Chapter 46 - Emergency Dispatch.

KUOH ACADEMY FIELD OPERATIONS – URGENT DISPATCH

Time Stamp: [Local Time, Redacted]

Location: Verdenholt, Southern Edge of the Riftlands

Priority Level: CRIMSON

Issued By: Field Officer Ayane Kurotsuki, Mission Control

Situation Overview:

We are encountering an unexpected large-scale demon incursion in the ruins of Verdenholt.

The assigned student unit was split into four teams of three, each dispatched to survey and secure different sectors of the village ruins. Initial reconnaissance indicated residual mana and passive anomaly fields, but hostile engagement was not predicted. That assumption has now proven inaccurate.

Shortly after entering the ruins, all four teams experienced a sudden spike in ambient mana levels followed by multiple simultaneous attacks from unknown demonic entities.

Team Deployment & Status:

Northern Team: Kiyoshi, Kotaka, Rin

— Status: Unknown.

Eastern Team: Rajieru, Reuel, Giyuu

— Status: Unknown.

Western Team: Celosia, Haruki, Manjiro

— Status: Unknown.

Southern Team: Sanae (Class Representative), Zoltan, Asami

— Status: Failsafe activated. Brute-class demons engaged. Multiple injuries reported. Requesting immediate extraction or reinforcements. Priority team for retrieval.

Threat Assessment:

Enemy combatants include:

Brute-class demons: 8–10 ft, plated, high durability, immense physical strength.

Environmental anomalies: Magical interference fields present, including fog that suppresses visibility and distorts mana perception.

Current student injuries known injuries are non-fatal but significant, with several mana exhaustion cases and blunt-force trauma reported.

Orders & Response:

Field Agents and Staff Units are to mobilize immediately.

Extraction and emergency care must begin with Southern Team.

Containment teams to follow and assess remaining threats.

Continue monitoring for spiritual anomalies or deeper-rank demon presence.

Acknowledge the possibility that this was an organized or lured ambush.

Final Note:

These students are facing their first true combat engagement, and while they've undergone accelerated training, they are outnumbered, outpaced, and emotionally untested in live battle.

Despite this, reports suggest strong leadership initiative is emerging from unexpected corners. Do not underestimate what these students can endure — but do not let them endure it alone.

"Location: Kuoh Academy — Field Operations Command Room."

The room, once quiet save for the occasional mutter of mana readings, shifted the moment the crimson alert flared to life. A sharp ping sounded. The screen above the mana map blinked — then pulsed red.

Failsafe Triggered: Southern Team.

Professor Kagami Arata, head of Kuoh's Field Operations Unit, stepped forward without a word. His fingers moved swiftly over the crystal interface, pulling up the encoded message relayed by the emergency beacon. As the report unfolded in glowing text, his jaw tightened.

"Unexpected large-scale demon incursion... Four teams deployed. Mana surges. Hostile engagement confirmed... Southern Team requesting immediate assistance."

He read on — eyes narrowing as more detail scrolled across the screen.

"Brute-class demons. Multiple student injuries. Failsafe active. Extraction required. All teams currently engaged. High probability of enemy coordination. Environment magically distorted."

Kagami exhaled slowly through his nose. "They're surrounded," he muttered under his breath.

He turned sharply toward the other faculty in the command center. "Get medics and suppression squads prepped. We move in five."

Another teacher — a younger woman named Miss Takane — paled as she leaned closer to the display. "They're just kids," she whispered, her voice cracking. "They weren't supposed to engage yet. This was supposed to be recon..."

"It was." Kagami's tone was grim, but not shaken. "Someone made sure that wouldn't be enough."

He tapped the interface again, isolating each team's location on the map. Blips flickered — faint, unstable. One in the north, two in the east, three barely holding ground in the south. Then there was Team West — their signals flickering erratically.

"No information about Kiyoshi's team..." Miss Takane said, eyes flicking up. "You don't think—?"

"I think," Kagami interrupted, "if they haven't called for help, it's because they can't."

He snapped the mana amplifier up two levels, his voice now broadcast directly to the rapid-response squads waiting in the academy courtyard.

"This is Field Commander Kagami. We've got four teams of students actively engaged in a demonic incursion within Verdenholt. Civilians in the area are likely compromised or already casualties. Expect corrupted terrain, fog interference, and multiple demon classes."

"Team South has initiated their failsafe. That is our breach point. Prepare to deploy. I want all of them back."

He cut the link, staring once more at the pulsing emergency glyph on the display.

"They've trained. Now they bleed," he muttered. "Let's make sure they live long enough to learn from it."
