Chapter 95 - Chapter 95: Rapidly Progressing Love

"Teacher, is this okay like this?"

Inside the research facility, Kagami sat up from the experimental bed, stretching his shoulders. He knew the front lines at Kikyō Mountain still needed him.

Beside him, Tobirama, dressed in a white lab coat, waved his hand dismissively. "No need to rush. If there's truly a dangerous situation, the intelligence squad will send an urgent message. You can head over then."

Since the 'decapitation strike' that night, the Kumogakure forces had temporarily abandoned their siege, instead fortifying their defenses and sealing off the front lines. This had eased the battles at Kikyō Mountain considerably.

"Come, let's see the results of our efforts these past few days."

Tobirama beckoned him to get out of bed, and together they approached the lab table. Separated by thick glass, the two observed the first fusion phenomenon of the genetic solution.

Under vacuum conditions, a pale red droplet fell onto the glass vessel. Kagami knew it was his genetic solution.

To witness this moment, he solemnly activated his three-tomoe Sharingan, unwilling to miss any detail.

Tobirama manipulated the mechanical pipette, dropping a light blue solution into the vessel. It merged seamlessly with Kagami's genetic liquid, visibly transforming into a deep purple hue without any resistance.

"That is the leaf extract derived from the Oni-Garo plant. Quite miraculous, isn't it?"

Tobirama stared intently at the droplet while explaining, "Theoretically, it can fuse with anyone's blood, but this is an extremely dangerous process. If the ratio isn't precisely controlled, it can be fatal..."

Then, Tobirama carefully extracted a drop of golden solution from the refrigeration unit, using machinery to suspend it above the container before lightly tapping it with his finger.

The droplet rolled off like dewdrops on a leaf, vanishing in an instant.

"Bang!"

With a sharp, piercing explosion, white mist filled the air as two vials of genetic solution shattered simultaneously, the force even cracking the glass.

Kagami was stunned; with the dynamic vision of the Sharingan, he clearly saw the entire process.

The moment the two droplets of solution came into contact, the liquid surface trembled violently, emitting wisps of white vapor from the intense heat—almost as if pouring concentrated sulfuric acid into water, causing a fierce boil, splattering and evaporating everything in its path.

At that moment, Tobirama patted his shoulder, stirring a flicker of emotion in his eyes.

"No need to be surprised. It was entirely within my expectations," Tobirama said in a low voice. "Experiments are like this—dull, tedious, and drawn-out."

Kagami turned his head and let out a bitter laugh. "I was naive. I even thought that if I gritted my teeth and endured, I could survive the genetic serum's ravages on my body..."

"Don't worry, once this experiment is completed, injecting the genetic solution won't cause you any pain—it'll be as simple as injecting glucose..." Tobirama said calmly. "Survey sampling is one of the common methods in experiments. Adopting this approach is precisely to avoid such situations."

Seeing that Kagami still only half-understood, Tobirama pondered for a moment before summarizing, "You just need to remember that this experiment consists of three steps in total."

"The first step is to merge each other's genetic solutions. This is the most difficult part, requiring constant adjustments to the ratio of the fusion agent and countless repeated experiments."

"The second step is the matching of cell samples. Simply put, it involves injecting the prepared gene solution into your cell samples. This is also an extremely complex process that requires extensive data as support."

"This final step is the true conclusion—directly injecting the gene solution into your bloodstream. There's only one chance: succeed or perish."

Tobirama glanced at Kagami. "But you don't need to worry too much. If the first two steps are completed successfully, the third step shouldn't be a problem either. The probability of perfect fusion is as high as 98%."

Next, Tobirama resumed his experiments, muttering under his breath, whether to Kagami or to himself:

"The concentration of the Oni-Gatana juice still needs adjustment, and the dilution ratio of the genetic solution also varies greatly..."

For the next week, no urgent news came from the front lines. It was as if everyone had gone home for the New Year. Despite being in the midst of a war where both sides were still attacking each other, the battlefield was eerily quiet—almost absurdly so.

For a few rare days, Kagami was free from work and even managed to celebrate the New Year festival in the village.

After several days, there was little progress in the experiments, but the boy's luck with romance was skyrocketing, showing signs of rapid advancement.

Just patrolling the streets, he was surrounded by love-struck young girls, including many well-bred ladies who openly cast flirtatious glances at him.

The threshold of his home was nearly worn down, and the door crack was stuffed with invitations from various prominent families.

When war struck and formidable enemies loomed, Konoha was powerless to fight back. At the brink of life and death, he stepped forward, leading the vanguard to confront the enemy forces. Holding his own against two opponents, he not only restored morale but also showcased Konoha's valor.

These days, Tobirama seems to have made it public that he intends to pass on the title of Third Hokage to him.

Whether it was long-buried affection or the tense atmosphere of war acting as a catalyst, Kagami quickly progressed in his relationship with Uchiha Yuko, the younger sister of the Uchiha clan leader, and they soon became a couple.

On the last day of the New Year festival, Kagami and a petite figure nestled close together atop the Hokage Rock, gazing at the starry sky as fireworks lit up the New Year's night one after another.

Sparks of fireworks shot into the night sky, exploding into fleeting brilliance. They were like colorful sprites, spinning, expanding, and blooming—some as light as willow catkins drifting in the breeze, others as grand as peonies in full bloom. They illuminated the heavens in a dazzling interplay, as if the entire universe had burst into fervor at that very moment.

"If only there were no wars," Yuko murmured softly, her dark eyes alight with the radiant glow of the fireworks.

"Yuko, if I told you I only had a few years left to live... would you still stay with me?"

Yuko raised her head, her fair little hands cradling Kagami's cheeks, her gaze profound and enduring. "I like you. No matter what happens in the future, I will always be with you!"

Kagami held her small hand, his gaze filled with newfound determination. "I will definitely protect the village and everyone in it. No matter how difficult the road ahead may be, at least within my limited time, I must win this war!"

Yuko gazed at his handsome profile, her eyes misty with emotion. "Kagami-kun, I believe in you..."

Their gazes locked in a silent moment where the world fell away, leaving only each other in their eyes. Amidst the dazzling fireworks blooming across the sky, they drew closer and shared a tender kiss.
