Chapter 108: Son Goku's Wedding Banquet
The beginning was the only exciting part—they just chased each other around and tossed a few energy blasts.
After taking a hit, Son Goku fell from mid-air and flopped onto the ground, playing dead.
As the referee began the countdown, Piccolo floated down with a look of disdain. "Son Goku, what are you pretending to be dead for?!"
"That kind of attack is nothing to you!"
"Heh heh heh… knew I couldn't fool you!" Just as Piccolo finished speaking, Son Goku promptly sprang to his feet.
"That's enough warm-up!" Piccolo looked at the now-standing Son Goku and said, "Let's not waste any more time. It's time to settle this!"
"Exactly what I was thinking!" Son Goku grinned.
With perfect synchronicity, the two charged at each other. Though their words spoke of finishing it, their actions said otherwise—on the arena stage, they kept flashing around, trading punches and kicks, thoroughly enjoying themselves.
At that rate, they wouldn't finish even by the time the sun rose tomorrow.
"This banquet is really taking its sweet time!" Lin Qi sighed as he accepted a drink and popcorn from Master Roshi.
But eventually, the Martial Arts Tournament did come to an end. Son Goku defeated Piccolo with a Kamehameha and won.
With the conclusion of the match, the tournament ended, and Son Goku claimed the champion's prize of 500,000 Zeni—but before he could even warm it up in his hands, Chi-Chi had already taken it.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, a large crowd walked down the avenue. Piccolo stood atop a building, his cape fluttering in the breeze.
"This is fine too," he murmured, suddenly feeling a wave of relief. A wide smile spread across his face.
"The next time I have to worry about what to do after conquering the world… will be three years from now."
"Well then, see you…"
Just as everyone was about to leave, Lin Qi spoke up. "Uh… aren't you all forgetting something?"
"Huh? What is it?" The group turned back to Lin Qi in confusion.
He looked toward Chi-Chi, who was clinging to Son Goku's arm. "Isn't today Goku's big day? Shouldn't we celebrate?!"
"Oh right…" Bulma suddenly realized. "We totally should celebrate!"
"Let's go back to the hotel from earlier—my treat!"
"Yeah!" everyone cheered.
Oddly enough, the usual first-to-cheer Son Goku didn't join in. He looked at Chi-Chi in confusion. "Why do people eat when they get married?"
Chi-Chi didn't respond to him. She looked a little embarrassed as she turned to the others. "That… that wouldn't be right."
Right now, she still looked like an innocent young girl, not at all like the overbearing mother she would become in the future.
"If we're the ones getting married, it's only right that we treat everyone!"
She touched the prize money in her pocket—but it clearly wasn't nearly enough…
Noticing Chi-Chi's difficulty, Bulma quickly chimed in, understanding her predicament. "It's fine, really! Don't worry—am I not here?"
After whispering with Yamcha for a bit, Yamcha nodded and grinned at Son Goku. "It's just a wedding banquet—Goku can definitely afford that!"
"I'll book out the hotel for you guys. Let's go…" Yamcha hooked an arm around the still-clueless Son Goku and dragged him off.
"Yeah!"
Everyone was cheering—except for Lin Qi.
He'd waited so long… just for a regular banquet at a hotel? Oh well, it's not every day that Son Goku gets married.
How many people could say they had the chance to attend something like this?
So Lin Qi dropped his complaints, put his hands behind his head, and followed the crowd. Bulma, however, stayed behind and tugged Chi-Chi aside. "You all go ahead."
"We'll come a bit later." Then, Bulma leaned in close to Chi-Chi and whispered something in her ear.
At the hotel, Son Goku awkwardly tugged at his shirt collar. He was wearing a white tuxedo and stood stiffly in the lobby, clearly uncomfortable.
"Not bad, not bad—looking sharp!" Yamcha kept sizing him up and pulled Tien over impatiently.
"You guys should get changed into the groomsmen outfits too!"
"Hurry it up—we've already wasted a lot of time. Don't keep the bride's side waiting!"
"Bride's side? What bride's side?" Goku looked completely puzzled.
"Obviously your future wife's family—Chi-Chi's side! Young Master Yamcha, everyone's ready!"
Puar emerged from the changing room around the corner, with the rest of the guys all dressed in suits behind him.
"Alright, let's head out!"
Just as Goku was about to dash off, Yamcha quickly stopped him. "Slow down! You're wearing a tux—how can you run like that?"
"Bulma got several cars ready—we're driving!" Yamcha grabbed the collar of Goku's jacket and pulled him back.
They left the hotel and arrived at the location Bulma had arranged. Chi-Chi, dressed in her wedding gown, blushed as she got into the car.
Back at the hotel, the lobby had cleared out.
Chi-Chi looked around in surprise at the empty space. "Where is everyone?"
"They went to get gifts. They'll be back soon!" Yajirobe said while still gobbling up food from the banquet table.
The others were only gone for a short while before returning one by one, sweating and out of breath—clearly, they'd all rushed at top speed.
Amid cheers and applause, Chi-Chi and Son Goku stood beneath the stage lights.
Chi-Chi looked at Goku in his crisp white tuxedo, her face flushed with embarrassment.
"Goku…" she called softly, then lowered her head, unable to say another word.
"Oh, here's my gift…" Yamcha quickly stepped down from the stage and handed Chi-Chi a small, elegantly wrapped box.
"This should technically be for Goku, but… I'll just give it directly to you, Chi-Chi."
The box was tiny—probably containing earrings, a ring, or some other small accessory.
"A ring?" Bulma caught sight of the box Yamcha held up and reached toward Goku. "I already bought one!"
"Goku, marriage has a crucial step—it's called proposing!"
"Proposing?" Goku tilted his head, totally confused.
Bulma pushed the ring box toward him again. "This is it—give the ring inside to Chi-Chi!"
"Oh…" Completely unfamiliar with human customs, Goku just followed her instructions to the letter.
Whatever Bulma said, he did. He took the ring box, opened it, pulled out the diamond ring, and casually handed it to Chi-Chi.
"Here, Chi-Chi—this is for you!"
"…" Lin Qi's mouth twitched—he was speechless. This guy was really embarrassing the Saiyans.
"You idiot! That's not how you give a ring!" Blonde Launch already had her gun aimed at Goku. "You're supposed to kneel down!"
"Eh?" Goku looked even more lost, but he didn't care. He bent both knees and knelt on the floor without a second thought.
