The next morning, things were pretty tense. As I made breakfast I could feel Ochako stare at my back apparently still not satisfied with my answer concerning Katsumi, thankfully Nejire had been around me enough to know that I wasn't going to say anything else on the matter and was busy bombarding Tsuyu with questions about her quirk.
As Ryukyu entered the kitchen she sensed the tense atmosphere but said nothing as she prepared her breakfast as well. We ate in silence before Ryukyu finally said "I don't know what happened, but resolve it before it becomes an issue." After that she finished her food before leaving the rest of us in silence.
Later Ryukyu called us all to her office to discuss the big operation that she had briefly mentioned before. "I don't have all the details, but recently Sir Nighteye's agency has been investigating a yakuza group known as the Shie Hassaikai, and their leader Overhaul. A raid has been planned and we have been called in to assist, specifically me and Carter to help with stronger villains that may pose a threat."
Tsuyu raised her hand "Why are we participating? We're only students." she asked as Nejire spoke up "It's because you have a provisional heroes license, therefore you will be participating in the operation, though you will mostly be helping evacuate civilians." she said "Principal Nezu has already cleared you and has given his permission for you to join, a few other classmates of yours should be at the briefing today as well." Ryukyu nodded as Tsuyu settled back down.
"Why did they ask for me and you specifically?" I asked. "I'm going to be more of a deterrent than anything, but Nighteye might put you on the inside since you can partially transform, but he should go over that during the briefing." Ryukyu said. "Any more questions? No, then let's go!" and they were off to the briefing.
Once we reached Sir Nighteye's agency, we sat down in the conference room as more heroes and police arrived. Just as Ryukyu said, others from class 1-A were present, that being Izuku and Kirishima, with Tamaki and Mirio present as well. With Ryukyu's permission Tsuyu and Ochako went to sit with Izuku though I stayed by her side, "Don't wanna sit with your friends?" she asked as Nighteye finally appeared, "I'm here to work, not make friends." I said as Nighteye cleared his throat.
"Greetings everyone, and thank you for coming. Let's get right to is then, a little while ago, the League of Villains had a meeting with someone from a local yakuza group, the Shie Hassaikai, the meeting went badly as we discovered blood at the scene, but further investigation into the yakuza has revealed that they are the manufactures of the most recent batches of a quirk enhancing drug called, Trigger." He explained as a slide show appeared, several shady figures with the same tattoo marking them as Hassaikai, as well a picture of men in beak masks and another picture of red vials in a lab.
"The Shie Hassakai is currently led by a man known as Overhaul." he continued as his picture appeared, "And with him are his lieutenants, the Eight Bullets. They will be the biggest challenge in the coming raid." more pictures of more people, all in plague doctor masks just like Overhaul. "They also have another drug in their possession, one that erases quirks. My intern lost his quirk for several days after a run-in with thugs using these special bullets." Fatgum the pro hero that Tamaki was interning with said as he passed around a picture of a bullet that looked just like the vials in the lab photo.
"Now if they were just making Trigger the police would have been enough, but a few days ago two of my work study students ran into this girl." He said a picture of a little girl in bandages appeared. She was small, very frail with white hair and a small horn, barely a nub on her forehead. "We believe that this girl, named Eri, is the main ingredient of the quirk erasing bullets, this is not just a drug busting op, but a rescue operation to save her."
As the meeting went on, I paid less and less attention though I got the jist of it, break into the compound, don't get hit by the quirk erasers and save Eri. Though I did notice that Izuku kept circling back to Eri in his head, 'I should have stepped in. I should have saved her. I won't fail this time!' with Mirio's thoughts mirroring his as they seemed to have let Overhaul take Eri right from under their noses.
As the meeting drew to a close Nighteye walked up to me "Hello Mr. Bate, a shame we must meet in such dire circumstances." he said in english as I shook his hand, "Just Carter is fine sir." "Very well, now I understand that you have enhanced senses and limited physic abilities, yes?" he asked as I narrowed my eyes, "Yes, is there a problem?" I asked but he shook his head. "No on the contrary, I want you to be our wildcard. You see one of the members of the Eight Bullets has a quirk that lets him shift the terrain around him. If you could keep him busy it would make things easier for the other teams going for Overhaul."
"So you just want me to run in and make a mess of things?" I asked with a small smile as Nighteye snorted "In a manner of speaking yes, even though we know where the compound is, we don't have much information about the inside or basement of it, so if you could just keep an eye on all the teams and help those who need it, I would really appreciate it." he said and I nodded "Yeah I can do that, you want prisoners though right?" and he nodded very seriously "Yes, try to be a little more gentle on them, I'm not sure they could handle the beating you gave All for One."
