Chapter 24 - A Private Reassurance (chapter 24)

‎The moon hung high in the sky, its pale light filtering through the silk curtains of their room. Wei Wuxian sat cross-legged on their bed, still pouting despite Lan Wangji's earlier words of reassurance. He had his back turned as if trying to brush off the earlier conversation, but the occasional huff of breath gave away his lingering irritation.

‎Lan Wangji, standing by the window, studied him quietly. His Wei Ying. Ever vibrant, ever expressive, and now... irrationally sulking.

‎Without a word, Lan Wangji crossed the room and sat beside Wei Wuxian.

‎"Wei Ying," he said softly, his voice carrying the weight of a promise.

‎"What?" Wei Wuxian replied, glancing at him sideways but still clearly sulking. "If you're here to talk about your *friend,* don't bother. I get it. Childhood besties and all that. I'm just the troublemaker who—"

‎"Wei Ying," Lan Wangji interrupted, his tone firmer this time. Wei Wuxian stopped mid-ramble, blinking at him. "Lan Zhong is only a friend. You are my life."

‎Wei Wuxian froze.

‎Lan Wangji shifted closer, cupping Wei Wuxian's cheek with one hand, his steady golden gaze meeting his husband's wide gray eyes. "No one compares to you," he continued softly, each word deliberate. "Lan Zhong, or anyone else. I am yours, and you are mine."

‎Wei Wuxian's breath hitched, and his earlier irritation melted into something much softer. "Lan Zhan…"

‎Before Wei Wuxian could find more words, Lan Wangji leaned in, brushing his lips softly against Wei Wuxian's. The kiss was warm, tender, and yet carried the weight of unspoken vows—a reassurance that Wei Wuxian didn't even know he needed.

‎Wei Wuxian exhaled into the kiss, his arms coming up to wrap around Lan Wangji's neck. What started as soft and careful quickly deepened, Lan Wangji tilting his head to claim more of Wei Wuxian's lips, his hand slipping to rest on Wei Wuxian's waist.

‎Wei Wuxian shivered, overwhelmed but entirely unwilling to pull away. When Lan Wangji finally did, it was only enough to rest his forehead against Wei Wuxian's, their breaths mingling in the quiet.

‎"Lan Zhan," Wei Wuxian whispered, his voice trembling slightly, "you—you really know how to make a man feel special, don't you?"

‎"You are special," Lan Wangji replied simply, his hand gently trailing along Wei Wuxian's jaw.

‎Wei Wuxian's heart stuttered in his chest. He hid his face against Lan Wangji's shoulder, muffling a delighted laugh. "Fine, fine. You win, Lan Zhan. I'll stop sulking. For now."

‎A quiet hum of approval left Lan Wangji as his arms wrapped securely around Wei Wuxian, pulling him closer. Wei Wuxian smirked against his shoulder.

‎"And for the record," Wei Wuxian muttered, his teasing edge creeping back into his voice, "if anyone else even *looks* at you for too long, I'll definitely find a new rule to break. And then they'll *really* regret it."

‎Lan Wangji huffed a quiet breath of amusement—almost a laugh—and tightened his hold. "As you wish, Wei Ying."

‎In the stillness of the night, with his Lan Zhan's arms firmly around him and the earlier tension forgotten, Wei Wuxian finally allowed himself to relax.

‎Lan Wangji didn't say anything else. He didn't need to. The way he held Wei Wuxian said everything: _You are my heart. My life. My everything._

‎Wei Wuxian drifted to sleep with that assurance, smiling like a man whose heart had been wrapped in the softest of silks.
