Cael's black SUV rolled into the driveway of the cafe, the low hum of the engine unnoticed under the chattering of customers and the afternoon buzz. He was supposed to go speak to the mayor first but he needed to see her, touch her, to know she was safe and alright. Giving her space be damned.
His jaw clenched as he pulled into the cafe's parking lot and his eyes fell on a sight that made his breath still.
Elisa was leaning on the hood of a sleek Audi parked near the cafe, laughing. But not just any laugh. It was the full-bodied and carefree, the kind she hadn't shared with him in days... weeks. Her head was tilted back slightly, eyes squinting with joy as her hand brushed the shoulder of the man standing beside her.
The man stood a little too close. The way he was standing beside her screamed of familiarity and possession. Cael's knuckles whitened around the steering wheel.
Even from the locked car his werewolf hearing picked up what she said between laughs.
