Chapter 3 - Path [1]

As the night starts to engulf the forest in darkness, Leo decided to set camp and wait till morning before he continues his journey. The howling of the beasts can be heard near as they lurk in the dark for their unfortunate prey.

Leo, who was trained by the sword from the academy and was one of the promising figures that had potential in earning the knight position within the kingdom, grips his sword as he fell asleep through the night.

He gathered his belongings and continued his walk but was soon stopped by the sound of a thunderbolt graze by his ear.

"What is a human doing near our forest, speak before we blow your head."

Leo was surprised by the encounter with the goblins that appeared from the branches of the trees. He raised up his hands as they pointed their mana-powered weaponry that shoots a sphere shaped material they called "bullets".

"I-I'm not your enemy! I came here to find answers."

Leo kept his head down, due to not wearing his blind fold and what harm his eyes could do to the goblins.

One of them came down from the tree and checked on him, as the goblin got close to Leo, he was surprised as he could smell his own kin from Leo.

"Chief, come down here, you need to see this!"

The two remaining goblin including their chief came down. The chief immediately halted as soon as he smelled the scent of different species from him.

"This can't be... Human, look at me."

Leo slowly moved his head up as he reveals his crimson colored eyes. The goblins bewildered and shocked by this reveal, immediately took Leo to their village outside the forest. They blindfolded him as they entered the village and brought him to a house that belongs to an old goblin shaman.

They took off his blindfold that caused to old goblin shaman to drop his wooden old staff to the ground as he saw Leo's eyes.

"F-forgive us your holiness! My kin did not recognize the great Dragon."

The shaman kneeled and bowed for mercy but Leo was having other thoughts on the matter. Leo noticed that his wasn't harming them or affecting them in any matter that he came to a realization "Does this only works on other races except the monsters?".

"Great shaman, please stand up. I wish to explain first because I would need your help."

The shaman stood up properly and was ready to listen. Leo explained to the shaman about him possessing the blood of monster species that exists, which also includes the revered dragons. Hearing this, the Shaman couldn't come to a conclusion, as it was her first time hearing a being that possesses the blood of every monster kin.

"Great shaman, please help me in developing myself."

The shaman, seeing Leo's resolve decided to give him her answer.

"If you truly wish to integrate with us. I suggest that his holiness visit the main kingdom and learn every skill by joining the monster academy."

Leo, nodded in response to her answer. But still wanted to ask one question.

"Great shaman, why do insist in calling me his holiness. I am nothing but human that possess your kin's blood."

The shaman smiled and responded.

"No matter who you are your holiness, you still hold the blood of the dragons and possess the eyes that symbolizes their existence unlike the lizardmen that are said to be their descendants."

Leo, stood in silence, letting the new information sink in.

"I suggest his holiness stay within our village for the time being. Unfortunately, admission to the academy isn't available till the next 3 months. You are free to delve in our village's small archive and he also may learn the goblin's art of marksmanship."

Leo, with a firm resolve. Bowed in front of the shaman and thanked her for the hospitality.

"I guess I will be having a new disciple."

The chief implied.

"For now, take his holiness to your quarters chief Grokk. I believe his holiness is tired from his long journey."

The chief gestured to follow him to his house. The house was small, the walls made of wood and the roof made of long leaves. It had two rooms, one for chief Grokk and his wife and the other empty. Leo settled in the empty room.

"Thank you for accepting me chief Grokk. I'll be sure to repay you for this kindness."

Leo smiles as he looks at the chief standing at the door.

"There's no need, you are my new disciple after all. I may not look like it but I was once one of the academy's best marksman in the academy of my generation. Also before I forget, I wish to know my disciple's name, I haven't had the chance to ask."

Leo stood up straight with his right fist to his chest.

"My name is Leo, Leo Kaelen. I will be in your care master Grokk."

Leo said with determination.

"Leo huh, that's a nice name. Since it's still noon outside, come with me. I'll teach you the first skill of a goblin marksman."

Leo, curious and excited, followed chief Grokk to the Abyssal Forest where the beasts rests. He led Leo near their den but far enough for Leo to not see them.

"Do you see what I'm seeing Leo?"

Leo carefully looks at the direction where Chief Grokk is looking but only could see bushes and the tall bodies of the trees.

"I-I do not seem to see anything other than leaves. Master Grokk, is there something I am supposed to see."

Chief Grokk chuckles in response.

"I will teach you the art of heightened senses. If you truly have our blood, then you should be able to do it as well. Surprising enough, us goblins, our smallest organs are able to withstand the mana infused to them. In result to this, we are able to enhance our sight by creating miniscule shaped lenses in our eyes that allows us to see further. Now try it, guide your energy to the tip of eye then shape them like lenses you see in the stargazer.

Leo, following Chief Grokk's instructions. Guides the mana towards his eyes, though painful at first due to the mana rushing inside the nerves of his eyes, slowly pushes through until it reached the tip of his pupils. He then shaped it to the shape of his cornea and by adding more layers just like the stargazer, an object that allows them to look at the stars at close range. Leo was able to see at far distances, thus learning his first monster skill.
