Chapter 374 - Protesting Wolves

(Third Person POV)

[King's Landing]

"What is this I hear about Viserra's betrothal being called off?" Aemon asked as he sat down in the Small Council Table, "Father....."

Jaehaerys was sitting down, "In order to avoid any sort of conflict, we have no choice but to avoid Drakken's Ire." He said seriously, "He already gave me a clear warning, being awfully reasonable about the matter. He clearly stated that Viserra was off-limits."

"Hm." Aemon said as he looked down, "It appears that out of everyone, he seemed to take a fancy to Viserra....."

"Viserra had ties to the Trinity." Baelon, who was sitting across from Aemon, "Prior to the new laws that were passed, allowing the worship of that religion, she was already a member."

"Along who else, I wonder." Aemon muttered

"Brother, my point is.....Viserra had already been established to be a servant of the Trinity." Baelon said, "I never took her to be a religious girl, but it appears that she did in fact go that route, especially with the Trinity."

Jaehaerys cleared his throat, "I did send a message to House Stark." He said, "Informing the of the situation. I do want to resolve this peacefully; the last thing I want is for another conflict to arise. We cannot afford such things these days. We don't have the gold, the resources, to fund another war. The people need their livelihood, their safety, their homes, their food, and their lives. If another conflict arises, I cannot guarantee that they will survive."

The Grand Maester looked at a letter, "We received a letter from Winterfell." He said, "It appears Lord Stark does not seem to take the news well. He had requested to meet and discuss this thoroughly."

Baelon raised an eyebrow, "Hm." He said, "Do they intend to come here?"

"It appears so." The Grand Maester nodded, "The Northerners are not the type of folks to come down South that often. They must take this very seriously."

Jaehaerys sighed, "I imagined as such." He said, "We should tread lightly. Drakken is in a good mood as of lately. He doesn't seem threatened at all by the North, but that doesn't mean that he won't do anything to them."

"He never once looked in that direction." Aemon noted, "In the years he's been terrorizing the Realm, the North has been rather unharmed by his wrath."

"Not just the North." Baelon spoke up, "The Iron Islands, The Reach, and The Westerlands have been pretty free of his destruction. Although, the Reach did get a bit of a taste."

"It appears that House Tyrell and House Hightower, the main powers in the Reach, want to keep him as happy as possible." The Grand Maester said, "My fellow Maesters in the Citadel have stated that Drakken had threatened them on multiple occasions, forcing them to bend the rules of the institution in order to house the Lady Maegelle and their daughter, Vaella."

"Hm..." Jaehaerys said, "I am aware of that."

"Not like it is a bad thing. "The Grand Maester continued, "For the sake of knowledge and research, the Archmaesters have allowed her treatment of the afflicted and thousands of innocents have been saved. They have made quite the progress, I must say. House Hightower holds Maegelle in high regard, and they treat her better than one would treat Royalty."

Jaehaerys nodded, "I would imagine so."

"What are we to do about House Stark?" Baelon asked

"We accept the meeting." Jaehaerys said, "We have no choice but to call Drakken. I leave that to you, Baelon. Have Alyssa send a letter, she seems to be the one who is his favor."

"Right...." Baelon said

"We need to be careful." Aemon said, "If House Stark comes all the way down, they will probably be running into a trap."

"That won't happen." Jaehaerys said, "I don't think Drakken really cares much about spilling Northerner blood..."

"But who knows....."

[Harrenhal]

"Papa!" Astorias hugged Drakken's head as he was sitting on the steps, trying to read a letter, "Let's play!!"

Drakken was looking at the letter, "I am trying to read this..." He muttered, "Astorias....don't cover my face...."

Astorias climbed atop his shoulder and began to hug his head, "Papa! Let's go!" She said as she laughed, "Up! We fly!"

"Not now, darling." Drakken said as he tried to move her arm from his eyes, "Papa is busy....."

"Now! Now!" Astorias slapped him on the head, "We fly! Big grey dragon!"

As this happened, Maegelle was walking up to them while holding hands while she walked, "Astorias." She said, "Let your father read the letter, you are pressed tightly against him."

"Fly, fly!" She said as she pointed up

Maegelle let go of Vaella's hand and the girl walked over to Drakken, immediately hugging his lap with a warm smile.

Drakken looked at her with a smile, "Ah, my beautiful girl." He said as he patted her head, "What are you up to?"

"I want to fly on the dragon." She said

"Hm...." I said, "My Vaella, beauty incarnate, your sentences are properly arranged. Your mind is developing quite rapidly, so your speech is improving. I am quite impressed, dear. It is much better than Riktor or Sylas at your age."

Vaella smiled, "Yes."

"Papa!" Astorias shouted, "Dragon!"

"As for this one..." Drakken muttered, "I am sure her intelligence is equal to yours....but she doesn't seem to care and speaks as crudely as she desires...."

Maegelle chuckled, "Look at this...." She said with a warm smile, "Your two daughters, being shown affection by you. It is quite the sight, Drakken...."

"Hm." Drakken closed his eyes, "There is a problem, Maegelle."

Maegelle frowned, "What is it?"

Drakken showed her the letter, "House Stark is protesting the fact that I won't allow Viserra to marry." He said seriously, "They want to discuss it. Your sister, Alyssa, wrote to me in order to let me know."

"Oh." Maegelle said, "House Stark wants Viserra...."

"I don't know if they want Dragons...." Drakken said, "But judging by their history, they don't want your Father to go back on their word so they're going to have something to say about it."

"What are you going to do?" Maegelle asked

"I'm going to tell them that Viserra is off-limits." Drakken said as he pried Astorias off his head and sat her on his lap, "And if they want to do something about it, I suppose violence is needed."

"Yes!!" Astorias shouted as she raised her arms, "Blood! Death to our enemies!"

Maegelle frowned, "Where did you learn to say such things, Astorias?"

Astorias smirked, "Papa."

Maegelle sighed, "Of course."

Drakken smirked as well, "She is my daughter, my blood." He said, "Of course....."

"She'll want to be like me."
