Chapter 21 - The Bodyguard Work.

"You've done well bringing back the intruders but having the audacity to make yourself to be forced here..." The great elder said as he moved away from Ethan.

Clap! Clap!

Flame torches came on as the great elder clapped. He moved closer to a throne-like chair and there he sat. Ethan looked around at the masked faces around who sat as the council of elders."For now, I can't feel any lumaflux from you. I wonder how you were able to defeat two mid-rank chronarchs." The great elder said and stood up again. In the next second, the great elder was already behind Ethan. Ethan didn't even have the time to react as the great elder touched his shoulders.

[Lightning Metamorphosis: Poisonous substance detected.]

[Lightning Metamorphosis is nullifying all effects of poisonous substance.]

[Lightning Metamorphosis has successfully nullified poisonous substance.]

"Does the system work outside of the game?" Ethan questioned himself as the system showed up. But now what he thought of was that which poisonous substance was the great elder trying to put in his body. He played along as he pretended as if the poisonous substance had actually entered his body."I'm sure you've now felt the poison. I'll like to watch your movements for now. So, start by being a bodyguard to Cresta over there." The great elder pointed at Cresta who had frowned. "Now, you can leave." The great elder ordered and Cresta hesitatingly moved to Ethan's side and crushed another pebble which teleported them out of the room.

***"

They're back!"

"Yeah, by why is he holding a sword?"

"Did he think he could go up against the elders?"

"Such a daydream..."

"I didn't even realize I'd drawn out my sword." Ethan thought and sheathed the Eclipsing Fang. The crowd complained about Ethan's behavior and he'd realized it by himself that it was a good action to have brought the sword in public but he'd done it on impulse when he got targeted by the "flurry of daggers."

Apart from that, there was something that baffled Ethan's mind, Why would someone that strong stoop to such low tricks? Though the game's system had cleared the effect of the poison it wasn't as if he could still go up against the great elder who was almost as strong as Shawn. "Was this also a different quest from the system he'd to complete? But there were no pop-ups and this made Ethan's problem more complicated.

He couldn't just run out of town because he didn't know around and neither could he fight his way out as the people were mostly stronger than him. There was only one thing he could do now; comply to the orders of "The great elder"

"Come to think of it, he said he couldn't feel any lumaflux from me." Ethan thought as a message popped up.

[All energy within player has been suppressed due to user's instinct by the skill: Eclipse walk.]

"Oh! I'd wanted to suppress my power so that no one knew my true strength." Ethan whispered to himself. All this while as Ethan was lost in his thoughts Cresta had teleported away and he now had to track down her lumaflux signatures to find her.***Ethan sat at the entrance ouf a big house made of unique wood which leaked with some lumaflux. It was the specially built house for the granddaughter of "The great elder."- Lady Cresta. Ethan thought of what the great elder said, "...to be the guard of Cresta..." But what was he going to guard Cresta from? There were no grimlpres in the town and Ethan hadn't sensed anything bad happening except for the feeling of some hidden people who seem to be watching his every move. To relieve himself of the boredom he called up his stats window.

As Ethan still looked through his stats, Cresta came out. "Lady Cresta." Ethan greeted but Cresta didn't even attempt to look at Ethan's face as she just walked out of the house. Ethan just followed behind Cresta a few meters away as Cresta had once warned him no to get near her.

Why did she look at Ethan that way? Ethan could feel the familiarity between that of Cresta's eyes and that of the people who mocked for not having a lexicon in school but he was now chill with it and therefore he also ignored it.

Though a few knew about Ethan's awakened lexicon it was still a classified data in the military and so no one else was allowed to speak of it outside. "Where to, lady Cresta?" Ethan asked politely but was shocked at the response he got from Cresta, "You must always be a 100meters away from me." "Yes,Lady Cresta." Ethan saidand slowed down increasing the distance between him and Cresta.

"I don't need someone without a lexicon guarding me! I'd rather fight to fight than do so?" Ethan remembered Cresta shout at him in the midst of a crowd whiles Ethan followed her across town. Later on, Ethan learnt that amongst the youth of Duskfall - the great assassin city, Cresta was the strongest lexicon user ranked first of all but the great elder just wanted to make fun of Ethan and therefore made Ethan her guard.

Why would someone just want to make another person a laughingstock? Ethan had no option but to comply since the great elder was overly stronger than him.

"Is he still following lady Cresta?"

"After all that happened yesterday?"

"...just stupid."

"...he has to be taught a lesson."

Ethan's keen sense of hearing enabled him to hear all what those around were whispering to each other. It was also because of the help of the five dragon senses which had elevated his normal sense to the level of a superhuman.

"It's still good as they don't know about my true strength. Now, I'm at least a Synthex Adept rank in the Scriptweaver's rank and Runewarden amongst the Chronarch's rank." Ethan thought. "Oh lady Cresta! Can I walk you around." A teenage boy just about Ethan's age said jokingly to Cresta.

"Isn't that fourth rank?"

"Yeah, that's him. Cyril, the war physco."

"Always joking around..."

Ethan heard the people around say. He had a brown disheveled hair, a pointed a nose and small eyes with bright pink lips all complimenting his round face. He was 5.9ft tall with long athletic legs and barely muscular.

When Ethan saw him move closer to Cresta he attempted moving forward but Cresta turned to glare at him. Instantly, Ethan stopped Why did she look at Ethan that way? "What was that look for?" Ethan questioned himself. He hadn't done any wrong but the look on Cresta's race was telling him, I don't ever want you near me." And Ethan already had the knack to know someone's thoughts just by their looks. " I don't think she'll need my help." Ethan said to himself and turned to go back to the house but stopped as he could hear specially trained footsteps approaching at high speed.

"It's great the demon blood dynasty!" Someone from the crowd shouted. Before he could turn back again, the attacks were already at their destination—Cresta. "You don't need to get worked up." Cyril said to Cresta who stayed calm. Instantly, a brown furry lexicon materialized in front of Cyril as he grew more fur like a gorilla on his skin and a golden staff manifested in his hands with two other golden wristbands also on his wrists.

"Come!" Cyril shouted as if he was in a battle frenzy.
