Chapter 182 - Chapter 180: The End of an Era, and a New Beginning

Before Dix could finish his words, the two Dorados fired, seemingly recognizing him as different from the other security forces. They forced his [Adele Custom] out of the formation. Then, the new machine that looked like a frog weaved through the battle lines with ease, its claws and tail blade quickly turning friendly MS into scattered debris on the ground. The battle line was immediately torn open.

"Damn it!" Dix grew impatient. He had been confident in executing this escort mission, but now he was being suppressed from the start. "Such coordination... they're elite, but I'm not to be trifled with!"

The two Dorados had closed in on the [Adele Custom], moving out of the optimal firing range of the Vangs Rifle. Dix made a decisive move, discarding the Vangs Rifle and drawing his Beam Saber to charge at one of the Dorados.

But this didn't mean the situation had turned around—instead, it signaled the arrival of a crisis. While Dix was locked in a stalemate with one Dorado, the other had already maneuvered behind the [Adele Custom], its Beam Saber glowing brightly, aimed directly at the cockpit's rear.

"Not good!"

Alarms blared. The [Adele Custom] swung its Beam Saber to push the Dorado away, stepped back, turned, and raised its shield to block. But it was too late. The ambushing Dorado severed the left arm holding the shield.

The [Adele Custom] didn't stop there. It rolled to the side, picked up the discarded Vangs Rifle, and fired while creating distance between itself and the enemy.

But the enemy was also an elite force. Having gained the upper hand, they didn't let up, alternating cover and executing tactical maneuvers with precision. Soon, they navigated through a barrage of pink beams and closed in on the [Adele Custom], slicing the Vangs Rifle in half with a single strike.

"This is just unfair..."

Now without the Vangs Rifle and its left arm, the [Adele Custom] faced the two Dorados with only a Beam Saber.

"This is bad."

Not only was his MS severely damaged, but the [Jedaulus] (the new machine) that had been attacking other allies also closed in. The three machines formed a triangle, surrounding the [Adele Custom]. Dix was drenched in cold sweat.

"Federal elites, you've held out this long against us... Are you from the [Celestial Being]?" Medel Sant suddenly opened a public communication channel to ask.

"Oh? You could tell? Seems like our intel has been compromised quite a bit," Dix replied.

"Hmph, are you still going to resist? For your decaying Federation?"

"Who cares about them? I couldn't care less about those disgusting people. In fact, I wish they'd all just die sooner!" Dix shot back angrily.

"Then..."

"But this is a mission assigned to me by the Captain. I can't mess it up. And also... you Martians causing chaos on Earth really pisses me off!" Dix cursed.

"...As expected of him. Then I'll grant you a warrior's end—"

"Beep beep beep..."

"Reinforcements? Scatter!"

The alarms blared as several beams descended from the sky, leaving large craters where the three machines had been standing.

"That's... a Gundam!"

The Gundam AGE-2 descended from the sky, transforming from its fighter mode to MS mode, positioning itself protectively beside the [Adele Custom].

"Sorry I'm late, Dix. Are you okay?" Asemu asked with concern.

"Tch! Who needs your help? I was about to take them out!" Dix retorted arrogantly.

"Really?" Asemu teased with a smirk. Dix was his rival, and he knew exactly what the other was like.

"Hmph, I stayed up late last night and didn't sleep well. I'm going to catch some Z's now. You handle them."

"No problem."

The battered [Adele Custom] retreated toward the base, leaving the Gundam AGE-2 to face the three VEGAN machines alone.

"A Gundam... standing in our way again, huh?" Medel Sant gritted his teeth. VEGAN's plans had always gone smoothly until the Gundam appeared. Whenever VEGAN mentioned the Gundam, an indescribable rage and resentment swirled in their hearts.

"Of course. As long as you refuse to abandon war, I'll stop you no matter how many times it takes!"

"Hmph! Such bold words from a young man. You're just fighting for a decaying Federation. We of VEGAN will never lose to an unjust army!"

His declaration was impassioned, rivaling even that of a seasoned orator like Floy. But his actions didn't match his words. As the Gundam AGE-2 swung its sword downward, Medel Sant sidestepped and immediately ascended into the air.

"We'll settle this another day. I have a mission to attend to now."

With that, he turned and left.

"Don't think you can escape!" Asemu was about to give chase but was blocked by the two Dorados.

"Out of my way!" Asemu was fully aware that his mission was to protect, so he didn't hesitate. He pushed through the Dorados' barrage, determined to quickly dispatch them and catch up to the fleeing [Jedaulus].

...

Before Floy Olfia could be fully escorted away, the [Jedaulus] had already arrived at the central square. Fortunately, the civilians and reporters had already been evacuated. Otherwise, the damage would have been catastrophic. Even if Flit's coup succeeded, it would have left a significant stain.

