On his way home, Shirakawa Sawahei made a call to his homeroom teacher, Uehara Shigeo, to inform him that he might not be able to attend school for the next few days and intended to take a leave of absence.
Uehara Shigeo readily agreed to his request and even kindly inquired about the reason for Shirakawa Sawahei's leave, which he glossed over with an excuse about catching a cold due to the changing seasons.
He did want to mention that he got shot, but such a fantastical claim would be hard for Uehara Shigeo to believe.
In the assassination attempt on Hayakawa Kashi, although his injury wasn't severe, it was still a gunshot wound. Just going to school as if nothing happened seemed somewhat disrespectful to the assassin, in Shirakawa Sawahei's view.
