Chapter 188 - Source Origin(37)

Cades had overreacted, but still, he didn't regret it, after all, the swordswoman had lost her sword, so she was jsut a woman, pun intended, and the mage was confused on why he was suddenly able to see from what he was able to tell, seeing as they were quite literally just shooting a kind of formless mana at him while he was able to block it with ease by expulsing his own mana, and as an added bonus he would once more have at least a bit of control over the terrain once he did.

It was an interesting phenomenon when two streams of powerful, forced mana collided.

The two streams don't cancel each other out but more so dissolve each other, turning into foreign mana that is soon to dissipate and only weaken mages during long battles, a weakness that causes many of them to prefer using their surroundings, such as using the water in the air to cast frost spells, using the magic to ignite fire and then shoot it, using magic to pull something down from high above, using magic to control the earth and other elements, and many other ways, such as, of course, alchemy and artificing, the two most effective ways to safe your mana during a fight in many cases.

As such when he spread his mana out into all directions, debilitating his sight for a brief moment, this collision of the two streams caused him a small blind spot in his mana as well as a big waste of about a third of a percentile, having chosen to match the amount the mage had shot, probably intending to save their magic to keep this storm up that was still cutting Cades skin, most likely dirtying the wounds and causing nasty diseases, rashes and a great deal of infections.

Either way, though that was an interesting and slightly unnerving development his most important step right now was to take care of the still lying, squirming swordswoman without a sword, well, she was trying to pull it out, but in her current position, basically lying on the ground, unable to see after being hit, perhaps having lost control over the mana that was most likely protecting her eyes, she would not be able to do it easily, at least not this fast, that was for sure.

He heaved his sword up, sharp side facing the woman like a guillotine, and finally brought it down, ready to turn this battle into a standard duel as it was supposed to be according to his opinion, at least that's what was supposed to happen, until the woman used another trick she must've hidden up her sleeve that was covered in cloth either way.

Just like he did when he used the warp, the woman vanished into thin air, most likely appearing somewhere else, somewhere that eh would figure out real soon using his mana sense, then using that same mana sense to attack the hopefully still blinded woman once again, the mage not involving himself right now, though the storm was seemingly getting stronger and stronger, a part of his mana in the air being dissolved by the magically infused and summoned dust over time, a dust that they were most likely moving using some kind of reinforcement or gravitational spell Cades had never heard of, though he should be able to do something like this if he had enough time, even engraving it onto a medium..

She was behind him.

His heart skipped a beat as he warped himself away as fast as he could muster up his active, which was quite fast indeed, spanning less than a fraction of a second, faster than most normal people and even many fights on his level, but still not fast enough to escape the blade that was hurdling towards his shoulder, his body almost instinctually evading and at least causing some disturbance in the sure-fire-hit that the woman had been aiming for, his death, or at least the amputation of his arm.

He warped around a hundred feet away, a feat normally impossible without his warping active being boosted by this place, and yet, he still felt nervous as he felt his right shoulder, the one that had been hit, twitching with a liquid slowly streaming down from his back, luckily not seeming to impact his mobility and range of motion when fighting too much, something that would've bene much worse for him inn his current situation, and very much not pleasurable for Cades, of course.

Just like that he could sense the heat of flames, powerful, though their colour unknown, heading towards him, opting to simply block them with the mana in the air, concentrating it into a classical wall, just as he had done during his fight against the vampire girl, if she truly was a vampire, hoping to easily block it and quickly retaliate against the now dashing woman who had somehow retrieved her sword, the silver end pointed at Cades, something he was glad about as he had no intention of getting thrown away again, and on top of that he had hurt his hand the last time he had clashed with the golden side of the blade, so that was also a nice boon.

And indeed, the attack of the mage, weakened by the storm he had conjured up that was still steadily growing stronger, was easily blocked, simply lacking the mana and force to penetrate the barrier he had conjured up, even more so since flames weren't exactly known to dissolve mana.

However, he was angry now, his arms hurt like hell, his stomach felt like vomiting, his head had developed a migraine after all the fighting, stabbing, slicing, mincing even, and now he wanted some blood in return for having been fighting against these two, blood for blood you may say, and as such, Cade warped himself behind the woman who had been running towards him, facing her back and ready to strike already, holding the blade in both hands as he did most of the time.
