Chapter 38 - Chapter 38: War For Throne(3)

Silence.

The two armies were standing still, waiting patiently for the orders of their leaders, tension was palpable in the air, as this battle would decide the ruler worthy of the throne.

Wren and Nephis were staring at each other eyes.

And then...

"CHARGE!" They shouted at the same time.

Just from a single command, all hell broke loose.

People ran towards each other, swords clashed swords, and arrows pierced the throats of enemies.

Whatever the outcome will be, blood will be shed today but the fight will not stop, not until one of the two leaders falls.

The killing was an option they all chose not to do, only when their hands were tied to do it because their enemy could become a potential future ally.

Sunny was the first one to avoid it because he had done his work, so staying in the shadows was a comfortable option for him.

'Fools...They are all fools. They want to escape this place and here they are fighting each other.'

He thought as he watched the handmaidens subduing soldiers, Seishan surely had built a perfect legion for her to command.

'I wonder if he would let her live or not?' He thought.

Sunny knew who was stronger among the two, if one thing that could defeat Wren was underhanded things, though even those needed to be thoroughly prepared.

'I will leave these guys behind, after I escape this hellish place.' He rested his head on the wall, suddenly something moved towards him at high speed.

-swish!

Sunny instinctively tilted his head to the right.

'Damnation.'

Something struck right beside his head, it was an arrow. From how deep it had embedded into the wall, it showed that the intention behind it was to pierce through the enemy.

For some reason, the arrows looked familiar to Sunny. Thinking a little hard, he realised it.

'Kai, you damn bastard!' Sunny gritted his teeth.

A little far away from the wall where Sunny was standing, Kai lowered his bow and raised his brows in confusion.

'Strange...I sensed something there.' He thought as he lodged another arrow on his bow, and launched it at the shoulder of one of the castle guards.

For him, things had escalated too much.

Everyone chose their sides, and so did he. If he had to shed blood he would, however deep in his heart, he didn't wanted things to take a path like this.

Nephis and Wren, both of them were wrong, but who was more wrong? He couldn't tell it.

He just believed in his instincts and chose to side with Nephis, however, he wondered why Sunny was fighting against them.

Heck, he wondered where his friend was.

Far away, Effie was dealing with multiple enemies at once, her shield and her spear memory were doing their work as she swung them.

Throwing many enemies back, resulted in more incoming. She had no time to give to her thoughts, all she could do was wreak havoc.

Everyone was busy fighting with their lives on line for only two people, Wren and Nephis.

But where were they?

Nephis and Wren looked at each other across the battlefield, their eyes burning with killing intent.

Wren had turned his mask into twin daggers.

Pointing one of them in her direction, he smirked before he dashed at her.

Nephis did the same.

At the moment, their blades clashed, Wren grinned.

"What is this Changing Star? You are going all out from the start? Hahahaha." He laughed as he kicked her in the stomach, creating distance.

Nephis was fighting him with her full power, the white flames wreathing her sword were destructive, enough that they corroded the blade of his daggers.

If she is fighting him with this much intent to kill, then he should have the courtesy to show half of it.

He activated his Aspect.

His eyes turned in a heterochromia of pitch black and grey, the thoughts of killing everyone here flowed in his mind, but he blocked it.

Nephis who noticed the sudden change in his eyes, became more cautious, and her stance changed.

She was going to kill him today.

As for Wren, both of his clawed handguards dissolved into chains that wrapped around his arms.

"Come forth Nephilim! Let's dance together in the song of death." He shouted as he dashed at her.

The two of them clashed. Wren blocked the sword with his arms, the blade of light wasn't able to pierce the chains made out of pure darkness.

But the heat burned his flesh, Nephis forced more power in her flames, trying to melt down the skin and bones in the arm.

Disappointment.

Wren was feeling disappointment in her, she had already cut his arm once, and now she wants to do it again.

He used his hand as a sacrifice to grab Nephis by her hair, and with force, he pulled her.

The sudden movement disrupted her balance but Nephis didn't care as she swung her sword through the gap between his wrapped chains.

Her sword was supposed to cut that arm clean off, but why...why... was her sword stuck in his arm?

"You...are such a disappointment." Wren growled as he punched her, the blow landed straight at her throat.

Even if her Aspect can heal her, it can't help her with breathing. The punch had blocked her air tract, the feeling was surely not good.

In a second, dizziness attacked her brain, but she didn't let go of her sword, her will was far more superior than it.

Looking at her struggling, Wren pulled the sword stuck in his arm, his expression was stoic but the veins bulging in his neck betrayed that expression.

'Just what is this will that keeps you moving on?' He thought while gritting his teeth, the concept of will was something he couldn't understand.

What is the point of this will, if it can be crushed by power?

Maybe he will get the answer from her today.

Nephis finally regained her senses, but before she could go again to fight, her followers stood in front of her.

"Oh, protecting your queen right now?" Wren said with slight amusement.

The followers were shuddering from the inside but they didn't show it, one of them shouted:

"We will lay our lives to protect Lady Nephis!"

Wren's eyes glinted with dark glee.

"So be it." He said as he swung his chains.

Far away, Selina and a hanging Cassie stood alone in silence.

"Quite a view, isn't it?" Selina asked, however, no answer came from Cassie, as she didn't possess the ability to speak, well she couldn't even see things.

However, Selina had made sure that her sense of hearing and smell worked fine, she needed a good audience after all.

"You know Cassie, I wonder how far you have seen in the future with your sacred aspect?" Selina asked.

She watched the battlefield, people dying even after all of them tried to minimise the killing as much as possible.

Wren could be seen wreaking havoc from here, it was quite a scene where he had been swinging people and throwing them around like a rag doll.

"Let's have a small conversation, shall we?" Selina flicked her finger, and then the darkness moving around Cassie's body healed the nerves that allowed her to talk.

"How do you know it?" Cassie's voice was weak and dry, but it still held poison.

At her words, Selina chuckled.

"The Spell told me." She spoke.

Her words made Cassie fall silent, perhaps she was contemplating something, or maybe she was just too shocked.

"Just what are you? No, not just you, but what is Wren?"

That was Cassie's next question, which made Selina quite amused.

'What a peculiar question.'

But even she didn't have an answer for it, apart from him being related to the Void, that has been the most mysterious thing in the novel.

"Well, I am a normal person, as for Wren, I guess he is a normal person too." She replied with a normal voice.

Cassie who was hanging on the wooden cross, was stunned.

'Him? A normal person? You? A normal person? Both of you ar-'

-booooommmmm!

Before she could finish her thoughts, a loud sound echoed throughout the battlefield and everyone who was fighting stopped.

Selina's eyes widened.

'He has done it.'

Wren had defeated the Changing Star of the Immortal Flame Clan.

The last sound had created a huge crater in the floor, walking out of it was Wren and in his hand, he was holding Nephis by her throat.

Just as he had walked out, the Changing Star made her last attempt, it seemed that her will was still burning furiously.

She weakly raised her sword to attack his throat, but Wren had enough.

He grabbed her arm, and then he opened his mouth, something was materialising on his teeth.

It was fangs.

He bit on her wrist.

And then...

Changing Star of the Immortal Flame Clan had let out a guttural and inhuman scream, laced with pain and agony because...

Wren had ripped out her whole arm.

So revenge is done. How was it? Also, I am thinking of writing the next chapter from his perspective, it would be good.

Do tell me your thoughts.

See you on next Sat.

Bye Bye~~
