Chapter 34 - Vindicore

Bastion saw the figure jumping from one building to the next and almost instantly it became clear that this was a trained figure that was vastly beyond the servitor-assassin.

Looking around him, Bastion picked up a small shard of glass that had fallen with him and almost instantly, his body spun as he flung the shard with such great strength, the shard vanished mid-flight.

Traveling at speeds far beyond normal, soon Bastion watched as the assassin was somehow flung backward as though hit by some force. His timing and accuracy had been perfect such that he knew for a fact that the assassin now had a severed spine.

Gathering his strength, Bastion suddenly took a leap as his body carved an arc through the air. By passing over five buildings in a single leap, he used the pipes and ledges of the buildings wherever he could to create more footing, allowing him to jump even further.

Barely a minute later, Bastion was standing over the assassin. The figure looked human. Before he could even confirm, Bastion felt a slight ting in his eyes as the suit disappeared to reveal the figure underneath and very soon, all Bastion saw was organs and bones.

"You were not lobotomized so tell me, who sent you?" Bastion asked as the man did his best to crawl away.

As for the sudden change in his vision, Bastion didn't exactly care much about it; it served a purpose, so he let it be. As for why he could see in X-ray vision, his body had stabilized but it had yet to stop evolving.

"No wonder this world is still as messy as it is," Bastion said exasperated.

The more he stayed in this world, the more tired he was of everything. He was actively doing his best to reform the world and yet these people were doing their best to kill him.

Worst part, he could tell whose plan this was. Looking towards the cathedral not that far away, he could see several Arbites and Medicae providing help. Among them he could see the Inquisitor Dresk staring at him.

"Does everyone in this world just obey orders and not question them?" Bastion asked before taking a deep breath to calm himself more.

Squatting, he pulled off the face mask to see a heavily augmented face and a bleeding neck. The assassin was male and at the moment, he would forever be unable to walk... or move anything below his neck.

"Tell me sniper, what is your name?" Bastion asked as he squatted before the man.

"..."

The man kept staring at him with an expression of pure hate on his face. It was very clear that he had no plans of talking. Sighing, Bastion immediately gripped the man's head as memories immediately began to pour into his mind.

Within seconds, he sorted them all out. The man before him had no name... at least not one that he remembered, only the codename Everkale and he was of the Vindicare Temple, a league of assassins formed by the Emperor a long time ago.

Among everything in his mind, the only useful thing was the knowledge of his training. He didn't know who hired him nor did he care for the reason for assassination, but considering the very prestige of the Vindicare Temple then he was sure that it was either the Nobles or the Inquisitor.

"You're too useful to kill," Bastion said as he immediately began to rewrite the man's mind.

With a silent command through the neural link, several servitors were immediately dispatched to pick up the body. When the first servitor arrived, Bastion finally stood up and turned back to the cathedral.

Without hesitation, Bastion jumped down, landing on the ground with a great thud as a quake was felt all through that pushed several of the Arbites gathered around the building to the ground.

As the dust finally cleared, Bastion could be seen standing with his eyes glowing golden. Barely affected by the fall, his massive frame towering over the people began moving towards the cathedral.

"Your grace," an Arbiter said before they all suddenly got on their knees.

From Dresk, the Priests that were in the cathedral to the Medicae who were attending to Selene. Seeing this, Bastion only sighed. He wasn't a true saint but it looked like he would never be able to escape the allegations.
