Chapter 308: It Has Side Effects

Seeing what was inside the box,

Wu Heng raised an eyebrow.

Rocket launchers.

These things have appeared countless times in movies and TV shows.

They're usually carried on the shoulder, fired at a target, and after one shot, nothing but bones would be left.

"Open this one too," Wu Heng continued.

The skeletons opened another box, revealing the same launchers and rockets inside.

Looking at the contents on the floor, Wu Heng frowned slightly.

These people hadn't just bought a lot of bullets; they also purchased rocket launchers.

It seemed like they had a plan.

Fortunately, Wu Heng didn't come in directly but instead entered through the rooftop and caught them off guard.

Otherwise, if a conflict had occurred and they used these two rocket launchers,

it wouldn't have been a joke.

Even though his stats far exceeded those of ordinary people,

he wasn't at the point where he could withstand a rocket to the body.

He had also relied on modern weapons to kill quite a few level 15 professionals.

Shifting his gaze,

Wu Heng stored all the ammunition into his spatial ring.

This ammo was quite a valuable haul.

......

After circling the entire base,

Wu Heng assigned skeletons to guard key areas.

He was quite satisfied with the location; it used to be an old factory.

There were workshops, dormitories, and a courtyard, with well-paved roads.

It could easily meet the needs of a settlement.

The people who died here had probably chosen this place for the same reasons.

After wandering around for a bit,

Zhao Yanqiu returned and said, "No one left; they all chose to stay."

Perhaps, they didn't have better options.

Wu Heng nodded and changed the topic, "Have the people here killed zombies before?"

"Yes, and they've killed quite a few people too," Zhao Yanqiu replied.

"Where are the bodies?"

"I'm not sure, but I know they were all moved to the back."

"Let's go take a look."

Wu Heng, along with a few skeletons and Zhao Yanqiu, headed toward the back of the factory.

Behind the factory was a barren area, with waist-high weeds. In the distance, you could vaguely see a rock garden and a pavilion amidst the overgrowth.

They walked along the only path leading inside.

After some distance, they reached a massive pit.

It was filled with bodies—zombies, humans, and a few naked female corpses.

Wu Heng glanced at it and said to Zhao Yanqiu, "Wait for me outside."

"Alright."

Zhao Yanqiu retreated outside.

Wu Heng stood at the edge of the pit, pulled out his spine staff, and began casting [Battlefield of the Dead].

A grayish-white aura spread out, and one by one, skeletons stood up from the pit, climbing out.

In total, more than three hundred skeletons emerged.

They filled the surrounding area.

Since he was low on troops, he needed to gather them from wherever he could.

In this world, corpses were everywhere.

Leading the skeletons back out, he gave Zhao Yanqiu quite a scare, but seeing they posed no threat to her, she calmly followed along.

They returned to the building together.

......

The sky gradually darkened.

The survivors were resettled into their new accommodations.

Wu Heng chose a room on the top floor and arranged for skeletons to guard key positions.

Zhao Yanqiu's room was one door away from his, and besides handling survivor matters, she was also responsible for monitoring radio communications for any updates from the Auto Repair Shop.

In case anything came up.

Once everything was settled,

Wu Heng opened the portal and returned to his residence on Gold-Silver Island.

......

Upon his return, it was already late.

Wu Heng went downstairs to the hall and asked Chef One to prepare him a late-night snack.

He filled his somewhat empty stomach.

After eating his fill, he was walking up the stairs when,

a door on the third floor quietly opened, and Andviel stepped out, with a gun in one hand behind her back.

As a ranger, she was still quite alert.

"Hungry? Came down for a late-night snack," Wu Heng said.

Andviel put away the gun, "Have you eaten? I can prepare something for you."

"Already eaten."

Wu Heng waved her over, and she obediently came closer, "Let's go to my room. I'm going to freshen up."

Andviel blushed, glanced cautiously at Minnie's room, then hurried up to the fourth floor.

After a quick wash,

he returned to his room.

Andviel had her head half-hidden under the covers, leaving only her eyes exposed, watching nervously from under the blanket.

Wu Heng loved this expression of hers.

