Rylan rushed forward to help the injured D-rank students. Victor turned—his gaze found Derek.
Derek stood stiff, two paces away. He didn't step forward, but he hadn't turned to leave either. Victor's aura wreathed him. Derek knew within seconds he was lost.
Victor's lip curled. "Hey, Derek." He drew a breath. "If you tried to have someone killed… that's only okay if they tried to kill you too, right?"
He took deliberate steps forward, deliberately slow.
Without warning, Victor unsheathed the legendary sword—five feet of midnight steel tipped with crackling dark lightning. Its blade shimmered in torchlight. His qi—Void Emperor aura, saturated with killing intent and soul energy—exploded outward.
The aura slammed Derek like tidal wave. Ground quaked. Dust erupted around them.
