*Note: I'll see you in the next chapter with the beggining of the next film: Pokémon 3: Spell of the Unown: Entei!
...
Her Torrent ability combined with her increased strength from her evolution, caused her attack to become so powerful that even Muk could not resist it and was weakened almost immediately.
By the way, as a curiosity I forgot to say that, in this world, the order in which you get the badges is not important. If it were, I would have had to challenge Sabrina instead of Koga, but since it doesn't matter, I decided to challenge Koga first.
*Note: as you may have read in previous chapters, gym leaders have access to the information of all challengers, so when you challenge them, they know perfectly well which Pokémon to use against them, whether they are strong or weak, that's why it doesn't matter the order. I just followed the order until now because I felt like it, but in this one I decided to change it to let you know that I could even make Sabrina the last badge.
Returning to the battle, when he crashed into the wall, Muk tried to get up. He seemed determined to continue fighting, however, his wounds were too many and his fatigue prevented him from standing for a long time, falling weakened right after.
"You've done well, Muk, now you can rest" – Koga said returning his Muk to his Pokéball.
"You deserve a break too. I think continuing to battle would be counter-productive" – I told Wartotle as I pulled out her Pokéball.
Wartotle looked at me and nodded.
Her trainer was right, right now, already relaxed by having defeated Muk, she began to feel that her strength was failing her, so if she did not return to her Pokéball, it did not take long to fall weakened. Staying on the battlefield would only result in a guaranteed defeat, so the best thing was to return to her Pokéball and rest until she was taken to the Pokémon Center. There, Nurse Joy would help her make a full recovery and get back to 100% of her energy.
After thanking her once more, I returned Wartotle to her Pokéball so she could rest.
"I guess your Wartotle can barely continue, so technically it would be a draw: Am I wrong?" – Koga said.
"Technically I won, but you're right, Wartotle can't keep fighting, so even if you win the next battle... I won't be able to use her in the battle and instead I'd have to battle with Pikachu" – I nodded.
Wartotle is practically weakened and unlike video games, I couldn't use potions or anything. It's not that they didn't exist, but potions couldn't be used in Pokémon battles, only outside of them. Those are the rules of the Pokémon League, otherwise, a trainer could win only by healing the same Pokémon over and over again until the rival Pokémon fell weakened due to fatigue or worse: Can you imagine two trainers using potions all the time? The battle would be eternal! And while they could put a limit on the number of potions per battle... they decided to ban them to avoid cheating or something similar.
"2 vs 1, I have it complicated, but I'm not going to give up. Get ready to fight my next Pokémon: Venomoth I choose you!" – Koga exclaimed.
Immediately after, a Venomoth took to the battlefield with the intention of winning the next battle.
If someone else saw a Venomoth they might think: "It'll be an easy battle" but in this world where Pokémon don't possess Ivs or Evs, a Pokémon like Venomoth can become quite strong if he receives proper training. This rule applies to all Pokémon on this planet with the exception of two, Magikarp and Feebas, both of which remain weaklings until they are able to evolve. Although there are surely some similar Pokémon, none are as weak as those two. We could even say that Feebas is even stronger than Magikarp. By the way, that reminds me that I want to have a Milotic in the future. Maybe when I travel to Hoenn?
"Aren't you going to use your next Pokémon?" – Koga asked.
Ash had stared at the battlefield without blinking, so Koga was surprised.
"I'm sorry, I was just thinking about which Pokémon I should use, but I've already decided!" – I said quickly.
Shit, I have to stop thinking when I'm in the middle of something as important as a battle!
Going back to the topic, right after saying that, I took out a Pokéball. this Pokéball belonged to the Crystal Onyx, a strong Pokémon but that I had not used in a battle until now, so, I think the time has come to check how strong she really is. Although I know that it is strong because I have been training with her (along with my other Pokémon), I want to see how she performs against a gym leader, after all, it is possible that in the Pokémon League we will have to face trainers much stronger than a gym leader.
"Onix, I choose you!" – I exclaimed.
At that very moment, my crystal Onyx, an unique Pokémon that surely no one has (except Roxanne), came out onto the battlefield and looked at Venomoth with an intimidating look.
"What is that Pokémon? It looks like an Onyx, but its body is... made of glass?" – Koga said surprised.
Even the referee was surprised: What kind of Onix is that? His body seemed to be made of glass and he knew perfectly, thanks to the internet, that the Shiny Onyx was not that color, but was golden. But then: What was that Onyx? Not even on the internet were there records of an Onix of these characteristics.
"Let's say it's a very special Onix that I befriended by chance: right?" – I said.
"Nix!" – Onix nodded.
Onix was very happy, she could finally show her strength in a real battle. She had been training hard and finally it was time to show her strength.
"But is it rock-type?" – Koga asked without understanding.
"You're very insightful, but... if I tell you I will lose the surprise element: Don't you think?" – I smiled.
Koga was surprised: how could he battle against a Pokémon that didn't even know what type it was? As a gym leader, he had to know the types of all the existing Pokémon, but at no time, in any of the books he studied, was that Onix shown, so he had no idea what type she was.
"It doesn't matter, I'll find out during the battle. Venomoth uses Sludge Bomb!" – Koga exclaimed.
Koga didn't know the type of my Onyx, but he did know that it would be very difficult to dodge attacks with such a gigantic body, so those types of attacks were the best one because a Pokémon of that size wouldn't be able to dodge those attacks in time, but what Koga didn't know is that my Onix has the item: "Assault Vest" equipped and special category attacks could withstand them very well, that coupled with its abnormally high defense and her powerful special attack and moderately good physical attack... makes Onix an extremely powerful Pokémon.
"Onix, don't dodge it and use Rock Throw!" – I exclaimed.
Onix nodded and received the attack fully, however, she did not suffer any damage. Thanks to the Assault Vest, Onix was an extremely defensive Pokémon and a simple Sludge Bomb could not damage her.
Instead of that, Onyx slammed her tail into the ground, causing large chunks of rock to rise and, as if they had a life of their own, head straight for Venomoth.
"Dodge it!" – Koga exclaimed.
Venomoth did what he could and was able to barely dodge Onix's attack, but...
"Use Ice Beaml!" - I exclaimed.
Because Venomoth was distracted dodging the last rocks, he was unable to dodge Onix's Ice Beam and was hit by it, weakening him completely. That's right, Venomoth had been weakened in one hit, thus demonstrating the enormous strength of Onix, a Pokémon with high defenses and a great attack, a Pokémon that could only be defeated by Pokémon more powerful than Venomoth, although perhaps poor Venomoth could have done something more if he had had more freedom of flight, but that does not take away from how powerful Onix was, who emerged victorious from his first battle and weakened her opponent with a single attack.