OUTSIDE THE SHIE HASSAIKAI COMPOUND---
As the various teams and police spread out along the perimeter of the Shie Hassaikai compound, I could feel various presences watching us. No doubt the yakuza already knew we were here, but a few felt farther away, most likely foundation agents sent to keep an eye on me, maybe a cultist or two but I'm sure their leader is keeping them on a leash. As the SWAT team approached the front gate I felt something rush towards us, "INCOMING!" I yelled as a massive unit of a man burst through the gate, taking it and the officers with it as he threw himself at us. BAM! he didn't get far though as Ryukyu swiftly turned into her dragon form as they started fighting, tearing us the fence and street as they fought.
As Ryukyu deals with the big guy the rest of the teams rush into the compound, the yakuza spring out from cover, some wielding firearms and others using quirks to slow us down. Forming scales around me I throw myself into the fray, even with several quirks and automatic weapons turned against me, my invulnerability spell carries me through as I vent more anger onto these unfortunate souls.
As more and more thugs fall Sir Nighteye leads me and his team down into the tunnels beneath the house, where Overhaul has used his quirk to make them nearly impassable, but we plow right through everything as we search for Eri. As they go one of the Eight Bullets uses his quirk to drop Tamaki, Kirishima, Fatgum and a few officers down a level as me and Izuku are busy breaking down walls that hide more passages behind them. "Keep going! We'll handle this!" Fatgum yells as he slips down and we keep pushing.
As they plow through more villains Mimic (One of the eight Bullets) sees Eraserhead and deems him a threat to Overhaul, so he uses his quirk and sends him down to Tamaki and the others are with Carter getting grabbed as well. As they land they find Tamaki and the officers facing off against a trio of yakuza with powerful quirks, with them barely holding on. Seeing them struggling, Eraserhead cancels their quirks out but they only pause for a second to draw weapons and continue fighting.
Seeing as Suneater and Erasehead have everything mostly under control, I open my mind to the voices of those here to try and see who needs help. Nighteye, Izuku and Mirio are still chasing Overhaul, a bunch of officers are still fighting on the upper levels, Ryukyu has almost got the big guy beaten down- oh here we go! A level below me I hear Fatgum, Redriot and two other minds battling it out, or rather Fatgum is fighting and Kirishima is having an existential crisis after getting his strongest move beaten, guess I'd better go fix that.
Partially transforming, my body which was already covered with hard black scales changed, now I had increased the thickness of the scales, but my arms and legs were that of a dragons as the scales slowly crept up and stopped right below my jaw as horns sprouted from my head. Feeling the fire within I called on it, and blasted the floor beneath my feet, heating it up for a few moments before I raised my fist and SLAM crashed down right in front of Kirishima who had managed to pick himself back up, though he looked pretty rough with his facemask being cracked.
"W-where did you come from?" he asked, "From the ceiling, could hear your whiny thoughts and decided to lend a hand." I said as I caught Fatgum, who was a noticeable few pounds lighter as he was thrown back by a particularly nasty hit from another of the Eight Bullets, Kendo Rappa. "Oh, here to join in the fun?" Kendo asked as his partner threw up another shield, "No, I'm here to end it." I said as I flew forward slamming my fist into his gut as he flew back several feet. "Damn kid you pack quite a punch!" he gasped as his partner Hikiji Tengai threw a barrier around me, "You will do no such thing." he says as I raise an eyebrow at him.
"And what makes you think my allies won't go for you now that you have a barrier around me." I ask, deciding to humor him as I place my hand on the barrier testing how strong it is, I find it lacking. Hikiji laughs as Kendo slowly gets to his feet, "They will do nothing, Fatgum will not last forever and the other has already been broken, they are useless to save you." he sneers as I turn and look at Fatgum and Kirishima, tired, battered but still alight with determination, ready to fight, though it seems Kirishima needs a bit of a push.
As Hikiji slowly shrinks the barrier trying to crush me with it, I look Kirishima in the eyes and point at him, "You who claim to be unbreakable, witness true strength. Learn from it." I tell him as the barrier gets stopped by my horns. With slow deliberate movements, I turn back and face Hikiji and grin with all my teeth, and swing. BOOM!! Though he reinforced it at the last second seeing and hearing what I was planning, the barriers still didn't hold up as I shattered it, with air pressure created from the force throwing him off his feet though Kendo remained standing.
