Chapter 167 - Chapter 167: Treatment

Where is this?

In the pitch-black void, Black Zetsu stared in confusion at the countless floating fragments surrounding him, varying in size.

He had been devouring Danzo's consciousness—so why had he ended up here?

The fragments emitted a faint glow, resonating as if responding to something.

"Black Zetsu? It seems fate has finally smiled upon me..."

The voice had barely fallen when chains shot out from all directions, wrapping around Black Zetsu in an instant, binding him tightly like a cocoon.

"No, Danzo, this is a misunderstanding! We can work together—No...!"

Before he could finish, he vanished from the space.

Once again, silence returned, but the fragments in the void seemed to be gathering and repairing themselves at an even faster pace.

...

Deep within the Root's secret base, in a hidden chamber, Danzo lay on a treatment bed, his body connected to numerous medical instruments.

"His brain is in a state of complete consciousness lockdown. There's no way to intervene."

Uchiha Itachi deactivated his Mangekyō Sharingan.

"Itachi, thank you for your efforts. You should go back now and spend some time with your family."

"Yes."

As Itachi left, the chamber fell into silence, save for the rhythmic beeping of the monitoring devices.

After a long pause, Nonō Yakushi, standing beside the bed, finally spoke.

"Kabuto, go and invite the Hokage here."

"Understood."

A shadow flickered in the darkness, then quickly disappeared.

...

Before long, Tsunade arrived, following Kabuto, her face showing clear irritation.

"This place is really well hidden. No wonder I haven't seen that old man around—turns out he's actually bedridden."

"Apologies, Hokage-sama. Everything was done for your safety."

A week ago, after returning to the base under Guy's escort, Nonō had sealed off all information regarding Danzo's condition. Even when Tsunade had sent people to inquire, the only response given was: "Danzo is recuperating from his injuries."

Tsunade glanced around the room, then scoffed at herself.

"Well, it certainly is safe. A space-sealing jutsu… Let me guess, if I even think about making a move, this entire chamber will be teleported elsewhere? And I assume the forces waiting on the other side are more than enough to kill me?"

"Apologies, Hokage-sama," Nonō bowed deeply again, but did not deny it.

Tsunade's tone grew sharper.

"Get out. I don't want anyone interfering with my treatment."

"Understood, Hokage-sama."

Nonō remained composed as she left the chamber.

Once the stone door sealed shut with runic inscriptions, Tsunade finally let out a breath, easing some of her frustration.

"Your subordinates are certainly competent." She approached the bed, her expression turning serious.

Although she was displeased by Root's lack of trust in her, she still had some understanding of their strength. If even they couldn't handle this, then the situation was likely far more complicated than it seemed.

"For an old geezer, you sure made yourself look younger… Honestly, you're only tolerable when you're unconscious... Tch."

Placing her glowing green hands on Danzo's chest, Tsunade closed her eyes and began scanning his body with chakra.

This body… This life force… It's inhuman.

The sheer vitality coursing through him was unlike anything she had ever seen before.

Tsunade couldn't help but wonder—if she cut off his head, would he even die immediately?

Opening her eyes, she was visibly shaken.

Is this what Grandpa's Wood Release was like?

According to Senju clan records, Hashirama had survived countless fatal injuries without succumbing.

Tsunade chose not to probe further. She feared she wouldn't be able to resist dissecting Danzo for research.

As her hands moved to envelop his head in green light—

It really is a soul-related issue.

The glow in her palms intensified as her brows furrowed. Soon, beads of sweat formed on her forehead.

When she projected her consciousness, she vaguely saw a fragmented space.

Her understanding of soul-related treatment came primarily from her grandmother, a member of the Uzumaki clan.

Tsunade prided herself on her knowledge of souls, believing she was no less proficient in this field than Orochimaru.

But she had never encountered a case like Danzo's before.

A normal person in this state should have been reduced to a mindless husk, yet he remained in a coma instead.

...

The diamond-shaped mark on her forehead spread across her body, and the green chakra in her hands turned pure white.

Yin-natured chakra, infused with soul energy, reached into the shattered space.

But the moment it made contact, the fragmented space reacted like a dried-up sponge—frantically absorbing the energy.

The chakra, meant to be supplied in controlled amounts, was instead being forcefully drawn in, growing more intense by the second.

By the time Tsunade realized what was happening and tried to pull away, it was already too late.

Her consciousness—

It was trapped.

Even opening her eyes became impossible.

"Damn old man… Even unconscious, you're still a pain in the ass…"

Yet soon, her irritation turned into terror.

The absorption force had reached an absurd level.

Her spiritual energy and chakra were rapidly draining, and even her very soul was beginning to suffer damage.

It felt endless, relentless—

In the chamber, Tsunade stood at the bedside, her eyes shut tight, her expression twisted in pain. Her face had turned deathly pale, her body unable to stay upright.

Her legs buckled, and she collapsed forward—her face landing directly onto Danzo's.

Completely unconscious.

...

In the haze of darkness, she could faintly sense an overwhelming, boundless life force.

The chakra flowed through her body like a raging river, filling her cells with revitalizing energy.

Every fiber of her being seemed to cry out in joy, her blood boiling with exhilaration.

Her body greedily absorbed the life force, desperate for more, craving deeper, more intimate contact.

It was an unparalleled, intoxicating pleasure.
