Sofia kicked Audrey's chair in the library. "Focus. Midterm next week."
Audrey groaned. "You focus. I'm still thinking about Caleb's kiss."
Sofia smirked. "Girl, I saw that hickey."
"Shhh!" Audrey hushed her. "This is a university!"
"Not anymore. It's a romantic battlefield."
Their laughter earned glares from a nearby student, but for once, Audrey didn't care.
She was in love with her mafia lord.
And strangely, she felt safe.
For now.

Caleb stood in the underground vault, staring at an old photo of Audrey's family.
He traced her mother's face. Her father's.
"They were good people," Luca said, joining him.
Caleb nodded. "And they trusted the wrong brother."
Luca was silent.
"Keep Mia close," Caleb ordered. "But don't hurt her. Yet."
Luca's jaw twitched. "That might be harder than you think."
Caleb didn't miss the meaning behind his tone.
And he didn't say anything.