Turning back to Kirishima and Fatgum who's now recovered, "The name Red Riot isn't for the untested. It's for the ones who've been bent, battered, and still choose to stand. You don't earn it by being unbreakable — you earn it by never staying broken." I say cringing slightly 'I'm talking like those old geezers now.' 'HA HA HAAAA!' The voice cackles as Kirishima finally faces off with Kendo as I take Fatgum back up to where Eraserhead and Suneater have dealt with the yakuza trio, though now sporting fresh wounds. "Redriot is downstairs earning his name, he should be fine." I say as I rush back to where I last heard Nighteye and company are still being messed with by Mimic.
I reached them after a bit since Mimic kept trying to throw walls in my way, so I just broke them down as I finally reached a portion of the tunnel that Rocklock had stabilized with his quirk. "How are the other teams?" Nighteye asks and I give him an update before perking up, "What, more villains?" he asked and I nod, "League of Villains to be exact, Twice and Toga." I say as I look at Izuku "That crazy girl is hoping that you'll be here for some reason." I say and he groans "She wants my blood." he complains as I hear another interesting thought, "Well you got another girl thinking of you right now if that makes you any happier." I say and he turns red already knowing who I'm talking about.
"Focus, they're right here." Nighteye calls Twice and Toga round the corner and skids to a halt. "SHIT IT'S THAT SCARY DRAGON! Think he'll give us an autograph!" "Ah~ Izuku~ I missed you and your pretty bloood~" already getting a headache I rush forward only for the ceiling to slam down on me. "Yikes he's going right for us!" Twice yells as he makes a double of Kendo which starts fighting Lemillion and Deku. Switching to my Icewing form I freeze the pillar of concrete trapping me before smashing it to bits as Toga's knife sparks harmlessly off my scales, "Aw dang it, I can't make you bleed." she pouts as she ducks under a tail swipe.
Behind me Nighteye steps in and makes quick work of the Kendo clone before turning on Twice, with the both of us pushing them back as Lemillion and Deku fight off the thugs that tried to jump Rocklock, the only one keeping Mimic from crushing us at the moment. "This ain't a fair fight, I'm outta here!" Twice yells as he makes a clone of Kendo which rushes us as he and Toga get away. we jump back as the wall tries to crush us again as Duku ties up the last thug, "Anyway you can find Mimic, with him gone we'll be able to get to Overhaul much quicker, 'And rescue Eri.' Deku and Lemillion think at the same time. "Yeah I can find him, he might be a little burnt though." I say as I open my mind and listen.
It takes a full minute but I finally find Mimic in the walls. He's been doing the exact same thing as me apparently since he keeps circling around the teams we have underground while also following a trail leading away from the conflict, most likely Overhaul making his escape. "Found him." I say as I feel him move to the ceiling above us. As he pauses to try and crush us again I lunge upwards, transforming fully into my Icewing form though I shift to Nightwing mid flight so as to not kill him with the cold. Totally unprepared to be attacked by a dragon, Mimic can do little as I smash through the ceiling and grasp him and yank him out of his hiding spot.
As I land I hand over the shocked Mimic to the others who swiftly knock him out and shackle with quirk cancelling handcuffs. "Now that Mimic is out of the picture we can get to Overhaul, let's move." Nighteye says as we start moving towards the bottom of the basement. As we get closer Mirio suddenly dashes forward "Lemillion NO!" Nighteye yells, "Go after him, He's going to get himself killed." he says snapping to me and I nod before taking off after him.
As I smash through walls that Mirio just phased through, I find two knocked out villains and several bullet casings on the floor, with sounds of fighting in the next room. Moving in I find Lemillion fighting for his life against Overhaul and his lieutenant, Chronostasis. I watch as he phases through bullets and spikes thrown at him as he tries his best to protect Eri who he has in his arms, so I decide to lend a hand.
'Marksmen then the big guy.' I think as I flap my wings rocketing towards Chrono and throw myself to the ground. It matters little though as my tail slams into him, he manages to reach out and smack my wings with his hand however as his quirk takes effect and I feel everything slow down. "This is the price of your arrogance." he declares as he levels his gun at me and fires, "NO CARTER!" Lemillion yells but is unable to intervene as Overhauls presses the advantage.
As the quirk cancelling bullet slowly approaches, Nighteye and the others run in and their faces drop as they see what appears to be the end of a young hero's career, but as all in the room watch, the bullet hits me right in the side and shatters. "What, that's impossible?!" Chrono and Overhaul are surprised as their minds go over how the design and materials of the bullet were designed to pierce even quirks like Kirishima's. Seeing it didn't work the first time Chrono fires again, and I smile as I remove the spell that increases my durability and watch with satisfaction as the bullet hits my skin and blood is drawn.