Nervous, shy, but eager to try.

Wu Heng pulled back the covers and pinned her beneath him, "Hold me!"

Andviel shyly wrapped her arms and legs around him, moving in sync with him.

After both were drenched in sweat,

they embraced and drifted off to sleep.

......

The next day.

After breakfast, Wu Heng and Andviel headed to the guild together.

After glancing at some documents delivered the day before,

Wu Heng brought the pirate's daughter, Philipa, out of the prison.

Philipa stood in the center of the room.

She was still disheveled, her face and eyes bruised.

"Got into a fight in prison?"

Philipa glanced at him, wiped her dirty face, and said, "That's how pirates solve problems. You wouldn't know if you haven't been one."

"Did you win or lose?"

"A draw."

It seemed she didn't come out on top.

Wu Heng said to Andviel, "Prepare some food for her, make sure there's plenty of meat."

"Alright!" Andviel left.

When Philipa heard there would be food, she instinctively swallowed.

Noticing Wu Heng looking at her, she quickly stopped herself and turned her head away.

Wu Heng asked, "Have the others agreed to leave with you?"

"I've convinced a few of them."

"You need to speed things up. The ship is ready for you, and I plan to let you leave in three days," Wu Heng said.

"Okay! No problem," Philipa nodded.

"By then, I want a list of names. If anyone refuses to go, I'll deal with them along the way," Wu Heng said, looking at her.

"What if I can't be sure?"

"Then kill them too!"

"Alright, you're ruthless!"

At that moment, the door opened.

Andviel came in with some food.

Philipa plopped down on the couch and started shoveling food into her mouth.

After she finished devouring everything,

Wu Heng continued asking, "What's your profession? What level are you?"

"Ranger, level 8."

Wu Heng took another look at her. At her age, reaching level 8 was fairly impressive.

In the guild, this would qualify her as a squad leader.

She had the rank of a squad leader.

Philipa patted her stomach and asked, "Have you sorted out the messaging system? If I can't send out the information, don't blame me."

"I'll arrange something on the ship for you."

"Is it a tool? Let me see it in advance to make sure it works when the time comes." Philipa reclined on the sofa.

"I'll handle it in the next couple of days. Just focus on your job."

"Alright!"

"You've got two days left, make the most of it."

"Got it."

Philipa was escorted away.

Wu Heng gathered his things and returned home.

......

Back home,

Shanaila was sitting in the living room with Minnie, examining a few luxurious-looking nightgowns.

When they saw Wu Heng walk in,

Shanaila immediately clutched one of the gowns to her chest, her face reddening, "Why are you back?"

"Uh, am I not supposed to be back?" Wu Heng looked at the two, puzzled, "What mischief are you up to?"

"Nothing!" Shanaila denied it.

Minnie chuckled and picked up a light yellow nightgown, "Look at Shanaila's nightgown—it's see-through!"

Shanaila panicked, tossing aside the gown in her hand and lunging to grab the one from Minnie.

Wu Heng picked up the discarded one and inspected it.

The fabric was sheer and felt incredibly smooth.

"Give it back, men shouldn't be touching women's things like that," Shanaila reached out to take it from him.

Wu Heng smiled and handed it over, "It suits you."

"Stop talking nonsense." Shanaila blushed even more.

"Hehe! I told you Shanaila likes the boss, see!" Minnie laughed out loud.

Shanaila's face turned even redder as she stood up and tried to cover Minnie's mouth.

Wu Heng picked up another nightgown and examined it.

A silk nightgown, with a rather bold design.

The three of them teased and played around for a while.

Minnie went to the kitchen to ask Chef One to prepare lunch.

Shanaila thought for a moment and said to Wu Heng, "Wu Heng, come with me for a moment."

The two of them headed to the pavilion in the backyard.

Shanaila stood by the pavilion, gazing at the budding flowerbed, and softly said, "You've probably noticed that I'm quite interested in you."

Wu Heng responded, "Mm, so what?"

Shanaila bit her lip and said, "Let me explain it this way—last time, when I was sealed in amber, I was using a special item. It has a side effect, which makes me feel affectionate towards the first person I see after I wake up."
