunged into the box, taking the shape of a jagged knife with fiery, blazing edges, and without hesitation, she drove it in.
