After the human army finished clearing out the three major undead legions, the path ahead became unobstructed. In just a short time, they advanced ten kilometers.
They had now completed one-third of the thirty-kilometer sea of corpses and blood that made up the undead tide.
In the distance, the colossal shadow beside the Dark Abyss remained motionless, seemingly helpless against the Ancient Capital's legion.
The million-strong battle raged on. The thousands of mages on the outskirts looked weary.
Crash~ Rain suddenly began to fall from the sky, washing over the battlefield littered with corpses, dispersing some of the putrid stench and the thick smell of blood.
"Oooaaa!"
Just as the group reached the ten-kilometer boundary, a bell-like wail echoed from the far edge of the horizon.
Han Ji and the rest of the Super Mage regiment squinted through the drizzling rain, and to their shock, they spotted a skeletal creature with sky-covering bone wings gliding along the edge of the clouds...
Its figure grew larger and larger, its speed surpassing several times the speed of sound. What was once a speck in the sky expanded into a shadow hundreds of meters long. Its wings spread wide like a curtain of hanging clouds, resembling a massive, drifting thundercloud.
At first, the thousands-strong mage force paid it no mind. But when a massive shadow fell to the ground, they suddenly snapped out of their stupor.
Everyone looked up. No one knew exactly when it had descended, but now it loomed over the formation, gazing disdainfully at the insignificant mages. Fear spread like a plague, sweeping through the ranks in an instant.
It was far too abrupt, only the blink of an eye had passed, and it was already at the army's doorstep.
Lu Jun looked up solemnly. The majestic creature finally revealed its full form.
It was a skeletal dragon, its entire body appearing to be cast from mercury—crystal clear, eternally lustrous, with sharply defined edges, and countless bone spikes protruding from its surface.
Its supreme soul-fire was encased deep within the thick skeleton, burning with a ghostly blue hue that exuded the chilling aura of death. The flame leaked out through the cracks in the bones, forming countless threads of icy blue mist that made it appear both domineering and sinister.
The entire figure was awe-inspiring and impeccably majestic.
Wei Siyao slowly spoke, "The Bonefiend Overlord."
One of the Eight Undead Monarchs—a mid-tier Monarch—stronger than the Ghostfiend Warlord in the distance.
Lu Jun's eyes showed a hint of admiration. If I could ride this bone dragon, I'd look like the Lich King. Damn, that'd be badass.
But that wasn't the end. Following the appearance of the bone dragon, one towering creature after another emerged from the depths of the Dark Abyss.
First was a mountain-sized Berserker Corpse that appeared at the far end of the undead sea without warning. With every step it took, the tremors traveled all the way to the frontline.
[Mountain Corpse] a Supreme Monarch whose existence predated even the Ancient Capital. Its physique was larger than a Black Serpent and comparable to a whole city.
On both sides of it, four monarch-class monsters stood in a line: the Crimson Skull Lord, the White Corpse King, the Garnet Corpse Monarch, and the Mist Ghost Commander.
[Crimson Skull Lord] was a humanoid skeleton, entirely deep red in color, about human-sized. It hovered silently beside the Corpse of the Mountain, so low-key it was nearly overlooked.
[White Corpse King] was a similar type, but with blood and flesh, a zombie-type monarch clad in full armor, like a battle-hardened general.
The remaining two, [Garnet Corpse Monarch] and [Mist Ghost Commander], were both massive in size.
The former resembled a mound of bloody flesh, similar to the Corpse of the Mountain but only a third of its height.
The latter looked like a small mountain covered in black mist, hanging between the earth and sky like a curtain of black night.
Including the Ghostfiend Warlord and the Bonefiend Overlord who appeared earlier, seven of the Eight Undead Monarchs had now made their appearance. Only the final one, the Nether Queen, remained hidden.
The thousands-strong army gasped for air. A trembling voice asked, "Seven monarchs… can we really break through to the Dark Abyss ?"
At this moment, Han Ji's expression turned grim. Their original plan was to escort Mo Fan's group to the Abyss and then return the way they came.
But with these seven monarchs present, and being so deep within the undead sea, could they still return safely?
He took a deep breath and declared, "Everyone, prepare to die in battle. Summon Forbidden Curses and annihilate this undead menace in one strike!"
Rumble!!
The seven towering Monarchs stood like devil gods, exuding overwhelming might. With their arrival came even more undead.
Billions of undead corpses gathered into their formations. Whether crawling up from beneath the ground or surging in from the distant north, their numbers were enough to blanket the farthest edges of the horizon...
The Corpse Hill Legion, the Mist Ghost Legion, the Deep Crimson Skeleton Legion... One elite undead legion after another assembled.
And to make things even worse for the despairing mages, just as they reached the ten-kilometer mark, the ground beneath the phalanx began to collapse in several places.
Ancient tombs were interspersed throughout the thousands-strong army, and massive waves of decaying corpses surged out, forcibly separating the squads and beginning to consume them piece by piece.
There was no helping it. When a Mage army moves, the spacing between individuals must be far greater than that of ordinary human troops, given the massive area of effect of magic.
This resulted in the thousands of soldiers being spread over several kilometers, essentially breaking up into small units operating independently.
Fortunately, there were Psychic Mages and Sound Mages coordinating communication between the teams, so they weren't reduced to scattered sand.
Even so, Lu Jun's expression was filled with doubt and uncertainty. Compared to before, the Ancient Capital had made more thorough preparations, yet the Undead side had escalated even further.
From three Monarchs, the number had increased to seven the entire Undead Empire had mobilized.
Things were changing unpredictably, and he fell into deep thought, suspecting that this unusual movement from the undead was related to the Queen of the Netherworld.
After capturing Asharuiya and sweeping through the Black Vatican, the Ancient Capital had more than enough preparation. The Queen of the Netherworld likely realized that three or four Monarchs could no longer steamroll the city and decided to up the stakes.
Thankfully... Lu Jun felt a bit of relief. He had brought the Totem Black Serpent with him, otherwise, he might have perished here.
The Totem Black Serpent could single-handedly restrain the Mountain Corpse, a Monarch-level Undead.
That creature was the true final boss—the threat it posed alone was equivalent to the combined might of the other six Monarchs, capable of tying down over a dozen Super Mages.
As for the rest, Chief of the Royal Guards, Lu Huan, could take on a mid-tier Sovereign on his own. Han Ji, President of the Clock Tower Magic Association, was likewise formidable battling two Monarchs at once wouldn't be an issue.
With this division of power, Lu Jun calmed down again. The remaining three or four Monarchs at the rear of the Undead army could be handled by the assembled Super Mages.
His only concern now was, once trapped in the undead tide, what would they do when their magic energy was depleted?
Lu Jun pondered. If his plan failed, he would have no choice but to let the Black Serpent carry his sister and the Super Mage teams out of there, preserving the upper echelon of their strength.
Just as Han Ji's aging figure donned dark-gold armor and stepped forward to confront the Mountain Corpse—
Lu Jun stood out and said, "Leave this Undead Monarch to me."
Everyone was stunned, their eyes filled with doubt as they looked at him.
Lu Jun offered no explanation. He took out a crystal-clear azure bead from his bosom. Through its surface, one could vaguely see vast clouds billowing within, with a giant black serpent coiled and swimming freely inside.
"Black Serpent, I need your power,"
He softly spoke to the Totem Orb, gently stroking it. The white tiger pendant on his neck radiated a brilliant platinum glow, resonating with the Totem Orb in his hand. Sacred and dignified totem patterns surfaced, causing his aura to rise slightly.
