Megan's eyes dropped to her hands. They wouldn't stop shaking. She pressed them together, fingers digging into her palms, trying to ground herself.
"My sister…" she began, her voice barely above a whisper, "she's fine. Or at least, she says she is. We — argued." She paused, breath catching. "But it's nothing I couldn't handle."
Her eyes lifted just enough to meet his. She forced another smile broke across her lips — like a patch over a wound that hadn't stopped bleeding. It didn't reach her eyes.
But Orion didn't buy it. His wolf stirred restlessly, bristling beneath his skin. Every instinct told him that Megan wasn't telling him everything — that something had shaken her to the core.
And she was trying too hard to make it all look normal.
