My hands shook so hard, I thought they might snap apart. I clung to Ian's wrist like it was the last solid thing in a world that had just crumbled at my feet.
"Ian… tell me a joke. Please. Say something stupid. Say anything. Just lie to me if you have to. Just tell me…" I swallowed, my throat thick with panic. "Tell me nothing's wrong with Olivia."
He looked at me like he looked at me but he didn't say anything.
That silence was a scream. A scream louder than anything I had ever heard.
"Ian…" I stepped back, grabbing his hands again, gripping them tighter.
"You said you would protect her. You promised. You promised me, remember? You're supposed to protect her. It told Blake to do so also!"
Tears blurred my vision. My legs were trembling, my chest rising and falling as I had just run miles barefoot over the glass.
"Tell me you are kidding. Please… nothing can happen to her. She's just a child. She's my baby…"
