Chapter 217 - Chapter 214 - And Then, There Was Silence.

The next day dawned like any other. Savannah, dressed in a crisp white coat over her navy blouse, left for the hospital without uttering a word. Her steps were steady, her face unreadable, but beneath the composed surface, her soul was churning. Elijah, as always, silently took the passenger seat beside the driver. His presence was constant now-a guardian of sorts, one who stood between her and the world she no longer trusted.

The drive was quiet. Savannah stared out the window as the city blurred past, her thoughts tethered only to her son. Not a word was exchanged. When they reached the hospital, Elijah didn't accompany her in. He gave her a small nod, and she knew it was because today, he had something far more important to prepare.

Inside the hospital, Savannah barely set foot in her cabin when a nurse rushed in, announcing an emergency surgery. Without hesitation, she ran to the operating theatre. Three long hours passed. Her hands moved with precision, her mind sharp, and when it was over, another life was saved.

Yet, a haunting thought lingered. If she could save a stranger's life, why couldn't she save her own child?

Guilt wrapped around her like a tight grip. Her patients called her a savior—but here she was, unable to protect the one life that meant everything to her. Was she a fraud? A failure? A terrible mother?

As evening fell, her shift ended early—Blaze's orders, of course. The car was waiting outside. Elijah wasn't there this time. She didn't question it; she knew exactly where he was—laying the groundwork for something that could change everything.

Half an hour later, she returned to the mansion. The grand estate felt cold and silent as she walked through the doors and made her way to her bedroom. The clock ticked just past 7 PM.

She had showered and changed, looking as though she were ready to rest-but sleep was the last thing on her mind. Her bare feet moved across the wooden floor toward the window. She watched the night take over, the estate glowing under carefully placed lights.ards paced the perimeters. Everything looked normal... too normal.

She slipped on her slippers and walked downstairs to the front yard, inhaling the cool air deeply. It helped soothe the weight in her chest. Then, as if drawn by memory, she wandered to the backyard.

There it was-untouched. A candlelit garden setup, a heart of red petals, a cozy canopy draped in soft white curtains. The gentle lights bathed the area in a golden hue. Savannah stepped into the canopy and sat on the plush cushions inside. This used to be her sanctuary. A place Blaze once brought her to make her smile. Back when she didn't know who he really was.

She closed her eyes, and for the first time in what felt like forever, she experienced... stillness. Calmness. It was the eye of the storm, she realized—a moment of peace before the chaos hit.

Then, a voice shattered the silence.

"It's time."

Startled, she looked up to see Elijah standing by the curtain, dressed in black like a shadow in the night. Savannah nodded slowly and rose from her seat. "You can't back down now," Elijah said, his voice steady and reassuring.

"I'm ready to find my son," she replied firmly.

They moved in silence, weaving through the shadows of the mansion until they reached Blaze's private study. The room was shrouded in darkness, the air thick with unspoken secrets. Elijah paused near the wall, still as a statue.

"How did you know that passage was there?" Savannah asked, curiosity piqued.

"I'm his right-hand man," Elijah replied matter-of-factly. "Knowing all his secrets... that was part of the job."

"Why didn't you tell me sooner?"

"Because you wouldn't have been able to access it. The passage has sensors—he would've known before you even touched the door. But now... now we have the advantage."

Savannah nodded, understanding.

Elijah flicked on a small flashlight. Together, they moved cautiously to the spot where Savannah last saw Theo before he disappeared. Her heart raced painfully in her chest, each step feeling like a punch to her ribs.

Elijah turned to her. "Ready?"

Words escaped her, but she managed a slow nod.

He placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "Everything's going to be okay."

With her heart pounding, she stepped forward and watched as Elijah entered a code. A soft hiss of air escaped as the secret door slid open, cold air spilling out.

Inside, it was pitch black. Elijah took the lead, illuminating the space with his flashlight. He found the switch on the wall, and the overhead light flickered on.

Savannah's breath caught in her throat.

It was a room.

A perfectly cleaned, organized room. Sterile. Cozy. It had a child-sized bed, small shelves with books, and even a toy chest. There was a side room-a restroom-and another small space that looked like a play area. But there was no child. No Theo.

Elijah," she whispered, voice trembling.

"I know," he said, eyes scanning. "I'll check the side rooms."

They split up, searching for any sign. Savannah called Theo's name, her voice breaking with each echo in the empty walls. Nothing. No giggle. No running feet. Just silence.

Until they saw it.

Inside the restroom-a freezer.

Time stopped.

Savannah stared at it, her hands curling into fists.

"I'll check," Elijah offered.

"No," Savannah said, her voice just a breath. "Let me."

He hesitated but stepped back.

Savannah walked forward, slow and heavy. Every instinct in her body screamed not to open it. But she had to. She had to know.

Her fingers curled around the handle.

She yanked it open.

And froze. Her world stopped.

Everything shattered.

Into tiny little pieces.

Inside, was Theo. Still in the same outfit he had been wearing that day. He was lay inside, motionless, stilled... lifeless.

He was dead.
