Chapter 99: Damned Fate, Whis' Roar

Gicchin forced a smile once again. "Perhaps… it's this damned fate!"

Lin Qi overheard but was utterly baffled. He couldn't make sense of it.

This is deep water, probably already involving the God of Destruction…

"To hell with fate! You're dead, and even I, a God of Destruction, can't bring you back!" Whis was on the verge of losing it.

"Haha… it's fine. I've lived for ten thousand years; I should be content!" Gicchin's breath grew weaker, and every word he uttered took great effort.

"It's just a pity… for this innocent child…"

"This child has suffered too much… Will you take care of him for me?"

"Who would take care of your child?!" Whis clutched his head and roared angrily. "Your child, you take care of him yourself!"

"If you don't take care of him, I'll kill him… kill them!!" Whis' eyes welled up with tears, but he stubbornly refused to let them fall.

"You despicable fool! Always talking about unity and justice, yet you didn't even tell me… and dared to face this demon head-on!!"

"Then what the hell am I, a God of Destruction, even for… urgh…"

Whis clutched his head and collapsed in front of Gicchin, a sight that made Marcarita, who stood behind him, feel uncomfortable.

"Lord Whis…"

It seemed the death of this ten-thousand-year-old friend had dealt a significant blow to him!

"It's already come to this… Say your proper goodbyes to each other!" Lin Qi found it hard to tolerate Whis' stubbornness.

"Shut up! You're from another universe—I haven't even questioned you yet!" Whis shot Lin Qi a frosty glare.

"Well… aren't you impressive!" Lin Qi shot Whis a look of disdain. What an ungrateful guy!

"Youth, take him back. There's no need for him to endure my passing again… This matter shouldn't involve you."

Gicchin's weak voice carried his gratitude as he looked at Lin Qi. "Whis won't make it hard for you to leave!"

"Whatever you say, did I agree to it?!" Whis was furious, almost losing his mind.

Hey, you're on the brink of death…

Why are you still worried about irrelevant people?!

Whis gritted his teeth and glared angrily at Gicchin. But in his eyes, Gicchin looked like he could vanish with the wind at any moment.

"Whis…" Gicchin tried to lift his head, but his shriveled body couldn't even manage this simple motion.

"…You… You stubborn fool, right to the end!" Whis shouted, grabbing and tearing at his fake hair in frustration, his face contorted.

"I hate you the most! Always prattling about justice and unity! Don't you realize how annoying it is?!"

"Save your hypocritical kindness. If you don't want these two to die, then live!"

"Hmph… Who would take care of your kid!" Whis became more enraged seeing Marcarita holding the mini Jiren.

"Hey, Marcarita, did I let you hold him? Put him down! Put him down now…"

"I absolutely, absolutely won't take care of this damned guy's child! I hate kids the most!!"

"Lord Whis…" Marcarita looked at the shouting Whis with a complicated expression.

"Lord Gicchin… has already lost his breath."

"I… he…" Whis suddenly panicked, becoming incoherent.

"Kill you all… Damn demon… Fighting race… Protect what…"

He didn't know what to say anymore. In the end, he fell silent and stared blankly at Gicchin's lifeless body.

"Hey, don't you dare die on me without saying a word!" Whis suddenly grabbed Gicchin's shoulder and shook him violently.

"Gicchin… Get up! Wake up! I'm not taking care of your child!! Gicchin!!"

"Gicchin…"

"You bastard… You're going to make me lose my position as a God of Destruction!"

Whis clenched his fists and slammed the ground in frustration, transparent tears dripping onto the ground. "I don't want to be a God of Destruction anymore… I'll join you in defending justice!"

"Don't die…"

His roars echoed across the ravaged land as blood-red snow petals began to fall from the sky.

"Master…" The mini Jiren opened his large tear-filled eyes, clutching Marcarita's arm and sobbing uncontrollably.

"Master…"

"Go. Take him back. I'll find a way to revive Gicchin!" Whis didn't even glance at Lin Qi or the unconscious Jiren.

He carefully cradled Gicchin's body and spoke to Marcarita. The two left as quickly as they had come.

Before leaving, Whis shot Lin Qi a meaningful look. "Some things are better left unsaid."

"Ugh…" Lin Qi sneered at Whis' retreating figure. "You call that friendship? Seems pretty shallow to me…"

Was this sentimental act over already?

"Sigh…" Lin Qi felt this trip with the time machine had been nothing but suffocating.

"…What the hell is all this?"

As Lin Qi lamented in frustration, Jiren, who had been knocked unconscious, opened his eyes.

"Villain?! Demon?!" Jolted awake, Jiren leaped to his feet, looking around warily.

"Eh, you're back to normal?" Lin Qi looked at Jiren in surprise.

"Is he… really dead?" Jiren clenched his fists tightly, anger evident in his voice. "I'm not strong enough yet!!"

Lin Qi's mouth twitched. He wanted to howl at the sky. What kind of absurd melodrama was this?!

"Well…" In the end, Lin Qi let out a single word, patting the brooding Jiren on the shoulder.

Afterward, Lin Qi took out the time machine. Looking at Jiren, who had grown gloomier since waking up, he couldn't help but ask, "Jiren… Shall we go back and try again?"

For a second time, maybe he could save Gicchin by following the plot more closely!

"No need!" Jiren coldly refused and walked toward the time machine.

"Whoosh!"

Sitting in the cramped time machine, Lin Qi grew irritated. He wanted to take back his earlier words. Even if Jiren wanted to go again, it was pointless—the time machine was out of energy!

He couldn't shake the feeling that while this trip had revealed Gicchin's death, it only deepened the mysteries.

Why did that demon feel so much like an unmasked clown?

Putting aside Gicchin's death, why had those demons sought to exterminate Jiren's race so thoroughly? What was the reason?