"Finally, now you should feel your quirk leaving you." he says as Nighteye and Duku rush to assist though Overhaul attacks them while still paying attention. Seeing his elation I feel a twinge of anger but instead of lashing out, I smile at him much to his confusion. "Break." Freedom, now his quirk is useless, I think as I stand and wipe the blood off my costume as the wound slowly heals, not at all affected by the bullets' quirk -erasing properties.
Seeing me heal Chrono panics and fires more rounds that all draw blood, but instead of feeling pain, I smile even wider as I slowly transform into the Darkstalker. "That shouldn't be possible, your quirk should have been erased!" Chronostasis yells as Overhaul lands near him having been pushed back by a triple assault from Duku, Lemillion and Nighteye with Rocklock guarding Eri.
"Yes, it does work." I tell the confused Chrono as I finish my transformation, "On humans." I say with glee as I spread my wings towering over everyone. "Looks like those lunatics were right about something huh." Overhaul groans as he slowly gets up, "You aren't human at all are you?" he asks and I smile, not a pretty or reassuring sight in my current form. I continue to smile as defiance flares within Overhaul's mind, and I do nothing as he reaches out and grabs Chronostasis by the shoulder and activates his quirk, ripping them and the floor around them apart.
I step back as the rock beneath me surges into the mess that is now Overhaul, having fused himself, Chrono and whatever was in reach to become a massive grotesque monster that is as large as I am. as its transformation ends it roars in pain, and charges at me but I don't back down and instead blast it with fire. To my surprise though Overhaul is still conscious enough to absorb the fire and make the monster even more dangerous as we smash through spikes leftover from his fight with Lemillion, who now spectates the fight alongside the others.
As the fight drags on I hear the rest of the teams slowly get close to us as the monsters strength starts to wane, in a desperate gambit it lunges for Eri batting away Lemillion and Rocklock, Nighteye throws himself between them and gets a spike through the chest for his troubles as he's thrown away. Chasing after them I stop, Overhaul has taken so much from this area that its starting to collapse, I feel it all start to shake and parts of wall crumble beneath the rampage of a quirk created monster and a dragon, not to mention Deku smashing things around as he hold Her tight in his arms.
I switch to my Icewing form and start blasting frostbreath to reinforce the walls with ice, though Overhaul and Deku aren't helping as their brawl escalates. Enraged at still not being able to get to Eri, Overhaul roars and finally grabs Deku as they crash into the ceiling and I rush over to keep everything from crashing down as they take to the air. It seems that whatever quirk Eri has has also activated as Deku starts whaling on Overhaul with power that reaches what All Might puts out as I hear his tendons breaking again and again.
'A healing quirk then, and a powerful one at that.' I think as I sense Eri's panic from her own quirk being used, as I finish reinforcing the area the rest of the heroes burst in "Take care of them, I'm going up there." I tell them before taking to the air and soaring through the hole left behind by the pair battling it out in the sky. As I race towards them I see Ryukyu, Froppy and Uravity staring up at the battle though they wisely refrain from joining, 'they would just get in the way.'
Reaching Overhaul I blast him with frostbreath but he blocks in with his arm before throwing it back at me, I dodge swerving before crashing into him, tearing at stone and flesh with claws and teeth as I feel him try and rip my body apart with his quirk, but I've already put a spell back on the makes all his efforts go to waste. Not to be outdone Deku shines like a star as he punches and kicks Overhauls monstrous body as I rip pieces off and throw them down so that he has less and less to work with.
With a roar of pain he finally crashes to the ground, exposing his original body. I'm about to dive down but Deku beats me to it, kicking the air and rearing his fist back as Eri's quirk surrounds him with an almost angelic glow. "SSMMAASSHH!!" he yells as he punches Overhaul in the face. Despite me wanting his head to explode, Overhaul somehow manages to wake up enough to gather a small shield over his, small but enough to keep the damage from being fatal as he collapses.
I touch down a few feet from Izuku who is still holding Eri in his arms, both look ready to pass out but Eri's power continues to climb, some of it reaches Overhaul who snaps awake and tries one last hail Mary attack, but both quirks are cancelled out as Eraserhead arrives and cancels all three quirks, and they all pass out.
"How are you still a dragon?" He asks as the police and medics swarm over to tend to them, "Who said I was human?" I shoot back and he looks surprised for a moment before shrugging, as he walks away Ryukyu walks over with Nejire,Tsuyu and Ochako right behind her. "Good job Carter, you performed well." she says before moving on to help move prisoners. Nejire of course immediately starts bombarding me with questions about how my side of the operation went, but I tune her and the others out as I think, "Damn, all this action and it's not even lunch time."
