Chapter 140 - Consequences [1]

Cedric rushed ahead, closely followed by Aurelia.

They jumped over the rooftops before arriving at the entrance of the Cathedral.

It was truly a grand building, but it was not the time to admire it.

While the sun fell over the horizon a while ago, it did not mean that the infidels were asleep.

On the contrary, they were more vigilant than ever.

At least 15 Paladins guarded the gates, some of whom were clearly leaders, as proven by their extravagant armor decorations.

'These Infidels.' His eye twitched as he observed their worldly appearance.

They were golden bull worshippers, fitting for Pagans.

With a swift motion of his hand, he gripped the Equilibirum's hilt and drew the blade.

"Aurelia, go find Anna. I will deal with the Paladins." Cedric whispered.

Aurelia nodded before quickly disappearing into the night.

Cedric let out a sigh before activating [God's Eye].

These infidels were unforgivable.

Capture of a Christian like Anna was unacceptable.

In the corner of his eye, he saw a streak of red that was Aurelia slip through the entrance before turning his gaze back to the more notable Paladins.

Cedric's eyes focused on the infidel woman.

Her frame was fully covered by the pitch black armor, like everyone else.

But the power she held eclipsed almost all other Infidels Cedric saw before in service of the pagan god.

'Such disparity in power...' He mused.

It was foolish to have someone so vastly more powerful than her own team inside the group.

Of course, from his position, he wasn't one to talk.

He was God's Chosen, eclipsing everyone he saw in this world.

It was as it needed to be.

His arms clasped in prayer, 'God, almighty creator and king of kings, may your light guide me even now that I am battling corruption of Chrunus. Amen'

His eyes opened once again.

That woman would be the first to die, shortly following other Paladins.

He did not intend to give them a chance to fight back.

His fingers wrapped around Equilibirum as he jumped down, his armored form falling with a grace befitting a professional thief.

In midair, he withdrew Equilibrium before slashing the woman in half.

The other Paladins were in too much shock to make a noise, however, they would die in that very same shock as Equilibrium slashed them in half, turning their bodies to ash.

Cedric sheathed Equilibrium once again while exhaling.

The only noise they made was a slight yelp before they were permanently silenced and sent to hell.

Cedric turned to the Cathedral entrance.

The doors were barred from inside, clearly meant to prevent any escape.

While just breaking them was an option, it would defeat his entire stealth approach.

His eyes darted, scanning the entire building.

It truly was pleasing. However, once it represented God, it would truly become beautiful and fulfill its true potential.

As such, it was an unacceptable loss to destroy it accidentally.

The walls were decorated in marble and gold, a true sense of opulence, dark banners of Chrunus hung from them, proudly displaying a pierced heart.

It was not to be allowed; he focused his whole being into [Divine Storm], channeling it just enough to burn away the filthy banners.

The controlled holy radiance washed over the walls, clearing them of infidels' symbols.

He nodded as he crossed his arms in a satisfied manner.

"Excellent." He muttered before he continued looking over the walls.

His eyes scanned the stained glass windows, they truly were majestic despite showing the wrong figure.

However, it was not the fault of the glass, but of those who made it in such a manner.

After a moment of staring, he noticed one window missing, its stained glass broken; a perfect entrance.

'Perfect...' He moved quickly to the side of the massive building.

He looked up at the broken window before jumping.

With a gentle thud unbefitting of his heavy armor, he landed at the edge of the window.

Inside rows of Paladins gathered, their faces covered in cloth instead of their usual helmet.

Usual seats were nowhere to be found, but a path was cleared through the paladins leading towards a bloody altar.

'What are they doing?' Cedric asked himself, despite knowing fully well what these despicable infidels wanted to do.

They planned to bring the Christians they captured to be sacrificed to a pagan god.

Fortunately, that meant they were still alive, but it would not save them from Cedric's fury.

Not long after, he heard noise coming from the back of the Cathedral.

2 Paladins led a chained and gagged man toward the altar.

Cedric's hand itched to reach for Equilibrium.

These pagans dared bring one of the first people willing to accept God.

He activated [God's Eye]

Not only that, the young soldier also accepted God.

His body trembled.

Stealth was no longer an option.

Paladins were to be purged.

He had warned them.

There would be no more mercy.

His presence filled the room, stunning the Paladins with [Divine Charm].

With a mighty jump, he crashed into the altar, shattering it into pieces.

"When will you pagans learn to listen to my warnings?" He spoke with a shaky voice.

He took a step forward.

They were unforgivable.

Infidels that dared not only reject the light of the Lord, but also attempt to sacrifice his faithful.

This would not stand. He took another step forward, [Divine Zeal] slowly filling the air, crackling with holy energy.

They could not move; they were at his mercy.

The mercy which they would never receive.

[Divine Zeal] filled the room, suffocating, crushing, burning.

Paladins never had a chance to fight, no, they never had a chance to even move.

They all became ash in the presence of The God's Chosen, they were unworthy of Equilibirum's edge.
