Chapter 68 - Spar

-Ronan Hale:

I didn't slam the door behind me.

But I wanted to.

I stalked down the hall, each step sharper than the last, my jaw clenched so tight it ached. My pulse was still hammering in my ears, drowning out everything else.

I shouldn't have gone to his room.

I shouldn't have locked the door.

I definitely shouldn't have let myself stand that close to him, watching him, knowing damn well I should've just said what I came to say and left.

But no.

Instead, I had to stand there like an idiot, fighting not to look at his bare chest, fighting not to react when he got too damn close, fighting not to let his smirk get under my skin.

And worst of all?

He knew.

Lucien knew exactly what he was doing, the bastard.

The way he smirked, the way he stepped in just close enough to test me, to see how much I'd let him get away with. He was playing some kind of game, and I refused to be his damn pawn.

This wasn't happening.

I was just—

Annoyed.
