The engagement dinner was just hours away.
Isabelle Chen sat in her walk in closet it was filled with racks of designer dresses,bags,shoes and all sort of girlish luxuries. Each piece had been chosen with care for her former self- a girl who wanted to impress,to be loved,to be accepted.
But sadly that girl was gone.
She pulled out a sleek,midnight blue gown with a high slit and bare shoulders. The dress screamed elegance. It clung to her form nicely, whispering danger with every movement.
She stared into the mirror as she fastened a pair of diamond earrings and painted her lips in deep red.
Tonight wasn't just a dinner. Outside they thought tonight was about love a celebration of her engagement to Alex. Isabelle knew better it was war. Tonight was her first step towards revenge.
The venue was already setup to Isabelle's taste instead of the originally planned grand ballroom,the garden terrace of the Chen estate was now glowing with warm lanterns and soft music. Only few people were invited.
Drawing a slow breath, she stood up and walked towards the door. Her heels clicked against the marble floor as she made her way down to the party below. The garden was already buzzing with guests. Soft whispers and laughters echoed around the halls along with the clinking of glasses.
Dressed in a shimmering gold high slit ball gown ,Ruth looked like a queen desperate for attention. But the moment she saw Isabelle,her steps faltered,she sauntered over with a forced smile plastered on her face.
" You look different tonight "- Ruth said her voice dripping with fake sweetness. Her mind raging with jealousy at how beautiful Isabelle looked wishing she could rip the dress apart as this was not the original dress they'd planned, she was meant to steal the spotlight.
"Thank you" Isabelle replied curtly barely glancing at her.
Anger flashed across Ruth's face but she quickly masked it with a smirk. But Isabelle caught it,which gave her a thrill of satisfaction.
"This is just the beginning of your plans failing" Isabelle thought.
Just then Alex appeared looking especially charming,tall and handsome. He looked every bit like a perfect fiance.
He walked towards Isabelle and took her hands. She let him kiss her hands for the guests sake feeling nothing but disgust.
"You look breathtaking" Alex whispered in her ears his hands sliding against her lower back. Though Isabelle played her part well as a devoted fiance. Her mind was alert waiting for the right moment. Just then they heard someone gasp and all heads turned towards the entrance and the most influential young master in all of country N and even overseas walked in.
The moment he stepped into the garden the atmosphere shifted.
He was tall,dressed in a black tailored suit that seemed to absorb the light around him. His features were striking,sharp and cold like a sculpture carved from ice.
He was Kevin Zhen the CEO of Zhen corporations. It was also said that he might be the secret leader of the underworld mafia in country N.
He didn't smile or glance at anyone else.
When his cold eyes met hers, she felt a shiver down her spine but not in fear.