"It's... it's really here..." Floy Olfia stared in disbelief at the [Jedaulus] before him. The red light from its head scanner converged into a single point, locking onto his forehead. If he couldn't tell this machine was here to kill him, then he truly hadn't lived all these years for nothing.

"Don't worry. I told you I wouldn't let you die now."

As he spoke, Flit looked past the [Jedaulus], gazing at the sky behind it.

A small dot rapidly approached, soon revealing its form.

The Gundam AGE-2 completed its transformation mid-air, directly positioning itself in front of Flit and the others. Without hesitation, it grabbed the [Jedaulus] and flew away, only stopping once Flit and the others were in a safe area.

"Why... why do you still have such fighting spirit?" Medel Sant had always been puzzled. In his eyes, Earthlings were decayed and corrupt. Yet, in every battle, the Federal Army displayed an unbelievable fighting spirit, never giving up until the very end.

"You should understand, VEGAN," Asemu said.

"I... understand?"

"We're the same!" As Asemu roared, the Gundam AGE-2 effortlessly severed the [Jedaulus]'s claws and shattered the blade at its tail during the skirmish. "Not for the Federation, nor for some grand cause. My reason is simple—to protect the people I care about most!"

With those words, his dual swords left a blazing, menacing cross on the [Jedaulus]'s chest.

"So... that's how it is... If someone like you... had been there from the start... perhaps... Lord Ezelkanta... I too... can return to Eden..."

In the final moments before the explosion, what he saw wasn't the Gundam AGE-2 or the ruined venue, but a vibrant grassland, with a sapphire-like lake shimmering under the sunlight at its edge. His elderly wife stood on the grassland, enjoying the gentle breeze. She saw him and waved.

"Boom~!"

Medel Sant's end came in the Eden he yearned for, within his most beautiful dream.

...

Floy Olfia's true colors were exposed. No matter how much crucial intel he had provided to the Federation, the rest of his life would be spent behind bars.

But he wasn't alone. The Olfia family was a massive clan, and with someone like him as its pillar, the others weren't much cleaner. Whether they were businessmen, politicians, or researchers... many dark secrets were uncovered. Every important member of the Olfia family was guilty, and they all joined him in prison.

"Who would have thought the Olfia family had done so much? It's really..." Yang Hui shook his head as he read Floy Olfia's confession.

What can I say... It didn't disappoint, did it?

The crimes committed by the Olfia family were beyond imagination. There was nothing they hadn't done, and their misdeeds were too numerous to list.

"So their family is finished. They'll never see the light of day again," Graham shrugged, indifferent.

"Yeah."

"Speaking of which, Yang Hui, Floy Olfia has been arrested, and Flit has taken power. Should we...?"

"Of course."

The two exchanged a smile, and in the next moment, Mephis's voice echoed in their minds.

[Phase Two of the Gundam AGE world mission completed. The Nora Laim Defense War was a complete success. Assisting Flit Asuno in launching a coup and seizing power in the Federation's upper echelons, exposing the secret ties between the Federation's upper echelons and VEGAN, and ensuring the survival of all Diva crew members (including Grudick, Woolf Enneacle, and Remi), rewards have been increased.

Rewards obtained: 1 construction opportunity, 2 building enhancement opportunities, 1 skill extraction opportunity, 2 skill enhancement opportunities, and a small supply package. World deviation will be calculated collectively after the Gundam AGE world concludes...

PS: Skill extraction opportunities, skill enhancement opportunities, and supply packages can only be used after returning to Prometheus Fortress.

Phase Three of the Gundam AGE world mission has been issued: Obtain the EXA-DB, destroy the guardian Sidd, prevent the destruction of the Second Moon in the final battle, and quickly develop a cure for the unknown disease on Mars.

PS: Ensure the survival of all Diva crew members before the mission ends. Rewards will increase for each additional survivor and for each year the mission is completed earlier.]

"Huh?"

The two looked up at each other simultaneously. First, because of the mission to obtain the EXA-DB, which Yang Hui and Graham had already agreed was a must. They hadn't expected it to appear in the mission. Second...

"Yang Hui... the Diva crew..." Graham felt he had grasped a pattern in the mission releases, but it was still too vague to articulate.

"Yeah, I noticed it too. Mephis..."

[Commander.]

"Is the repair of Prometheus Fortress... really just about completing missions and earning rewards?"

[...Commander's permissions are insufficient. Unable to answer.]

"I see." Although he didn't get a definitive answer, Yang Hui knew his guess was close to the truth, even if not entirely accurate.

"It seems we'll have to increase our permissions when we get back," Graham suggested.

"Right. It seems permissions are the most important thing in the entire fortress."

"Are you two ready?"

At that moment, Yurin entered, asking them. She wasn't wearing her military uniform or casual clothes, but a beautiful purple dress.

"Yes, of course."

"We can't be late for Asemu's wedding."

Dressed in formal suits, Yang Hui and Graham followed Yurin to the church. The bells rang, and doves were released as the newlyweds exchanged vows once more, binding their lives together.
